This study proposes a new cement mortar incorporating damping aggregate (DA) and investigates the mechanical properties and damping property of the cement mortar. Four types of DA were prepared, lightweight aggregate presaturated water and three types of polymer emulsion. Further, the effects of polypropylene fiber and rubber powder on the performance of the cement mortar were studied. The experimental results showed that the damping ratio of specimens containing 70% DA was approximately three times higher than that of the reference mortar, with a slight decrease in the mechanical properties. Adding fiber was more effective than rubber powder in improving the damping ratio of the cement mortar, and the optimal dosage of fiber was 0.5%.

Bearing pads are used in precast concrete connections to avoid concentrated stresses in the contact area between the precast elements. In the present research, the bearing pads are Portland cement mortar with styrene-butadiene latex (SB), lightweight aggregate (expanded vermiculite-term) and short fibers (polypropylene, glass and PVA), in order to obtain a material with low modulus of elasticity and high tenacity, compared with normal Portland cement mortar. The objective of this paper is to analyze the influence of surface roughness on the pads and test other types of polypropylene fibers. Tests were carried out to characterize the composite and test on bearing pads. Characterization tests show compressive strength of 41MPa and modulus of elasticity of 12.8GPa. The bearing pads tests present 30% reduction of stiffness in relation to a reference mortar. The bearing pads with roughness on both sides present a reduction up to 30% in stiffness and an increase in accumulated deformation of more than 120%, regarding bearing pads with both sides smooth.

This article presents a new design of waterproof ground for rest rooms in basements by using new materials and new combination. First use cement mortar to paste the waterproof and heat resistance foam glass furring bricks which have low density and high strength on the ground. Then use silicon sealant to fill the gap between the bricks. Roll brush the multifunctional transparent elastic waterproof coating pure acrylic JQ - 168 on the bricks as surface. The combination of the two formed a sealed waterproof ground in indoor restrooms with certain strength and toughness. So this kind of ground surface can have stable and reliable waterproof function when in face of the situation that groundwater upwelling through fissures in concrete created by resistless damage like earthquake and so on.

The main aim of this paper is to evaluate the influence of the recycled expanded polystyrene as lightweight aggregate on the mechanical properties of lightweight cement mortar when subjected to high temperatures.Various tests have been carried out on different mixtures of mortar. The water/cement mix proportion has always been the same and only the nature of the aggregates has changed, with a partial replacement of the conventional aggregate by recycled ground EPS (EPS-G) with values ranging from 10% to 30%, achieving significant results in relation to exposure to high temperatures. In this research, the samples have been subjected to different temperatures of exposure, in order to analyze the influence of the lightweight recycled arid dosage in the mechanical properties of mortars. The results of this study show the ability of mechanical response at high temperatures with light mortars EPS-G. This study shows how this new mix can be used in different building types, optimizing construction materials and reducing mortars density while transforming a residual product into an active product.

In this study, we studied on the durability of restorative cement mortar for deteriorated concrete at complex deteriorated conditions as variation of temperature and of humidities. We made a comparison between restorative materials with insulation function and restorative materials without insulation function in items of compressive and bending strength and permeability of water, durability for carbonation, salt damage, diffusion coefficient of salt at complex deterioration conditions like change of temperature, change of humidity, For insulation, we used close-pore type Alumino-Silicate lightweight aggregate and substituted 12 wt% and 15 wt% out of original restorative cement mortar without insulation function. As a result, it was found that original restorative cement mortar without insulation function fail to meet Korean Standard on polymer modified cement mortar for maintenance in concrete structure, but restorative cement mortar with insulation function is in contentment Korean Standard to meet excellent than restorative materials without insulation function for durability at complex deteriorated conditions.

In Europe there are nearly 500 incinerators. There are over 2000 of them in the world. It is estimated that the combustion of 1 ton (Mg) of waste produces about 250–300 kg of slag. Due to the large amounts of this waste, the construction industry’s demand for raw materials and the reduction of CO2 emissions, research was undertaken to use slags as a cement component. The problem was complex because slags generated in the thermal treatment of municipal waste have different chemical compositions and physical properties and contain variable amounts of impurities. The choice of chemical analyses of slag was dictated by the potential influence on the properties of cement mortars. The total moisture of raw slag (4–10%), the bulk density (600–1267 kg/m3) and the specific surface after grinding (over 3000 cm2/g) were determined. The pH (11.9) and the content of sulphates (3.5% by weight), chlorides (0.3% by weight) and selected heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, Pb) were measured in the aqueous extract. The obtained results of the washing test were compared with the values resulting from the currently binding legal regulations. In the next step, cement mortars with 30% addition of tested slags were designed and made. The article presents the results of compressive strength tests, which were compared with the results of samples without the addition of slag. The addition of slag to the cement mortar decreased S_MSWI 1 by 64% and S_MSWI 2 by 31%. The high loss of strength and the swelling of the S_MSWI 1 test led to the activation of the NaOH slag. In the endurance test, an increase from 16 to 32 MPa was recorded. Preliminary studies show that the addition of slag in the cement mortar allows obtaining the strength at the level of 30–32 MPa.
