Self-Directed Education—Unschooling and Democratic Schooling

Education, broadly defined, is cultural transmission. It is the process or set of processes by which each new generation of human beings acquires and builds upon the skills, knowledge, beliefs, values, and lore of the culture into which they are born. Through all but the most recent speck of human history, education was always the responsibility of those being educated. Children come into the world biologically prepared to educate themselves through observing the culture around them and incorporating what they see into their play. Research in hunter-gatherer cultures shows that children in those cultures became educated through their own self-directed exploration and play. In modern cultures, self-directed education is pursued by children in families that adopt the homeschooling approach commonly called “unschooling” and by children enrolled in democratic schools, where they are in charge of their own education. Follow-up studies of “graduates” of unschooling and democratic schooling reveal that this approach to education can be highly effective, in today’s word, if children are provided with an adequate environment for self-education—an environment in which they can interact freely with others across a broad range of ages, can experience first-hand what is most valued in the culture, and can play with, and thereby experiment with, the primary tools of the culture.

A social language could reflect culture which is correspondent and its manners show in the contents of words and vocabulary. The same to the animal words what contains rich and profound cultural customs of various nationalities and reflects the philosophical and cultural mentality of all ethnic groups profoundly.In the course of the development of human history, animals keep in touch with human beings. Many animals yet have been being human beings’ pets and friends. Many animals have formed a certain symbol in the minds of people, and are embodied in the language. Animal words are also forming a specific meaning in these processes. There are abundant words in English and Chinese with large number of animals as a metaphor. The cultural diversity of all nations around the world causes people to have different emotional attitudes towards animals in the different cultures, thus, the meaning of animal vocabulary is different in different cultures. It’s helpful to improve the communicative competence of English for the understanding of the cultural connotations of English and Chinese. To promote English learning and intercultural communication is of great practical significance.

Background: At the end of 2019, the world faced a phenomenon that plunged all human beings into extreme fear and anxiety. A new type of coronavirus began to spread among people around the world, and this was the beginning of one of the greatest pandemics and its problems in the world. Objectives: The present study aimed to study the effect of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) on reducing post-traumatic stress and depression among Covid-19 patients. The statistical population was all English language students at the University of Tehran who had recovered from Covid-19. A total of three students (with a mean age of 22±2 years old) were selected from those who had recovered from Covid-19 using convenience sampling. Results: The data were analyzed using visual inspection, Reliable Change Index (RCI), and percentage change formula. The results of the study indicated that the mean improvement of post-traumatic stress variable for the three patients in the post-treatment and follow-up was 42.39% and 41.54%, respectively. Additionally, this value for the depression variable was 60.78 and 60.22% in the post-treatment and the follow-up. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, EFT was effective on post-traumatic stress and depression in students infected with Covid-19. Therefore, it is recommended to use this treatment to reduce post-traumatic stress and depression in patients with Covid-19.

Abstract Migration flows are part of human history. The process of globalization, if on the one hand it seems to favour the movement of human beings, on the other hand it is creating the conditions for the recovery of migratory flows, especially within some areas of the world and, in part, directed towards advanced development countries. This creates problems of acceptance on the part of the host with respect to the customs and habits of the guest. Resistance to reception, used for political ends by populist parties, has deep roots that have to do with psychological and social factors: defence mechanisms, stereotypes and prejudices. The article stresses the importance of training in overcoming these obstacles to building a society that is first multicultural and then intercultural.

