Cultural heritage item preservation, renovation and adaptation to the social needs of people, as well as their passing from generation to generation, is a problem relevant from economic, historical, archeological, religious, technological, research and other perspectives. They are typical strategic multi-criteria decision-making problems. The state institutions and the owners and managers of the heritage items invest in their preservation. In fact, every country has a great number of the registered heritage structures. To ensure their effective management and renovation, a lot of implementation projects and strategies should be developed and evaluated. This work requires large investments and time. The paper presents a hybrid model developed for ranking the heritage buildings intended for renovation according to their value. The model for problem solution based on integrated using two MCDM methods Analytic Hierarchy Process and EDAS. A set of the criteria for evaluating the projects, concerning the renovation of cultural heritage items defined.

Augmented and virtual reality proved to be valuable solutions to convey contents in a more appealing and interactive way. Given the improvement of mobile and smart devices in terms of both usability and computational power, contents can be easily conveyed with a realism level never reached in the past. Despite the tremendous number of researches related with the presentation of new fascinating applications of ancient goods and artifacts augmentation, few papers are focusing on the real effect these tools have on learning. Within the framework of SmartMarca project, this chapter focuses on assessing the potential of AR/VR applications specifically designed for cultural heritage. Tests have been conducted on classrooms of teenagers to whom different learning approaches served as an evaluation method about the effectiveness of using these technologies for the education process. The chapter argues on the necessity of developing new tools to enable users to become producers of contents of AR/VR experiences.

Tourism at China’s cultural heritage sites has developed rapidly in recent years. These sites have encountered many challenging problems such as poor tourist experience, over-commercialization, and loss of cultural authenticity. This study took the coordinative green development of tourist experience and commercialization of tourism (CGDTECT) at cultural heritage sites as the research objective, using two UNESCO World Heritage Sites—the Ancient City of Pingyao and West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou—and the Confucius Temple in the historic district of Nanjing as case studies. As such, we attempted to construct an indicator system for CGDTECT at cultural heritage sites. We adopted a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and importance-performance analysis (IPA) method to analyze the importance and performance of CGDTECT from a tourist’s perspective. Our findings show that tourists thought the coordinative green development and experience at the three cultural heritage sites were more important; they were basically satisfied with CGDTECT at the three case studies, so a continuous promotion strategy could be taken. The findings of this study can provide scientific theoretical guidance and practical reference for CGDTECT at cultural heritage sites, and contribute to the scientific protection of cultural heritage sites and the sustainable development of tourism.

Historic stone materials have to deal with weathering. The desire to preserve cultural heritage created a wide variety of products to reduce the rate of stone decay and to strengthen decayed stone, but it is difficult to evaluate their protective efficiencies. In this paper, a simple preparation method of an imitation of weathering stone is reported. The imitation was prepared with calcium carbonate particles mixed with water. Then, using imitations as the consolidated objects, the consolidation efficiency of a novel biomimetic protectant was investigated. The experimental results indicate that the evaluation method is simple and feasible, and the selected protectant does perform a favorable function of consolidant. The characterization method is helpful in numerically giving some direct indications of the consolidation effectiveness.

To protect industrial cultural heritage, the methods of overall protection and utilization of industrial heritage were put forward in the transformation and development of resource-based cities. Taking Chongqing, a famous old industrial city in China, as the research object, from the cultural heritage, history, architecture, urban planning and other disciplines, the construction of Chongqing industrial heritage protection theory and practice methods were explored to guide the protection and utilization of Chongqing industrial heritage. A progressive evaluation method from the whole to the local was established. Industrial cities, typical corporate and architectural heritage were evaluated. The overall characteristics of urban industrial development were reflected. The renewal of old industrial areas and the protection of industrial heritage were elaborated through the overall co-ordination of urban design and detailed planning. The results showed that it was the key to integrate the protection elements and requirements into the detailed urban control planning. Therefore, special planning plays an important role in protecting industrial heritage.

