Apart from having a positive impact on the regional and state economy, coal mining is inseparable from the negative impact that has become the public spotlight. A mining company’s responsibility is not over even though it has finished its operational period. The reclamation and post-mining are the closing stages of the company’s activities. The Istana Kelulut program is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity in the form of environment-based community development and is integrated with the post-mining plan. This study aimed to determine community development stages through Kelulut beekeeping in post-mining communities in Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach and in-depth interview with PT Adaro Indonesia’s CSR managers and beneficiary communities and a study of company documentation as secondary data. The results revealed that community development was carried out through assistance to the community, including training activities to improve beekeeping techniques to make the harvest process more effective. Innovations were also made through the manufacture of automatic honey-suction hoses and artificial nest housings. Throughout 2019, 20 people have joined as Kelulut beekeepers after seeing the Istana Kelulut succeed in developing its colony and increasing beekeepers’ income.

The aim of this study is to investigate the role of Islamic Corporate Social Responsibility in moderating the effect of zakat on Islamic commercial banks’ financial performance. Out of 13 Islamic commercial bank listed by Otoritas Jasa Keuangan from 2012 to 2017, there were only five banks reporting Statement of Zakat Fund Sources and Disbursements. Hence, the final samples of this study consist of 30 observation data. Secondary data collected from 30 annual reports were gathered through documentation. This study utilizes moderated regression analysis to test three research hypotheses. The results shows several findings. Firstly, the amount of corporate zakat being reported in the Statement of Zakat Fund Sources and Disbursements has positive impact on Islamic banks’ financial performance. Secondly, Islamic CSR as measured by Islamic reporting index developed by Belal et al. (2015) has negative impact on Islamic Banks’ financial performance. Thirdly, the role of Islamic CSR in moderating the effect of zakat on financial performance was confirmed.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become an integral part of firms’ strategies in their effort to increase their positive impact on society. This study investigates the impact of a CSR initiative, known as “The LAB Project”, implemented by the TITAN– Sharrcem Company, on the rural community of Hani I Elezit in Kosovo. The LAB project aims to support the establishment and operation of agricultural and food-related start-ups and, most importantly, to ensure their sustainability. The sample of the study consists of 174 area residents. This research examines local residents’ perceptions about a) the TITAN-Sharrcem operations in the area, b) the LAB project’s main contribution to the local community,  c) the project’s overall performance, d)  the profitability of the start-ups created by the project, and e)  the project’s effect on the community’s quality of life. Overall, the results reveal that the project has set the foundation for the community’s sustainable development. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first research on the effect of such initiatives in the region. We investigate the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate governance on stock price crash risk in manufacturing sector of India and Pakistan. We collect data of nine years from 2010 to 2018 from DataStream of 353 manufacturing firms. We apply the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) to the analysis of the data. We find that when firms actively engage in CSR activities, they lead to reduced stock price crash risk. We further find that managerial ownership has a significant positive impact on stock price crash risk, while board size and CEO duality show a significant and negative impact on stock price crash risk.

Companies, either state-owned and private which operates in the field and/or related to natural resources must implement Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), such as by PT Indonesia Power (PT. IP) UBP-Tambaklorok which is located nearby Tanjung Mas Harbor, Tambaklorok Village, North Semarang District. Semarang City. The CSR implementation should benefit for both sides, the company for its image and the local community for the implemented programs. Therefore it is important to analyse perception of the local community as well as their opinions about the company's CSR activities in their village, in this case is the people of Kemijen village which is located adjacent to the PT. IP’s area. This research is descriptive qualitative, done in 2019, describing the phenomenon of CSR implementation by PT. IP, and the perception of the local community of Kemijen village towards the CSR activities implemented by PT. IP. The informants were taken using purposive sampling technique, covering both formal and informal leaders, the local people, as well as community development officer of PT. IP. Primary data was gathered using in-depth interview technique and observation. Secondary data consist of documents. Primary and secondary data was then coded and analysed interactively. PT. IP has formulated and implemented the Company’s strategies into CSR Roadmap 2015-2019, which is the grand strategy and a milestone of CSR implementation to integrate CSR strategy into the Company’s strategy, in the sectors of education, health, economy, and infrastructure. According to the perception of the Kemijen villagers, there have been both benefit and insufficiency of the PT. IP’s CSR implementation. They expect more programs to be implemented, in order to allowing them more opportunities for poverty alleviation.

