Purpose This paper aims to intend to provide managers with some ideas and reflections about how to promote a favorable environment for creativity and risk taking and how to instill a new management style. It proposes some thoughts on diminishing hierarchical levels, fostering cross-functional exchanges, diversifying team profiles and being a mindful manager. Design/methodology/approach This study is a general review. Findings This study is a general review. Originality/value This paper intends to promote emotional intelligence and mindfulness for purchasing managers, to foster opportunities and creativity within their teams.
