A note on three-dimensional turbulence and evaporation in the lower atmosphere

In view of the practical significance in dynamical meteorology of the problem of evaporation from areas of finite lateral extent, it is a matter of fundamental importance to test as fully as possible the applicability of the hypothetical three-dimensional model of turbulence which was introduced by the author in 1947. The present paper describes in detail the manner in which the two-dimensional system developed by O. G. Sutton, K. L. Calder and E. L. Deacon for flow over aerodynamically smooth and rough surfaces may be extended to three-dimensional diffusion of vapour over an evaporating area. The agreement obtained between theory and experiment is good at points over the area. This agreement indicates that the assumed law, introduced by the author to give the variation of the coefficient of lateral diffusivity with height above the surface, may be used satisfactorily in evaporation problems as long as attention is confined to points not too far outside the boundaries of the area. The complicated mathematical relationship previously obtained for the vapour distribution vertically above the down-wind edge of a parabolic strip is reduced to a much simpler one. This serves to bring out explicitly the relationship between the effects of the two- and three-dimensional theoretical systems of turbulent transfer at points on the central axis of the area.

The Sebago pluton is a two-mica granite that intruded the metasedimentary rocks of the Central Maine Terrane around 292 Ma. In recent years, geologists have raised an increasing number of questions related to the overall thickness of the Sebago pluton and the position of its subsurface contact with the underlying metasedimentary rocks. Past studies have shown the Sebago pluton to be a thin, 1-2 km thick, subhorizontal sheet dipping 3° to the northeast. This study examines anomalies in the Earth's gravitational field related to the southern portion of the Sebago pluton, specifically to determine the thickness of the pluton and to locate the subsurface contact between the pluton and the underlying metasedimentary rocks. A three-dimensional model shows the thickest portions of the pluton (~1.8 km) to occur at the bottom of a bowl hape along the southwestern contact. Moreover, the model shows the pluton to thin toward the northern and eastern regions of the study area, where the average thickness is less than 0.5 km. The pluton appears to extend southward below the cover of the metasedimentary rocks along the southwestern contact. Thus, contrary to previous models, the Sebago pluton is not a northeasterly dipping sheet of uniform thickness, but rather an arched sheet with an irregular thickness extending beneath the metasedimentary rocks along both its northern and southern contacts. Based on this new geometry, either the relationship of the pluton to the surrounding metamorphic zones must be modified, or the possibility must be considered that the Sebago pluton is actually a composite batholith, composed of a younger (Permian) granite to the north and an older (Carboniferous) granite to the south.

Purpose – This paper aims to explore the power of one of the primary organizational stakeholders (shareholders) in the development of a corporate social performance (CSP) score. Few research works in the CSP empirical literature have studied the relationship between stakeholder power and CSP. Design/methodology/approach – Stakeholder theory is used as a theoretical framework to explain how shareholder voting power can influence the CSP level of French publicly listed companies. Stakeholder theory is tested through the operationalization of Ullmann’s (1985) three-dimensional model. Hypotheses related to shareholder voting power, strategic posture and financial performance are formulated through a literature review. A Data Envelopment Analysis approach was presented as a strong tool to measure CSP level. Multiple linear regressions were undertaken to test the hypotheses in a sample of 129 French companies between 2006 and 2007. Findings – The results indicate that companies with dispersed ownership and high proportion of institutional shareholders record a high score of CSP. Strategic posture measured by the implementation of environmental certification standard was positively and significantly related to CSP. Financial performance does not affect significantly the level of CSP. Originality/value – This paper is the first to empirically analyse the relationship between Ullmann’s three-dimensional model and CSP level in the French context. It offers to managers a better understanding of the power that certain stakeholders can use to acquire satisfaction.

Presenting the results of a qualitative research on the practice of prayer in pastoral care, this article discusses the questions which most interest ministers in the Protestant Church in the Netherlands. Dialogue − between the pastor and the other, and between the conversation partners and God − is a key issue. The article presents a three-dimensional model of this dialogue and elaborates a theology of pastoral prayer as spiritual fellowship. It then argues that in pastoral care, ministers, with their conversation partners, should pay more attention to the theological quality and the practical significance of dialogue on praying together.

The aim of this paper is to present an overview of studies for the representation/visualization of stakeholders with a proposal of our own method of visualization. The following text examines the existing representational methods and at the same time critically evaluates their advantages and disadvantages. In addition, our own proposed approach is also presented. The need to develop visualization methods for use in the concept of stakeholders has been accepted by researchers, and it is possible to encounter number of various alternatives which have been applied more or less successfully. The shared weakness of the majority of the models is that they only represent two main attributes simultaneously. When such models do contain three variables, then the third one is only a complementary aspect of the relationship compared to the two dominant attributes. Our proposed visualisation model based on three Mitchell´s (1997) stakeholder attributes should overcome the before mentioned disadvantage. Also, it takes into account the development over time in accordance with the dynamic of the relationships with the stakeholders. Therefore, the proposed three-dimensional model meets these needs and simultaneously removes the shortcomings of the other models, which are identified in our overview presented in this paper.

Abstract In this paper, we analyse the simplest possible three-dimensional model of endogenous growth to account for the relationship between financial intermediation and economic growth. In our setting, households maximize an interim utility function and firms maximize profit. Households can save money only through banks which offer firms investment loans. We show that under very general assumptions, investments realized by firms depend not only on savings accumulated by banks but also on financial intermediation technology ϕ(θ). Using mathematical methods of dynamical systems, we found stationary states of the system and study their stability.

ABSTRACT:Expanding our focus of study on the relationship between History and images, this article observes how images have been expressed political messages since the 2014 Brazilian presidential elections, when it is possible to observe the increase of dichotomous messages between "right” and “left". Given the importance of images for communication, this article analyzes this pictorial way of manifesting political discourse on social networks, specifically on Facebook, regarding the spread of such manifestations as a digital event disseminated on the Web. This study makes use of a Linguistics-oriented proposal of analysis (SOUZA JUNIOR, 2015a; 2015b; 2015c; 2015d). Accordingly, by examining two units of propagation (disseminated images), the article suggests the study of this type of message within the scope of the digital events identified as "Coxinha” and “Petralha". This investigation uses the Three-dimensional Model of Analysis (FAIRCLOUGH, 2003; SOUZA JUNIOR, 2013; 2015c) as a methodology in association with the Integrative Approach (SOUZA JUNIOR, 2015a; 2015b). Results of analysis revealed political-ideological dispute as a propagated practice through technological and discursive-pictorial resources.KEYWORDS: discourse; politics and digital propagation; memetic images and multimodality; teaching of History and memetic images.

There are many forms of bearing failure. One of the forms often arises in engineering is that the outer ring of heavy-duty bearing and the corresponding wheel hub generating relative motion. In this article, AutoCAD was used to establish the three-dimensional model of the hub and bearing. With the help of HyperWorks, meshing, setting properties and imposing constraints to three-dimensional model were done. Then the model was imported into Patran to set the exposure and parameters. Therefore, the complete finite element model of was established. And then it was solved using SOL600. Finally, the calculation results were analyzed, and we found out the reason for the failed bearing. Finally, by analyzing the calculation results, the reason for the failure of the bearing was found out. This paper is of certain practical significance and theoretical engineering guiding value.