Ta’wīl is one of the most important topics of the glorious Qur’ān. All Islamic schools of thought, such as theologians, jurists, mystics and philosophers have written extensively about its necessity, possibility and impossibility. In the Ismāʿīlī madhhab, a branch of Shīʿah Imāmi Islam, ta’wīl is a necessity because of the very nature of the Divine Word. The greater part of it is allegorical and symbolic, which without authoritative ta’wīl leads the seekers of wisdom to confusion and perplexity. Thus, Almighty God has provided tanzīl together with its ta’wīl. In the former spiritual realities are expressed in physical allegories, whereas in the latter, their veils are gradually removed to facilitate obedient seekers of wisdom to reach their realities. Many Qur’ānic verses indicate the abstruse nature of tanzīl and the source of ta’wīl, such as (3:7; 18:65-82). Since ta’wīl is a perennial need of human beings, God by breathing the Holy Spirit (ruḥu’l-qudus, 15:28-30) into Ḥaẓrat Adam and by teaching him all the names (2:30) prepared him to undertake tanzīl and appointed his asās to help him in his task by undertaking its ta’wīl. This system of guidance or Divine sunnat has continued throughout human history (3:33-34). In the holy Prophet’s time Ḥaẓrat ʿAlī was responsible for the Qur’ān’s ta’wīl as he was for its tanzīl. Further, since ta’wīl comes gradually (7:52-53), in order to continue it, the holy Prophet left his progeny after him together with the Book of Allāh. In the Ismāʿīlī madhhab, the line of the holy Prophet’s progeny continues and they, as the rāsikhūn fi’l-ʿilm and ulu’l-amr, have continued to do the Qur’ān’s ta’wīl to guide the jamāʿat in the ever-changing exigencies of the world to enable them to practise Islam irrespective of place or time. Results of 606 equilibrium radionuclide ventriculographies (ERNV) performed in 348 non-selected patients receiving Adriamycin (ADM) therapy were stored in a data base system. The aim of the study was to assess the influence of a potential cardiotoxic therapy on left ventricular pump function. Increasing ADM doses yielded a significant (p <0.05) decrease of the resting ejection fraction (R-gEF), the peak ejection rate and the peak filling rate. Enddiastolic and endsystolic volumes increased significantly. Stroke volume, heart rate and time to peak filling rate did not change significantly. 368 follow-up studies were performed in 128 patients: 65/128 patients presented a decrease of R-gEF, but only in 45 of these patients R-gEF values fell into the pathologic range. In 44 of these follow-ups, R-gEF remained unchanged. In 19 patients, a R-gEF increase was observed. At the beginning of ADM therapy 14% of the patients had subnormal R-gEF values. With increasing ADM doses pathologic findings increased to 86% in patients with ADM doses higher than 500 mg/m2.

Education is an important factor in human life. According to Ki Hajar Dewantara, education is a civilizing process that a business gives high values ??to the new generation in a society that is not only maintenance but also with a view to promote and develop the culture of the nobility toward human life. Education is a human investment that can be used now and in the future. One other important factor in supporting human life in addition to education, which is technology. In this globalization era, technology has touched every joint of human life. The combination of these two factors will be a new innovation in the world of education. The innovation has been implemented by Raharja College, namely the use of the method iLearning (Integrated Learning) in the learning process. Where such learning has been online based. ILearning method consists of TPI (Ten Pillars of IT iLearning). Rinfo is one of the ten pillars, where it became an official email used by the whole community’s in Raharja College to communicate with each other. Rinfo is Gmail, which is adapted from the Google platform with typical raharja.info as its domain. This Rinfo is a medium of communication, as well as a tool to support the learning process in Raharja College. Because in addition to integrated with TPi, this Rinfo was connected also support with other learning tools, such as Docs, Drive, Sites, and other supporting tools.

This paper shows how solidarity is one of the founding principles in Thomas More's Utopia (1516). In the fictional republic of Utopia described in Book II, solidarity has a political and a moral function. The principle is at the center of the communal organization of Utopian society, exemplified in a number of practices such as the sharing of farm work, the management of surplus crops, or the democratic elections of the governor and the priests. Not only does solidarity benefit the individual Utopian, but it is a prerequisite to ensure the prosperity of the island of Utopia and its moral preeminence over its neighboring countries. However, a limit to this principle is drawn when the republic of Utopia faces specific social difficulties, and also deals with the rest of the world. In order for the principle of solidarity to function perfectly, it is necessary to apply it exclusively within the island or the republic would be at risk. War is not out of the question then, and compassion does not apply to all human beings. This conception of solidarity, summed up as “Utopia first!,” could be dubbed a Machiavellian strategy, devised to ensure the durability of the republic. We will show how some of the recommendations of Realpolitik made by Machiavelli in The Prince (1532) correspond to the Utopian policy enforced to protect their commonwealth.

Each religious sect has its own characteristics, whether fundamental, radical, or religious. One of them is Insan Al-Kamil Congregation, which is in Cijati, South Cikareo Village, Wado District, Sumedang Regency. This congregation is Sufism with the concept of self-purification as the subject of its teachings. So, the purpose of this study is to reveal how the origin of Insan Al-Kamil Congregation, the concept of its purification, and the procedures of achieving its purification. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a normative theological approach as the blade of analysis. In addition, the data generated is the result of observation, interviews, and document studies. From the collected data, Jamaah Insan Al-Kamil adheres to the core teachings of Islam and is the tenth regeneration of Islam Teachings, which refers to the Prophet Muhammad SAW. According to this congregation, self-perfection becomes an obligation that must be achieved by human beings in order to remember Allah when life is done. The process of self-purification is done when human beings still live in the world by knowing His God. Therefore, the peak of self-purification is called Insan Kamil.
