Lysine maintenance requirement and efficiency of its utilisation in young pigs as estimated by comparative slaughter technique

SUMMARY1. In a comparative slaughter experiment, 12 female pigs (six at 80 kg and six at 100 kg) were allocated at first oestrus to each of five treatments: Treatment 1 initial slaughter, or Treatments 2, 3 and 4 mated and given 19·5, 25·8 or 32·1 MJ ME/day for the last 100 days of pregnancy, or Treatment 5 not mated (virgin) and given 25·8 MJ ME/day over a similar period. Pigs on Treatments 2, 3, 4 and 5 were given the same amount of protein and were killed about 123 days after first oestrus. Piglets were removed at birth.2. Total protein deposition (carcass+viscera+piglets) was increased from a total (±SE) of 5·50 to 8·47 (±0·43) kg as ME intake was increased from 19·5 to 32·1 MJ ME/day. About 75% of the increase in protein deposition was in the carcass component. The average response to ME was 2·2 ± 0·58 g total protein deposition per MJ increment in ME.3. The once-mated pigs deposited similar amounts of total protein to the virgin pigs but significantly less (P<0·05) carcass protein, when this was corrected to the same amount of carcass fat deposition.4. Increasing energy intake from 19·5 to 32·1 MJ ME/day increased total fat deposition from 2·8 to 16·0 kg. The average response to ME was 13·5 ± 1·53 g fat deposited per MJ increment in ME.5. There were no significant differences between the once-mated and virgin pigs in their calculated maintenance requirement, nor in the efficiency with which ME surplus to requirement for maintenance was utilized for energy retention. The average maintenance requirement for all pigs was 530 (95% limits 303·882) kJ/kg0·85. day. The average efficiency of utilization of ME for energy retention was 58·5 ± 6·2%.6. There was no evidence of any pregnancy anabolism other than that involving the conceptus, the needs of the dam specific to pregnancy and preparation for lactation.

(1) The maintenance requirement of Light Sussex cockerels has been found by a feeding trial and comparative slaughter method. The maintenance requirement found was 22.1 calories per sq. m. of surface per hour. The net energy of the ration fed (Sussex ground oats: whole dried milk = 13 : 3) was 1.8 calories per gm.(2) A new method of determining the surface area of birds is described.(3) The value of K in the equation area = K has been found by this method to be 9.3.

The modern state of social-economic processes development demands increasing the level of food safety of the state, especially providing population by the high quality foods of domestic production, specifically by pork. One of criteria for estimating pigs' meatness is determining the fat thickness in different points of a trunk. The informative content of measuring in different parts of a trunk is different and it needs detailed study. The fat thickness is the most common as trait for pigs' meatness in the practice of pig breeding because it has high correlation with meat yield in carcasses. The aim of our research was the comparative study of fat deposition regularities in different parts of a trunk of Large White and Mirgorod pigs in different age periods. For conducting researches 24 pigs of both breeds with average live weight about 40 kg and at age not more 4 months were selected. The fat thickness was measured at live animals using ultrasonic device Draminski in such points: on withers, the level of the 6-7th thoracic vertebra, the level of the 1st-2nd loins vertebra and sacrum. Measuring the fat thickness was carried out at the age of 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 months. During researches it was carried out the statistical processing of obtained material. Reliability of obtained indexes of productivity was determined. Regularities of formatting fat thickness and fat deposition rate depending on the age were studied. For the results of researches it has been studied and compared economically valuable traits of the most spread domestic pigs of Large White and Mirgorod breeds. By comparative study of growth and development of young pigs of experimental and control groups it has been found that animals of Large White breed differed by lesser fat deposits in all points of measuring. Thus, at 6-months’ age they had lesser thickness of fat in all parts of a trunk. More expressed tendency was at withers and the level of the 6-7th thoracic vertebra, at that in the first case the difference between groups was reliable (p < 0.01). The fat deposition rate in young pigs of both breeds was not the same in different points of measuring along a trunk. Above mentioned tendencies were intensified with the age. Purebred animals of intrabreed type LW-1 at 7-months’ age had reliable less thickness of fat in comparison with the control group: on withers (p < 0.01), at the level of the 6-7th thoracic vertebra, the level of the 1st-2nd loins vertebra (p < 0.05) and on sacrum (p < 0.01). In future, according to economic and scientific expediency, the animals of Mirgorod breed were excluded from the experiment. Concerning Large White breed, the researches were finished when animals were at 8 months’ age. The process of fat deposition in Large White pigs was less intensive in comparison to Mirgorod breed. The highest relative rate of fat thickness increase in both breeds was observed at the level of the 1st-2nd loins vertebra. By statistical processing of the obtained materials it has been found that the difference of average arithmetical indexes (as absolute and relative) between the experimental and control groups during growth and development had distinct tendency to increasing in all points of measuring. The reliability of the difference between the averages in groups with the age of animals increased. A higher reliability of data was obtained at measuring of the front parts of a trunk of pigs at the level of the 6th-7th thoracic vertebra and on withers. The carried out researches at all points of measuring give the reason to confirm that the fat deposits of Large White pigs are less comparing to Mirgorod breed. Conclusions. 1. Carcasses of animals of intrabreed type ULW-1 are comparatively more technologically suitable and economically beneficial for agricultural proceeding industry. 2. Animals of intrabreed type ULW-1 at 7-months’ age had reliable less thickness of fat in comparison with the control group: on withers, at the level of the 6-7th thoracic vertebra, the level of the 1st-2nd loins vertebra and on sacrum. 3. The process of fat deposition in Large White pigs was less intensive in comparison to Mirgorod breed.

