Abstract Background and Aims According to a recent data the 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) level is known to be reduced in advanced stages of CKD presumably due to i) catabolic activity of CYP24 in damaged tubules and ii) increase in renal excretion of 25OHD/Vitamin D binding protein complex. The association of the 25OHD level with different types of tubular damage in early stages (1-3) of CKD is not well investigated. Method The cross-sectional study included 100 patients (37 male; age 38 (30-50) yrs.) with biopsy proven primary glomerulopathy (membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (n=9); minimal change disease (n=10); membranous nephropathy (n=11); focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (n=20); IgA nephropathy (n=50)) and CKD stages 1-3 (median eGFR was 64 (33-90) ml/min/1.73 m2). Patients with AKI, infectious diseases, heart failure, respiratory failure and cancer pathology were excluded. The levels of proteinuria, intact parathyroid hormone (PTH) (Beckman Coulter), 25OHD (Abbott) were estimated in all patients. In all cases the following types of tubular damage were analyzed by light microscopy of kidney tissue (hematoxylin and eosin, periodic acid Schiff, Masson's trichrome, Congo red, and Jones' silver) and calculated semi-quantitatively (0 – <10%; 1 – 10-25%; 2 – 26-50% and 3 – >50% of tissue sample): granular dystrophy, hyaline-drop dystrophy, hydropic dystrophy, foamy degeneration and atrophy. The association between clinical and morphological variables was estimated by Spearman’s coefficient and multiple linear regression analysis. Results The patients had a lack or deficiency of 25OHD [Me (Q1-Q3): 13.1 (7.6-19.3) ng/ml]. There was no correlation between serum 25OHD and PTH (r = -0.03, p = 0.86). Proteinuria was negatively associated with level of 25OHD (r = -0.56, p = 0.012). The level of 25OHD was associated with granular (r = -0.39, p <0.05) and hyaline-drop (r = -0.39, p <0.05) tubular dystrophy. In multiple regression analysis the 25OHD level was the independent predictor of the severe hyaline-drop tubular dystrophy (β = -0.33 ± 0.11, p = 0.046) when adjusted for proteinuria (β=0.22±0.11, p=0.062). Conclusion In patients with CKD stages 1-3 decline in serum 25OHD is associated with the severity of tubular dystrophy. 25OHD level may be useful in laboratory diagnosis as a risk factor of tubular damage in early stages of CKD.

Abstract Background Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25 (OH) D) levels are associated with various pathologic ocular conditions. Few studies have assessed 25 (OH) D concentrations in non-serum specimens, and none to date has assessed 25 (OH) D concentrations in human aqueous humor and their association with ocular diseases. This study investigated the possible correlations between 25 (OH) D concentrations in aqueous humor and serum and whether vitamin D concentrations in aqueous humor were associated with cataract. Methods This study prospectively enrolled 136 patients, including 87 with senile cataract and 49 with diabetic cataract, who underwent cataract surgery from January to November 2017. 25 (OH) D was measured in aqueous humor and serum specimens collected from all patients, and their correlation was analyzed statistically. Clinical and laboratory data, including the results of ophthalmologic examinations, were compared in the two groups of cataract patients. Results No correlation was observed between 25 (OH) D concentrations in aqueous humor and serum (P = 0.381). 25 (OH) D concentrations in aqueous humor were significantly higher in patients with diabetic than senile cataract (P = 0.006). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the adjusted odds ratio for diabetic cataract for the highest compared with the lowest quartile of 25 (OH) D concentration in aqueous humor was 4.36 ng/ml (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.33–14.34 ng/ml; P = 0.015). Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that 25(OH) D concentration in aqueous humor was 2.68 ng/ml (95% CI: 0.34–5.01 ng/ml; P = 0.025) higher in patients with diabetic than senile cataract. Conclusions 25(OH) D concentrations in aqueous humor and serum did not correlate with each other. Higher 25(OH) D level in aqueous humor was associated with diabetic cataract. These findings suggest that studies of vitamin D levels in patients with ocular conditions should include measurements of vitamin D levels in aqueous humor.

