Introduction. The use of fireproof tent fabric at children’s tent camps remains a relevant problem. It may be resolved by developing a special flammability assessment methodology and criteria applicable to materials, used as the structural framework of tents. This solution will determine the choice of fabric.Aims and purposes. Materials, currently used to make tents, include natural or synthetic fabric and various polymers, that may be a fire hazard. In case of fire, safe evacuation of people may be unfeasible, although it is particularly important for children’s seasonal tent camps designated for sports and leisure.Domestic regulatory documents, that are currently in force, contain solely general technical requirements applicable to travel tents or ensuring fire safety in the territory of children’s tent camps, but there are neither fire safety requirements applicable to tent materials, nor any methods of their assessment. Meanwhile, there were cases of fire at children’s tent camps. The purpose of this work is to establish fire safety requirements applicable to tent materials used at children’s tent camps, to develop their testing criteria and methodology. The main objectives to be accomplished in order to achieve the pre-set purpose include the analysis of effective regulatory requirements and methods used to determine the flammability of tent materials, the establishment of parameters and criteria designated for their assessment and the development of a standard testing methodology. Results and discussion. Experimental studies were carried out to assess a set of flammability-related parameters of several types of fabric and polymers used to make outer/inner tents and ground sheets. It has been determined that currently used materials are fire-hazardous; therefore, it is advisable to limit the production of tents from combustible and flammable materials whose combustion may be triggered by low-calorie ignition sources, including those that can melt or release toxic combustion products.Currently used standard methods were applied to develop modified methodologies and classification criteria needed to assess the flammability of tent materials for children’s summer camps; experimental studies were also carried out.Conclusions. A draft national standard has been developed; it implies the establishment of the flammability assessment methodology and criteria and restricts the use of tent materials, that are extremely hazardous in terms of the toxicity of their combustion products.

Background. The term “orthopedic shoes” becomes an advertisement through which manufacturers promote their products to the market. Parents face the problem of selecting shoes that ensures normal function and development of the child’s foot. In this regard, the situation must be understood. The aim of the study is to identify the conformity of the footwear design and the parameters of special orthopedic parts to the requirements of the current regulatory and technical documentation for footwear for specific deformation as well as to obtain information regarding consumer information on the indications and contraindications of the designation of children’s shoes, set out in the leaflet regarding the use of shoes with special orthopedic parts. Materials and methods. This study was based on the results of a study of 23 pairs of 155-size children’s shoes. The shoes were selected by random sampling from the assortment that is in retail sale. The research was performed by the staff of the Federal State Institution Federal Scientific Center for the Rehabilitation of the disabled named after G.A. Albrecht of the Ministry of Labor of Russia, which are the developers of the national standard (R 544072011 “Orthopedic footwear. General technical requirements”). Results and discussion. The research data showed that virtually all footwear examined was manufactured in violation of the current regulatory and technical documentation. Shoes that go to free sale for selection under the guise of “orthopedic” shoes have a very attractive appearance (seen by the design and bright colors). However, such footwear does not provide the performance of medical purposes because special orthopedic parts have parameters that do not meet the requirements of national standards. Thus, uncontrolled implementation of orthopedic footwear for selection is unacceptable. In this regard, children without pathology of the foot and musculoskeletal system should wear standard footwear without special details. Children in need of orthopedic footwear should wear shoes strictly according to the doctor’s prescription, considering the individual anatomical and functional features of the child’s foot.

Russian national standards for rails establish technical requirements, acceptance rules and quality control methods. These are very important to ensure the quality and service durability of rails. Requirements for rail production variation within a period from 1960 to the present considered, peculiarities of their accounting in the standards shown. It was demonstrated that stricter requirements to rails resulted in the development of new steel compositions, the creation and introduction of new technological processes in steel production, rail rolling and heat treatment, as well as new methods of production quality control. Basic technical requirements for rails produced according to the national standard of theRussian Federationand to the European Norm presented. It was pointed out that the current national standard GOST R 51685‒2013 was elaborated accounting the requirements of the latest foreign standard EN 3674-1:2011+A1:2017. However, the former is not equivalent to the latter because it pertains to Russian rail types and contains requirements corresponding to the Russian climatic and geographical conditions, as well as the track facilities system used by OJSC RZD. It was shown that rails, meeting the current standard requirements, in terms of operational resistivity exceed the resistivity level of best foreign analogues. At present, a new standard is being elaborated accounting the need of increasing the service life of railway rails under conditions of high load, low climatic temperatures, higher-speed combined train operation and high-speed running, and high working capacity. The list of key issues presented, that are mirrored in the new standard draft, which accounts for the goal of mastering new rail categories and the increased requirements of OJSC RZD to rails quality.

