The posteromedial cortex (PMC) is known to be a core node of the default mode network. Given its anatomical location and blood supply pattern, the effects of targeted disruption of this part of the brain are largely unknown. Here, we report a rare case of a patient (S19_137) with confirmed seizures originating within the PMC. Intracranial recordings confirmed the onset of seizures in the right dorsal posterior cingulate cortex, adjacent to the marginal sulcus, likely corresponding to Brodmann area 31. Upon the onset of seizures, the patient reported a reproducible sense of self-dissociation—a condition he described as a distorted awareness of the position of his body in space and feeling as if he had temporarily become an outside observer to his own thoughts, his “me” having become a separate entity that was listening to different parts of his brain speak to each other. Importantly, 50-Hz electrical stimulation of the seizure zone and a homotopical region within the contralateral PMC induced a subjectively similar state, reproducibly. We supplement our clinical findings with the definition of the patient’s network anatomy at sites of interest using cortico-cortical–evoked potentials, experimental and resting-state electrophysiological connectivity, and individual-level functional imaging. This rare case of patient S19_137 highlights the potential causal importance of the PMC for integrating self-referential information and provides clues for future mechanistic studies of self-dissociation in neuropsychiatric populations.

This study explored direct experiences of women’s relationships with the Earth and how this impacted their lives. Using the transpersonal research methodology of intuitive inquiry, 10 White Western women aged between 36 and 64 were interviewed. Thematic content analysis was used to identify the emerging themes within the data and create descriptive summaries. The research found that connecting to the Earth may help us (a) process difficult emotions and experience more positive ones; (b) stay present and deal with life more effectively; (c) feel in control of changes in our lives; (d) realise that we need to give back to the Earth for what it provides for us; (e) expand our sense of self to include a sense of a divine cycle of life, and; (f) feel part of the Earth as we develop a clearer sense of who we are on an individual level. A definition of Earth connection is proposed: Earth connection is a subjective sense of feeling part of the Earth. It helps an individual to gain a deeper sense of who they are within a divine cycle of life. It also promotes a sense of a reciprocal relationship between an individual and the Earth.

The hemangiopericytoma (HPC) of the kidney is extremely rare perivascular neoplasm. There are no specific radiological or clinical findings that can aid in preoperative diagnosis. In the world literature, only 41 cases of renal HPC have been previously documented. We report on a 56-year old woman with renal HPC of the right kidney who had lung metastasis at the time of diagnosis. The right radical nephrectomy was performed and the combination chemotherapy was given, postoperatively. After 3 cycles of chemotherapy, disease was stable, but progression was seen at the end of 6 courses of chemotherapy. The patient died due to progression of disease ten months later after the diagnosis. We suggested that for patients present with renal mass, renal HPC as well as the other renal tumors should be considered in the differential diagnosis.

Such a phenomenon as the migration of scientists can be considered from different points of view. In particular, some scholars share the view that this is a negative aspect in the development of the scientific and educational space of a particular country, while others believe that with the right migration policy, it can greatly strengthen the competitiveness of the country that scientists leave. The aim of the article is to highlight the latest trends in the policies of various EU and US countries, as well as to develop practical recommendations for the implementation of some aspects of Ukraine's migration policy for such a category as scientists. The main research method is a comparative analysis, which allows to clearly identify the advantages and disadvantages of each migration policy of each country. The migration of scientists can be used by a single university to establish strong communication with those universities that accept immigrant scientists, which will only be useful for building their future relationships. The article also identifies the advantages and disadvantages of such a phenomenon as the migration of scientists. The definition of virtual migration is given and its main forms and directions are determined. The article considers and compares the migration of scientists and the migration of engineers on the example of Great Britain. It is proved that foreign scientists often occupy positions in those fields where domestic specialists for various reasons do not want to work. The experience of Lithuania has proved the possibility of successful cooperation, which goes beyond the individual level to the level of cooperation with foreign universities. And this was facilitated by the tendency to digitalize various processes. It has been determined that scientists belong to one of the most traveling professions, and many scientists cross borders in search of opportunities. Their state of affairs is explained primarily by an adventurous spirit and a thirst for constant search, which is developed in scientists. Moreover, it is simply the nature of the work - usually, depending on the topic, only a dozen scientists can deeply understand a narrow study - not to mention to help advance it, so scientists are forced to migrate around the world. Upon completion, a number of measures are proposed to increase the potential for cooperation between scientists of Ukrainian origin around the world.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to report unusual, rarest and interesting case of a patient with nodular hyperplasia of Bartholin's gland with dysplastic changes. The case of a 30-year old female with right-sided Bartholin’s gland hyperplasia with dysplastic changes, which was confirmed histopathologically, is presented in this paper. The patient reported increased swelling of the right major labium when she became sexually aroused with intermittent dyspareunia during intercourse. Surgical excision of the swelling was done under general anaesthesia. Healing of the surgical scar was complete and she reported no any discomfort or dyspareunia during sexual intercourse. Bartholin’s gland swellings with firm consistency require complete excision due to possibility of being neoplastic rather than just inflammation, cyst or obstructed gland particularly in postmenopausal women. Diagnosis of nodular hyperplasia of Bartholin’s gland with areas of dysplastic changes in the present case is of great interest and requires further investigation.