Point of interest (POI) data can provide a clear spatial location and accurate attributes for geoscience research. The traditional assessment of Beautiful China construction (BCC) has relied on statistical materials, which have shortcomings in terms of timeliness, authenticity, efficiency, and accuracy. Referring to the theoretical framework of the Zhongke Beauty Index, we built an evaluation index system and technical process based on POI data. In terms of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR), 5.09 million POIs were collected using the web crawler technique, and the Beautiful Inner Mongolia construction evaluation and analysis were performed. The results show the following: (1) POI data can be used to establish an evaluation index system for the construction of Beautiful Inner Mongolia on the county scale; in the dimensions of industrial development, social harmony, and institutional improvement, it shows especially good application prospects. (2) The Beautiful Inner Mongolia index in 2020 was 0.22. Among the five dimensions, the industrial development index was the highest, while the cultural heritage index was the lowest. We found significant spatial differences in the dimensions of cultural heritage as well as social harmony. (3) The areas in the IMAR with a low-level construction were mostly industrial and mining areas, agricultural counties, and other economically developing areas, among which the Baiyunebo mining area and Xianghuangqi and Shiguai areas had the lowest comprehensive beauty index values. (4) We also found large numerical disparities in the level of Beautiful Inner Mongolia construction between municipal districts and banners/counties, and the ranking of each region was affected by the population and coverage areas of administrative units. After verification, we found an overall good consistency between the evaluation indexes proposed in this paper and a previous study. Therefore, this paper provides a new perspective and an effective method for the application of Internet big data in economic and social evaluation work.

This article presents new research, which has the objective of defining theoretical and methodological approaches to valorisation and conservation of the industrial heritage. It studies the present condition of industrial heritage in Vojvodina and the evolution of the conservation approach during the period under study (1945- today) through legislation and the documentation of the Institutes for Cultural Heritage Preservation. It indicates the previous inadequate partial evaluation, which has resulted in a loss of many important evidences of the industrial past. A mental schema, based on the Nara document of authenticity, is set as a tool for an interdisciplinary research and evaluation of industrial heritage authenticity. The proposed evaluation method, tested on the example of the brewery in Zrenjanin, results in a conservation project that offers a potential framework for future conservation approach to the industrial heritage of Vojvodina.

Evaluation of the resolution of the Imaging Plate (IP) has been attempted by some methods. An evaluation method for IP resolution, which is not influenced by hard X-rays at higher accelerating voltages, was proposed previously by the present authors. This method, however, requires truoblesome experimental preperations partly because specially synthesized hematite was used as a specimen, and partly because a special shape of the specimen was used as a standard image. In this paper, a convenient evaluation method which is not infuenced by the specimen shape and image direction, is newly proposed. In this method, phase contrast images of thin amorphous film are used.Several diffraction rings are obtained by the Fourier transformation of a phase contrast image of thin amorphous film, taken at a large under focus. The rings show the spatial-frequency spectrum corresponding to the phase contrast transfer function (PCTF). The envelope function is obtained by connecting the peak intensities of the rings. The evelope function is offten used for evaluation of the instrument, because the function shows the performance of the electron microscope (EM).

Abstract To account for the effects of multiple impairments, evaluating physicians must provide a summary value that combines multiple impairments so the whole person impairment is equal to or less than the sum of all the individual impairment values. A common error is to add values that should be combined and typically results in an inflated rating. The Combined Values Chart in the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fifth Edition, includes instructions that guide physicians about combining impairment ratings. For example, impairment values within a region generally are combined and converted to a whole person permanent impairment before combination with the results from other regions (exceptions include certain impairments of the spine and extremities). When they combine three or more values, physicians should select and combine the two lowest values; this value is combined with the third value to yield the total value. Upper extremity impairment ratings are combined based on the principle that a second and each succeeding impairment applies not to the whole unit (eg, whole finger) but only to the part that remains (eg, proximal phalanx). Physicians who combine lower extremity impairments usually use only one evaluation method, but, if more than one method is used, the physician should use the Combined Values Chart.