The urgency of the necessity of experimental substantiation of quality indicators of the fire-fighting layflat hoses for fire – rescue equipment and methods of their estimation is noted, taking into account the modern approaches set out in European standards. The results of experimental researches of fire-fighting layflat hoses for fire – rescue equipment by quality indicators are presented: resistance of the hoses to the action of working hydraulic pressure, resistance of the hoses to the action of the proof hydraulic pressure, burst pressure and abrasion resistance. Delivery fire hoses are one of the main types of fire fighting equipment. Delivery fire hoses in the course of operation undergo mechanical wear, are exposed to the sun's rays, microbiological putrefactive processes, accidental ingress of chemically active substances, the influence of low and high temperatures, irreversible processes of material aging. All this causes the appearance of defects of different nature. Analysis of the causes of failure of delivery fire hoses showed that of all failures more than 60% are fistulas, as well as breaks and disruptions of heads - 30% and 10% respectively. The analysis of the presence and nature of defects during the regular testing of workers and decommissioned fire hoses showed that the defects are divided into: explicit (gusts and fistulas) that violate the tightness of the hoses; visible cuts, abrasions, missing and chemical corrosion from contamination of fuel and lubricants that do not violate the tightness of the hoses; hidden (unnoticed cuts, breaks in the threads of the power frame, etc.) that do not violate the tightness of the hoses. Studies have shown that only 75% of defects are detected during hydraulic testing, and undetected defects result in hoses failing in a fire. To date, requirements for assessing the quality of delivery fire hoses for fire - fighting equipment in Ukraine are set out in the standard DSTU 3810-98. At the same time, these requirements are to some extent obsolete and do not meet the current regulations of the leading countries in the world on this issue. In view of the above, it is urgent to experimentally justify the quality indicators of the fire-fighting layflat hoses for fire – rescue equipment and methods of their evaluation, taking into account the modern approaches set out in European standards. The results of the pilot studies will be used to justify the provisions of the draft national standard of Ukraine that will be developed and to improve the existing test base. The urgency of the issue of substantiation of technical requirements to fire-fighting layflat delivery hoses for fire-rescue equipment is given. Fire hoses are a significant component of fire fighting equipment. According to DSTU 2273, a fire hose is a flexible conduit fitted at the ends with connecting heads intended for the transport of extinguishing agents. Among the technical means intended for the transportation of extinguishing agents to the fire cell, the main role is certainly played by delivery fire hoses. According to DSTU 2273 delivery fire hoses (in EU countries they are classified as "layflat") are intended for transportation of extinguishing agents under excess pressure. At present, there are a number of standards in Ukraine and in the leading countries of the world that set the technical requirements for delivery fire hoses, in particular those used in conjunction with fire rescue equipment, namely DSTU 3810-98, DIN 14811, EN 14540: 2004 + A1: 2007, etc. In addition, a draft state standard is being developed in the Republic of Belarus. Considering the process of gradual integration of Ukraine into the European Union and the fact that the requirements of the current national standard DSTU 3810-98 do not meet the modern European requirements for layflat delivery hoses for fire-fighting equipment, a pressing issue is the justification such types of hoses. In order to assist in solving this problem, the Ukrainian Research Institute of Civil Protection is currently conducting a research work "Justification of fire hose test methods", within which a national standard will be developed, which regulates general technical requirements and test methods for the fire-fighting layflat hoses for fire – rescue vehicles. The basic technical requirements for the specified hoses, which meet the modern requirements of the EU and which, after appropriate experimental justification, can be considered in the draft national standard, which regulates the general technical requirements and test methods for the fire-fighting layflat hoses for fire – rescue vehicles to be developed. This publication lists six tables that provide basic specifications for delivery fire hoses. Keywords: abrasion, burst pressure, layflat delivery fire hoses, fire – rescue vehicles, proof pressure, technical requirements, specifications, working pressure.

Road accidents are one of the most common and unavoidable problems in our society which costs our precious lives. Helmets of poor quality only give the lack of security, so helmets with more improvised design become the priority for two-wheelers. Our paper aims to design and prototype safety helmets for motorcycles with innovative design, which facilitates the user to wear it more comfortably. In addition to that, we analyze the improved design and optimize it. As safety is the primary criterion for the customers, we aim to produce the helmets by additive manufacturing with a customized design enabling ventilation, lightweight and increased stiffness. Additive manufacturing helps to fabricate complex designs with a combination of different materials. We will incorporate a mechanism that does not allow the two-wheeler to unlock unless the rider has a helmet. The outer casing would be durable and protect the user against impact. We have also planned to integrate the technology, which gives SOS signals to the nearby hospitals when the vehicle undergoes an accident. This is done by incorporating accelerometers in the helmet, so once the value reaches a certain limit, the emergency message is sent. By conventional manufacturing technologies, making customized helmet is very difficult. But, on the other hand, additive manufacturing facilitates fabricating complex design, which can have integrated sensors for safety purposes. Impact test analysis and airflow analysis will be performed on the helmet to validate the design. Therefore, in this paper, we are going to design and analyze the helmet with improved safety.