Abstract Objectives We evaluated the prevalence of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-(OH)D) deficiency in our setting according to season, sex, and age. We also studied the association with parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. Methods The study population comprised all patients with requests for assessment of 25-(OH)D between January 1 and December 31, 2018, as registered in the database of the laboratory information system. Major exclusion criteria were pediatric samples (<18 years) and factors affecting 25-(OH)D and/or PTH levels (i.e., kidney injury, liver disease, PTH disorders). Results Among 33,601 patients (24,028 women, 9,573 men), the prevalence of 25-(OH)D deficiency was 48%. Prevalence was greater in males than in females (53% vs. 46%). By age group, deficiency was more prevalent in quartile 1 (Q1, 74–87 years) and less prevalent in quartile 2 (Q2, 60–73 years). By season, deficiency was greater in spring (nonsignificant differences with respect to winter) and lower in summer. The association between 25-(OH)D and PTH was assessed in 9,368 persons. Linear regression analysis showed a weak association (coefficient – 0.303). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed a significant association between 25-(OH)D deficiency and increased PTH (Odds ratio (OR), 1.63). Other risk factors for increased PTH include female sex (OR, 1.27), season (winter, OR 1.63, spring OR 1.16), and age (quartile 1, OR, 3). Conclusions The prevalence of 25-(OH)D deficiency differed according to sex, age, and season of the year. Furthermore, elevation of PTH is mainly influenced by low 25-(OH)D, female sex, season, and age.

This study examined fruit intake among 276 female Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) community college students. Knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors associated with fruit intake were determined. The attitudes which are potential predictors of daily fruit intake were also examined. Analysis showed that 33% ate fewer than the minimum recommended two daily servings of fruit. Students reported that fruit gave them energy, taste and cost were not barriers to consumption and that it would not be difficult to increase daily fruit consumption. A linear regression analysis revealed that beliefs that eating fruit leads to good health, having a habit of eating fruit, feeling energy, and weight loss accounted for 30% of the variance in fruit intake.

Some students perceive lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) positively, even though LGBT is a sexual deviation that is not appropriate with values and norms. There are several factors that influence an individual's perception of LGBT, including sexual identity. This study aims at looking at the contribution of sexual identity to student perceptions about LGBT. This research used a quantitative approach with a descriptive method and a simple linear regression analysis. The sample of this research was 385 taken from 15.752 undergraduate students of Universitas Negeri Padang which the sample was drawn by using the Slovin formula and continued with a Proportional Random Sampling technique. The instrument used was the Guttman model's sexual identity scale and the scale of students' perceptions of the LGBT Likert model. After analyzing the data with the descriptive technique and the simple linear regression analysis, the results showed that sexual identity significantly contributed to the students' perceptions of LGBT. This research has implications as a basis for counselors to help students avoid sexual identity mismatches and prevent the emergence of positive perceptions of LGBT.

The progress of the Islamic bank cannot be separated from the role of its customers who give trust to the bank to deposit their financial assets. It is a fact many groups of customers decide to be the customers of the Islamic bank because of their religiosity. The other influences factor of a customer’s decision is the quality of the product. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of product quality and level of customers’ religiosity towards customers’ decision whether to keep their funds in Syariah Mandiri Bank, Branch of Purwokerto, or not. The analytical tool used was multiple linear regression analysis, with a sample of 100 customers. The results indicate Y = 5,046 + 0,101X1 + 0,218X2. Based on F, it can be seen that both variables of product quality and religiosity simultanously affect the customers’ decision to keep theirfunds in BSM Branch of Purwokerto. Based on t test, it can be seen that independently, either variable of product quality or variables of religiosityinfluences the customers’ decision to keep their funds in BSM Branch of Purwokerto.
