Studies in the Tallinn University of Technology are based on a modular system, where geodetic surveying comprises a self-contained study module in the curricula of all civil engineering specialities. Due to geodetic surveying being taught to all first year students of civil engineering, it serves as a touchstone to test a student's suitability for an engineering specialism. Future civil engineers are taught basic geodetic measurements and how to use optical theodolite, levelling instrument and laser level. The paper gives an overview of geodetic surveying lectures, laboratory classes and field survey camp. Teaching and assessment are based on learning outcomes. Students who have passed the exam are allowed to participate in the summer field survey camp, the aim of which is consolidating the knowledge acquired throughout the year and practising teamwork.

Introduction. The prediction of learning outcomes plays an important role in professional training of the future civil engineers. The relevance of the article lies in the lack of a unified approach to predicting the formation of basic professional competencies among students of civil engineering universities. The purpose of the article is to describe the creation of a technology for predicting the formation of professional competencies of future civil engineers using modern computer technologies. Materials and Methods. The study was carried out on the basis of the results of the analysis of publications on the creation of social and pedagogical forecasts by computer methods, followed by the construction of “competence-based profiles”. To study the problem, empirical information from the results of passed examinations, tests performed by students of the academic programme 03/08/01 “Construction engineering” (102 students) was analysed. The data were presented in a 3D OLAP cube format. Results. As a result of the research, the author has created a step-by-step technology for quantitative forecasting of the formation of general professional, professional and universal competencies of future civil engineers, in accordance with the educational standard. A competence-based profile of a student enrolled with the construction engineering university has been built. Donbass National Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture served as experimental facility. The analytical tool “Competence calculator of a future civil engineer” was developed. The optimal time for forecast development was revealed: making a forecast at the early stages of training while maintaining suf ficient accuracy. Discussion and Conclusion. The results of the study open a new theoretical direction in the study of the influence of various factors on the results of pedagogical forecasting: identifying the dynamics of achieving each of the educational results in each of the academic semesters; study of factors and indicators of the forecast background.

Engineering Mathematics which is one of the core subjects in civil engineering education is designed to equip civil engineering students with a strong mathematical knowledge for solving engineering problems in other courses such as fluid mechanics, soil mechanics, structural mechanics, transportation and highway engineering. The purposes of the present study are to report the findings from the assessment of students' learning outcomes in a mathematics test and to explore the issues related to the misconception and difficulties in the manipulation of the solutions. A total of 136 third year degree students were given a set of four questions related to probability and statistics in a test during the first semester of the academic year 2015-16. The answers provided by students were analysed with respect to their being correct, partial, wrong and void which yielded a general description of students' performance. It was found that only 35% of students could successfully use the integration by parts for evaluating the double integrals in probability related questions. 33% of students had a misconception about the complement of an event when they worked out the probability. In addition, only 38% of students could correctly use the logarithmic function and determine the maximum likelihood estimator from random samples. It was concluded that 60% of students faced with various levels of difficulty in the manipulation of the solutions.

The suitability between expectations and reality of the quality of education students get during college affects students' perceptions of education quality in a study program. Information on the achievement of the implementation of main courses subjects and the teaching and learning process can be used as a basis for evaluating and mapping the gaps between the curriculum and the teaching and learning process with the required competencies. This study aims to determine students' perceptions of core subjects' learning outcomes in the D3 KS and D3 KG Pograms, Department of Civil Engineering PNJ. The method used in this research is the survey method, with purposive random sampling and descriptive analysis approach. Meanwhile, the performance and gap analysis use the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) method. The results denote that the students' perceptions of the learning outcomes of the main courses of the D3 KG and D3 KS Programs, Department of Civil Engineering PNJ showed promising results. The IPA analysis shows that six of the seven D3 KG Study Program main courses are in Quadrant II, and six of the eight D3 KS Program main courses are also in Quadrant II.

The objective of this paper is to document the experience of developing and implementing a second-year course in an engineering professional spine that was developed in a first-tier research university and relies on project-based core courses. The main objective of this spine is to develop the students’ cognitive and employability skills that will allow them to stand out from the crowd of other engineering graduates.The spine was developed and delivered for the first time in the academic year 2010-2011 for first-year general engineering students. In the year 2011-2012, those students joined different programs, and accordingly the second-year course was tailored to align with the different programs’ learning outcomes. This paper discusses the development and implementation of the course in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department.

Method of calculating the index of crisis of gratification has been developed on the basis of the complete survey of 995 students of medical university and 804 students of engineering university, determination of clinical and social parameters and factors related to the process of education in the specialized university. It included: a scale for the assessment of the degree of intellectual intensity, academic performance, stress situations related to the peculiarities of education. Reliable differences in values between groups of healthy students, students with preclinical and clinical forms of mental disorders are revealed as a result of calculation of the index of gratification. The authors conclude that satisfaction with the results of education has a significant impact on the mental health of university students.