Mycotoxins have been formed in feed are secondary metabolites of fungi and are quite stable substances that have teratogenic, mutagenic and carcinogenic effects. An effective way to combat mycotoxins in feed is the use of feed additives that adsorb toxins, prevent their absorption in the gastrointestinal tract of the animal and are excreted from the body. The infl uence of coconut enterosorbent Shelltic Es on fattening and meat qualities of young pigs has been studied. It has been found in the process of fattening that the highest feed digestibility was in pigs of the experimental group, in the diet of which enterosorbent has been added. The results of studies of the chemical composition and technological properties of pork have been provided. The positive eff ect of enterosorbent on precocity, absolute average daily gain of live weight and reduction of feed expenditures per 1 kg of gain has been revealed. In pigs from the experimental group the average thickness of the fat was higher and the area of the “muscle eye” was lower compared with animals of the control group, which indicates that higher rates of carcass yield have been obtained due to faster accumulation of fat tissue. The weight of internal organs of pigs indicates the intensity of metabolic processes in the body. In experimental animals the weight of the lungs was 0,1 kg lower, and the liver and heart were higher by 0,13 and 0,01 kg, respectively. Enterosorbent had no effect on the content of vitamins in the liver of pigs of the compared groups. The content of impurities of organochlorine toxicants and toxic elements in the meat and liver of animals of the experimental group was lower than that of control analogues. Therefore, the use of enterosorbent Shelltic Es promotes more active excretion of them from the body.

The mobile house for two-phase litter rearing piglets was developed in the conditions of pasture their housing, the feature of which is that its side walls and roof are made in the form of two similar in shape and length of arched panels. In the back wall of the inner shield is a litter box, a self-feeder for piglets, a feed unit for a sow and a wicket, and in the front wall of the outer shield are doors with a wicket. Along with this, all walls and the roof of the litter box are made of transparent plastic, and the wall located near the self-feeding trough is also made perforated. In addition, the lower edge of the side wall of the inner arch-shaped shield has slides in which the lower edge of the side wall of the outer arc-shaped shield is inserted. A house with transformable fences has been developed to rear the young pigs. The structural feature of the house is the presence on the outside of the walls of the bobbins with a metal mesh edged at the bottom with a flexible sleeve. In order to ensure the conditions of gentle etching of the vegetation cover and to prevent damage to the turf of the pasture, the house can be completed with another type of hedge consisting of two hinged sections with doors on each side of the fence. In addition, the horizontal wings are rigidly attached to the hedge and connected by a metal mesh around the perimeter, the size of the cells of which ensures that the grass is eaten but prevents the turf of the pasture from being undermined. The developed devices for camp-pasture and feeding of maternal stock, suckling pigs, weaning pigs, repair and fattening pigs are well suited for year-round closed non-waste organic pork production using cultural and natural agricultural land.
