This study focuses on divorces in the Principality of Samos, which existed from 1834 to 1912. The process of divorce is described according to the laws of the rincipality, and divorces are examined among those published in the Newspaper of the Government of the Principality of Samos from the last decade of the Principality from 1902 to 1911. Issues linked to divorce are investigated, like the differences between husbands and wives regarding the initiation and reasons for requesting a divorce. These differences are integrated in the specific social context of the Principality, and the qualitative characteristics are determined in regard to the gender ratio of women and men that is articulated by the invocation of divorce. The aim is to determine the boundaries of social identities of gender with focus on the prevailing perceptions of the social roles of men and women. Gender is used as a social and cultural construction. It is argued that the social gender identity is formed through a process of “performativity”, that is, through adaptation to the dominant social ideals.

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Introduction Smoking is a public health problem. Doctors have an important role in the fight against smoking, in particular through the minimum advice they can give. Purpose The aim of this work was to study the prevalence of the application of minimal advice by medical residents and to identify factors that may influence its practice. Methods We conducted a descriptive and analytical study with a prospective data collection that included 302 residents practicing in Tunisia and who agreed to respond to an online questionnaire submitted between February and March 2020. Results Residents mean age was of 28 ± 2 years and the gender ratio was 0.65. Sixty-four percent of residents were non-smokers. During their practice, 94% of residents systematically identified the patient"s smoking status and 61.9% were unfamiliar with the concept of minimal advice. The rate of application of the minimum advice by residents was 57.6%. In multivariate analysis, the factors influencing the application of minimum counseling were: gender (OR =0.321, p = 0.0001), knowledge of minimum counseling (OR = 2.808, p = 0.002) and having attended the minimum advice given by a senior (OR = 2.328, p = 0.0001). Conclusion The rate of application of the minimum advice remains low. Improving one"s theoretical and practical teaching during medical studies is essential.

Relevance. Before starting the therapeutic treatment of various periodontal diseases, it should be clearly understood that a high-quality treatment is possible only with complex therapy, excluding local irritating adverse factors in the oral cavity, elimination of inflammatory processes in the periodontal tissues, as well as violations of its function. One of the main tasks of the treatment of periodontal diseases is the preservation of the dentition with a single functional system.Purpose – to assess the use of the drug Kollapan in tooth extraction and treatment of periodontitis.Materials and methods. The clinical observation group consisted of 40 patients aged 19 to 65 years. The gender ratio was 3 : 2 (60% men, 40% women). The largest percentage of patients (65%) came to the clinic with complex tooth extraction. The remaining 35% – with generalized periodontitis of moderate and mild severity.Results. Clinical observation showed that in the first group of patients, whose therapy included the use of Collapan, after a complex tooth extraction, physiological healing of the hole was observed, the disappearance of inflammation within 24–36 hours after the surgery

BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer (GC) is a predominately male disease. Usually for every female that suffers from this condition there are two males and occurred an increase in the number of females in last decades. Brazil is poor in data about this issue. AIM: To verify if in Brazil it happened: a) a change in the gender ratio and on the average age of the patients; b) an increase in the number of patients with 70 years of age or more suffering from this disease; c) changes in the gender ratio and in the average age in the several gastric locations during the period of study. METHODS: The medical history of patients diagnosed with primary gastric adenocarcinoma, between 1971 and 1998 were obtained at Hospital das Clínicas of the University of São Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil. Exclusion criteria were: patients suffering from a non epithelial gastric malignancy; adenocarcinoma from the intestinal metaplasia in the distal esophagus invading the proximal stomach and patients submitted to a gastric resection, due to a benign or malignant tumor during the last five years prior to the surgical procedure analyzed in this study. The patients were divided into 10 years age groups and also divided in three groups, according to their ages and time intervals. Interrelationships between gender and age, and with tumor´s location on gastric wall were analyzed. RESULTS: From 1971 to 1998, 1578 patients with GC were hospitalized. Among them, 1021 were treated with gastric resection, corresponding to 64.7% of all patients. There was an increase in the proportion of patients older than 70 years, and decrease between 41 and 70 years. There was no statistical significant difference among the average ages and the different locations. There were significant differences for the locations favoring proximal third and stump, both more prevalent in males. CONCLUSIONS: a) Occurred modifications in the ratio between genders: greater number of women and an increase in the number of male patients in the age group between 41 and 70 years; b) it was proved the greater number of occurrences in patients over 70 years of age; c) there was a greater increase in the male predominance in the tumors located in the stomach´s proximal third.
