Abstract: During the last few decades the problems of terminology have caught the attention of many researchers and scientists which can be explained by the growing importance of science in the lives of people. Medical terminology formation began centuries ago and keeps developing nowadays. The main objective of this paper is to discuss the terminological glossary of the cardiovascular system created based on the Nomina Anatomical 2001 as well as the comprehensive analysis of specialized terminology translation. Apart from the development of the Spanish-Russian bilingual glossary, I have also focused on the analysis of data collected and comments that can prevent errors and confusion among translators and recipients of the translated information. To achieve the objectives the method of analysis of parallel texts on the subject chosen has been used in Spanish and in Russian, as well as that of visualization, which allowed us to translate the terms from the list and guarantee the highest level of fidelity, objectivity, accuracy, equivalence and adequacy. The main hypothesis of this article is that, despite the Greek and Latin origin of most of the terms selected in Spanish and a large part of the terms in Russian, their literal translation represents the most serious and most common mistake that translators in healthcare setting make due to the peculiarities of the development of medical systems in Spanish and Russian languages, where each language terminology has followed its own guidelines of evolution.

An introduction by Boris de Schloezer gives the genesis of the final text in the section, the Preliminary Action, and explains its relation to Skryabin’s projected life-work, the Mystery. Section I: an effusion of Orthodox religious feeling from teenage years. Sections II-VII: Around 1900, an expression of rejection of God in the face of disillusion is followed by the text of the choral finale of the First Symphony, declaring faith in the power of art. An unfinished opera libretto, symbolic in narrative, expressing belief in Art’s power to seduce and persuade. Three notebooks develop a world view in which the world is the result of the self’s creative activity. The creation of art and of the universe are identical. There is a higher self, identical with divinity. Forgetfulness of individuality leads to freedom and universal consciousness. Section VIII: The literary poem written during the composition of the symphonic Poem of Ecstasy summarises the scenario developed in the notebooks. Life starts with the desire to create, delight in creative play meets opposition, the creative goal is achieved and disappointment sets in. The process is repeated until it is realized that the struggle is itself joyful and self-affirmation is achieved. Section IX: The text of the Preliminary Action is symbolic in structure. Primal Male and Female Principles emerge; the Female is identified with Death. Life arises from the union of energies. Struggle and bloodshed follow. The conclusion is an impulse towards unification, the synthesis of experience and dematerialisation. Both the complete first draft and the incomplete revision are included.

The state of the art management of germ cell tumors (GCT) in 2018 does not include novel agents targeting genomic alterations or exciting immunologic-based approaches but rather the avoidance of pitfalls in everyday practice. The relative rarity of GCT and high curability with correct management create the "perfect storm" for high-stakes errors to occur. This review focuses on several common pitfalls that should be avoided in staging and management of early-stage and advanced GCT in order to maximize patient outcomes. A particularly frequent misstep is to base treatment decisions on pre- rather than postorchiectomy tumor markers that, depending on marker directionality, can lead to either undertreatment with potentially inferior outcomes or overtreatment with excess toxicity. Another common mistake is the failure to consider the unique ability of GCT to differentiate and the distinct biology of teratoma (chemoresistance and lack of increased glucose uptake compared with normal tissue), which exerts a pervasive influence on nonseminoma management. This may lead to inappropriate use of PET scan to evaluate the postchemotherapy residual mass and, if negative, the conclusion that surgery is not needed whereas (FDG-negative) teratoma should be removed. It could also result in administration of additional unnecessary chemotherapy to patients with marker normalization but without robust radiographic response after 3 to 4 cycles of BEP. Finally, oncologists should strive to maintain standard chemotherapy doses, not substitute carboplatin for cisplatin, and refer to expert centers when expertise (e.g., RPLND) is not available locally in order to achieve optimal cure rates in advanced disease.

Abstract This project originated more than 15 years ago with the intent to produce a glossary of drug metabolism terms having definitions especially applicable for use by practicing medicinal chemists. A first-draft version underwent extensive beta-testing that, fortuitously, engaged international audiences in a wide range of disciplines involved in drug discovery and development. It became clear that the inclusion of information to enhance discussions among this mix of participants would be even more valuable. The present version retains a chemical structure theme while expanding tutorial comments that aim to bridge the various perspectives that may arise during interdisciplinary communications about a given term. This glossary is intended to be educational for early stage researchers, as well as useful for investigators at various levels who participate on today’s highly multidisciplinary, collaborative small molecule drug discovery teams.

Besides the common mistake of the annalists and historians in regard to this passage in Juvenal,Regem aliquem capies, aut de temone BritannoExcidet Arviragus—Juvenal IV. 126.By taking Arviragus for the proper name of a person, and not of an officer; the words of the satyrist are memorable in another respect, as serving to inform us, by the word temone, of a singular mode of fighting amongst the Britons; as if by leaving his carriage, and running upon the pole, the combatant from thence, or from the yoke, engaged the enemy, as long as he thought prudent and convenient, and then retreated back into the body of the vehicle.

The purpose of this study is to outline a common mistake made when the rate of oxidation of exogenous substrates during prolonged exercise is computed using 13C naturally labeled substrates. The equation proposed and commonly used in the computation does not take into account that exercise and/or exogenous substrate ingestion modifies the composition of the mixture of endogenous substrates oxidized and, consequently, the isotopic composition of CO2 arising from oxidation of endogenous substrates. The recovery of 13C and the amount of exogenous substrate oxidized are thus overestimated. An adequate procedure for the computation of exogenous substrate oxidation taking into account changes in isotopic composition of CO2 arising from oxidation of endogenous substrates is suggested. Results from a pilot experiment (4 subjects) using this procedure indicate that over 2 h of exercise (66% of maximal O2 uptake), with ingestion of 60 g of glucose, 39 +/- 4 g of glucose were oxidized. Estimates made without taking into account changes in isotopic composition of CO2 arising from oxidation of endogenous substrates range between 70 +/- 8 and 44 +/- 3 g depending on 1) the isotopic composition of exogenous glucose and 2) the isotopic composition of expired CO2 taken as reference (rest or exercise without glucose ingestion). These observations suggest that results from previous studies of exogenous substrate oxidation during exercise using 13C labeling should be used with caution.