The relevance of the interpretation of constitutional and legal guarantees of the right to vote is mediated by isolated scientific research in this area, as well as the lack of a universal approach to legal guarantees. In this regard, the purpose of the article is to argue and disclose the author’s definitive aspect of the claimed guarantees. In the work, the author named and characterized the normative (based exclusively on legal means) with the perspective of a branch of legal and technical; regulatory and institutional (combines the formal aspect with the activities of authorized entities) and associated legal (including a set of legal and other aspects) approaches to the definition of legal guarantees. Based on the second approach, as well as combining the guarantees of the right to vote directly guarantees of the subjective right itself and guarantees of its implementation, the author offers a definition of constitutional and legal guarantees of the right to vote.

Drawing on ethnography conducted in Israel since the late 1990s, this book considers how power is produced, reproduced, negotiated, and subverted in the contemporary Israeli culinary sphere. The book explores issues such as the definition of Israeli cuisine (a defining element of which is large portions of “satisfying” dishes made from mediocre ingredients), the ownership of hummus, Israel's Independence Day barbecues, the popularity of Italian food in Israel, the privatization of communal Kibbutz dining rooms, and food at a military prison for Palestinian detainees to show how cooking and eating create ambivalence concerning questions of strength and weakness and how power and victimization are mixed into a sense of self-justification that maintains internal cohesion among Israeli Jews. The book concludes by presenting two culinary trends in contemporary Israel that emerge at the intersection of food and power.

The article is devoted to issues of ensuring transparency and ac- countability of authorities in the conditions of participatory democracy (democ- racy of participation). It is argued that the public should be guaranteed not only the right for access to information but also the prerequisites for expanding its par- ticipation in state governance. These prerequisites include: the adoption of clearly measurable macroeconomic and social goals and the provision of control of the processes of their compliance with the government by citizens of the country; ex- tension of the circle of subjects of legislative initiative due to realization of such rights by citizens and their groups; legislative definition of the forms of citizens’ participation in making publicly significant decisions, design of relevant orders and procedures, in particular participation in local referendum; outlining methods and procedures for taking into account social thought when making socially im- portant decisions. The need to disclose information about resources that are used by authorities to realize the goals is proved as well as key performance indicators that can be monitored by every citizen; the efforts made by governments of coun- tries to achieve these goals. It was noted that transparency in the conditions of representative democracy in its worst forms in a society where ignorance of the thought of society and its individual members is ignored does not in fact fulfill its main task — to establish an effective dialogue between the authorities and so- ciety. There is a distortion of the essence of transparency: instead of being heard, society is being asked to be informed — and passively accept the facts presented as due. In fact, transparency and accountability in this case are not instruments for the achievement of democracy in public administration, but by the form of a tacit agreement between the subjects of power and people, where the latter passes the participation of an “informed observer”.
