Abstract This work investigates the processes of dissipation of the charge and energy of a pulsed electron beam in gas compositions (nitrogen, carbon dioxide and oxygen) in the presence of ammonium sulphate and nitrate. A pulsed electron beam generated by the TEA-500 accelerator (Tomsk, Russia) with an electron energy of up to 410 keV, a beam current of up to 5 kA (I0 ), and a half-amplitude voltage pulse duration of 60 ns was injected into a 46 cm long drift chamber filled with a gas mixture. The pulsed electron beam current (IFC ) passing through the drift chamber was registered using a sectioned calorimeter with beam charge monitor function, and the efficiency of the current passage of the beam was determined as the ratio qFC/q0 , where q0 is the beam charge measured at the place of its injection into the chamber drift. The pressure in the drift chamber varied (375, 560 and 760 Torr, humidity value 15% ± 5% and 50% ± 5%). The geometric dimensions of the plasma-chemical reactor for initiating plasma-chemical reactions of flue gas cleaning were determined.

AbstractThis paper presents the results of comprehensive studies of the efficiency of a pulsed electron beam transmission through a mixture of gases: nitrogen (83%), carbon dioxide (14%), and oxygen (2.6%) in the presence of ash and water vapor. The studied concentrations correspond to the concentrations of nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide in flue gas. The pressure and concentration of water vapor and ash in the drift chamber varied (375, 560, and 750 Torr; humidity 15 ± 5% and 50 ± 15%). The charge dissipation of a pulsed electron beam in the gas mixture in the presence of ash and water vapor was investigated, as well as the effect of the concentration of water vapor and ash on the geometric profile of the pulsed electron beam.

The paper presents the results of the experimental investigation of the pulsed electron beam propagation propagated in a drift tube filled with oxygen. The pressure was 50, 300, and 760 Torr in the drift tube. The experiments were carried out using a TEA-500 pulsed electron accelerator (450 kV accelerating voltage; 10 kA electron beam current; 80±1 ns pulse duration to the base; up to 200 J pulse energy; and 5 cm diameter beam). The electron beam was propagated in the drift tube (40 cm long), 14 cm in diameter composed of two sections equipped with two reverse current shunts. The experiments were carried out which fixed the absorbed dose registered on the walls of the drift chamber.

In this paper the new method for determination of luminescent centers concentration are discussed. While the possibility of electron traps determination and definition of its activation energy are suggested. The cathodoluminescent (CL) method was used. The determination of luminescent centers concentration in silicon oxide is based on the measurements of dependences of CL intensity on electron beam current. The presence and energy of activation of electron traps were studied by measurement of rise time and decay of luminescent band during the stationary irradiation of silica by electron beam.

The paper presents the influence of electron - beam (EB) remelting effect on the surface layer electrochemical parameters obtained from potentiodynamic anodic polarization studies and impedance spectroscopy measurements for a set of Inconel 617 electron beam remelted obtained for different process parameters. The correlation between EBW process parameters and characteristic of surface oxide layer properties and resistance to the acidic environment were discussed. The electrochemical studies were supported by microstructural analysis of the remelted zone (RZ), heat affected zone (HAZ), native metal and observed precipitates formed under rapid solidification process. Both electrochemical technics applied to evaluate corrosion properties of remelted Inconel 617 evidenced a strong influence of the electron beam current on the corrosion resistance.

Nonlinear phenomena originating in volume free electron laser (VFEL) are investigated by methods of mathematical modelling using computer code VOLC. It was demonstrated the possibility of excitation of quasiperiodic oscillations not far from threshold values of electron beam current density and VFEL resonator length. It was investigated sensibility of numerical solution to initial conditions for different VFEL regimes of operation. Parametric maps with respect to electron beam current and detuning from synchronism condition present complicated root to chaos with windows of periodicity in VFEL. Investigation of chaotic lasing dynamics in VFEL is important in the light of experimental development of VFEL in Research Institute for Nuclear Problems.
