Summary In his Herm’œlogium; or an Essay at the Rationality of Speaking of 1659 Basset Jones intended to supplement William Lily’s (c. 1468–1522) popular 16th-century grammar, which had received the endorsement of Edward VI. Written in English and Latin, Lily’s grammar through its many editions not only set the standard for Latin grammars, but it also established the style for the first and subsequent grammars of English. Jones realized that Lily’s grammatical model, with its emphasis solely on the classification and arrangement of material according to the classic paradigms for conjugation and declension, ignored the philosophy of grammar which was necessary for an understanding of the relationship of language and thought.

Vanitas Obsolescentum is a comment on the obsolescence of contemporary commodity. It draws from prominent theories of obsolescence and appropriates 17th century Dutch Vanitas paintings. This paper begins by addressing themes relevant to the conceptual development of the series, including theories of obsolescence as presented by Packard, Papanek and Slade, the relationship of Dutch Golden Age society to contemporary North American society, Dutch Vanitas paintings, and appropriation of the Vanitas genre in contemporary art history and within this series. It provides a rationale for the use of holography as medium to express concepts of transience and hyperreality. This paper concludes with a discussion of the specifics of Vanitas Obsolescentum, including the symbolism and meaning of each piece within the series.

ABSTRACTThe 21st century should bet on a transmission of the History differently. Without losing the academic rigor we can serve this discipline for use in explanations of any event or crisis that occurs in today's world. There are new techniques that allow us to explain the sense of history in every moment of our life. Taking as an example the 16th century and the Empire of Carlos V, we can make an exercise in analysis that easily leads to keys to current passing through the birth of the modern State, its territorial configuration, or the relationship of Spain with America. The didactic eagerness of everything that we have must be fundamental. We must avoid distortions due to the knowledge of yesterday. History will help us to bring coherence to the message and delve into the creation of a rigorous, tolerant, plural and respectful society.RESUMENEl siglo XXI debe apostar por una transmisión de la Historia de manera diferente.

Violins were invented in the 16th century in Italy, many methods of manufacturing and adjusting have been developed. Certain violins are highly valued from a cultural perspective as well as for their high sound quality. However, Violin repairers have carried on techniques that have largely been transmitted verbally from generation to generation, so there is a little detailed documentation. Much research has been done to elucidate manufacturing technology and materials used for these valuable violins. This study aims to support the passing down of certain techniques from an acoustic engineering perspective. Many elements defining the timbre, but this study will be focusing on the sound post and the bridge. By clarifying the relationship of adjusting the sound post to the Spatial Radiation Characteristic, we will estimate the ideal position of the sound post and attempt to present the results in the form of a graph.

Even if the local and the global have been studied from many perspectives, a notable fact in current globalization rhetoric emerges when considering the World-Africa tandem : it is the access to a more global sphere of critical voices that speak out against the (neo)colonialist conditions in which Africa's relations have historically been conceived and perpetuated. The present contribution is part of the debate on the consequences that globalization, since the 16th century, has had on the relationship of (post)colonial subjects with their original space. We will see that the telluric experience, which is understood as primary contact with the earth, is presented in African novels as a very important part of the identity process.