<p><em>This research is intended to analyze Partnership and Community Development Program (PKBL) of PT INKA (Persero) at UMKM as one of the program. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and to find out the relationship between the partners of PT INKA (Persero) Partnership and Community Development Program (PKBL). The research was conducted on 50 partners of PT INKA (Persero) located in Madiun Regency. Data Technique uses primary and secondary data. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistic with Likert scale, Importance of Performance Analysis (IPA), and Cross Tabulation Test (Crosstab). The result showed that PT INKA (Persero) Partnership and Community Development Effectiveness Program achieved the program objectives effectively. Based on the result of Cross Tabulation (Crosstab) there is a significant correlation between characteristic of assisted life with coaching program.</em><em></em></p><p><strong><em><br /></em></strong><em></em><em></em></p>

In this paper, we investigate the effects of stakeholder protection and public trust on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities of listed enterprises on the Chinese Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Board. We find that the degree of stakeholder protection has a significantly positive impact on SME CSR activities. The public trust is not associated with SME CSR disclosure significantly; it has a significantly negative impact on the SME implementation levels of CSR activities. Furthermore, the moderating effect of public trust on the relationship between the degree of stakeholder protection and SME CSR activities is not supported by our empirical study.

Business and conglomerates have never been an isolated entity as the entrepreneurs or the businessmen have always maintained a consistency in the internal and external management and also properly follow-up the movement that use to take place in the external business environment such as consumers, communities, stakeholders, shareholders, and by-laws. Gradually, with the passage of time in last three decades the changes that took place in the Indian cultural norms of corporations had brought forward the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) referring to bring about overall positive impact of corporations on the communities, societies, and environments in which they operate. The term CSR became popular in the 1960s and narrowly construed. It had remained a term used indiscriminately by many to cover legal and moral responsibility but in the present scenario, it has been used in a broader way. CSR promotes a vision of business accountability to a wide range of stakeholders, besides shareholders and investors. Key areas of concern are environmental protection and the wellbeing of employees, the community, civil society in general, customers, employees, investors, suppliers, and activist organizations both now and in the future. This article is exclusively based on secondary data and presents an in-depth conceptual framework of the CSR, major provisions and guidelines encrypted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. Further, the fundamental principle, core elements and its role in nation development are discussed briefl y for the better understanding of the reader.

Purpose This study examines the association between Chief Executive Officer (CEO) power and the level of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure, as well as the moderating role of stakeholder influence on this association. Design/methodology/approach Using a sample of 986 Bangladeshi firm-year observations, this study uses a content analysis technique to develop a 24-item CSR disclosure index. The ordinary least squares regression method is used to estimate the research models, controlling for firm-specific factors that potentially affect the levels of CSR disclosure. Findings The study findings indicate that CEO power is negatively associated with the level of CSR disclosure, and that the negative effects of CEO power on the level of CSR disclosure are attenuated by stakeholder influence. CEO power is documented as reducing the positive impact of CSR disclosure on a firm’s financial performance, with this negative impact attenuated if stakeholders have greater influence on the firm. Practical implications This study suggests that CEO power and stakeholder influence are important factors in determining firms’ incentives to disclose CSR information. Both CEO power and stakeholder influence need to be considered in the CSR – firm performance nexus, given the mixed findings documented in the literature. Originality/value This study makes a significant contribution to the literature on CSR practices by documenting that firms with a powerful CEO have lower levels of CSR disclosure, and that stakeholder influence affects CSR disclosure in the emerging economy context.

The study examines the relationship between diversity of firm’s board composition and corporate social responsibility reporting of Bangladeshi listed commercial banking firms in the period from 2011 to 2015. Corporate social responsibility disclosure index indicates lower level of disclosure issues with extensive narrative discussion. The study finds significant positive relationship of board activity, board expertise with corporate social responsibility disclosure. It is also found that board ownership and CEO/ chairman duality are negatively associated with corporate social responsibility disclosure having negative impact on bank’s corporate social performance and reporting. The study did not find any evidence related with independent board members to have significant positive impact on CSR disclosure of banking firms. The findings of the study are expected to have important implications for wider stakeholder society and will create further research scope in future.

This paper investigates how real estate investment trusts’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) (REITs) varies by two intrinsic firm factors: real estate asset types and REITs’ financial aspirations. We develop a conceptual model to demonstrate the theoretical role of these intrinsic firm factors in moderating CSR. Using a database containing the Morgan Stanley Capital International CSR rating index, we test REITs from 19 countries for variations of their CSR performance across each of the three pillars of CSR: environment, social, and governance (ES&G) by real estate asset types from 2009 to 2016. The results show that REITs focusing on less market-transparent real assets relying heavily on intensive human-based services and physical capital in property management like hotels and hospitals exhibit a poorer performance in environmental responsibility, social responsibility, and overall CSR score. We found no significant difference between the REITs in their governance responsibility with respect to the real estate asset types. We found that moderation by financial aspiration in establishing their CSR strategies varies by the types of real estate asset that REITs focus on, with the maximum positive impact on REITS with hotel holdings and negative impact on REITs with office and retail assets.
