Nanostructured copper-diamond composites can be tailored for thermal management applications at high temperature. A novel approach based on multiscale diamond dispersions is proposed for the production of this type of materials: a Cu-nDiamond composite produced by high-energy milling is used as a nanostructured matrix for further dispersion of micrometer sized diamond. The former offers strength and microstructural thermal stability while the latter provides high thermal conductivity. A series of Cu-nDiamond mixtures have been milled to define the minimum nanodiamond fraction suitable for matrix refinement and thermal stabilization. A refined matrix with homogenously dispersed nanoparticles could be obtained with 4 at.% nanodiamond for posterior mixture with mDiamond and subsequent consolidation. In order to define optimal processing parameters, consolidation by hot extrusion has been carried out for a Cu-nDiamond composite and, in parallel, for a mixture of pure copper and mDiamond. The materials produced were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy and microhardness measurements.

In the present study, co-crystals (CCs) of Paliperidone (PPD) with coformers like benzoic acid (BA) and P-amino benzoic acid (PABA) were synthesized and characterized to improve the physicochemical properties and dissolution rate. CCs were prepared by the solvent evaporation (SE) technique and were compared with the products formed by neat grinding (NG) and liquid assisted grinding (LAG) in their enhancement of solubility. The formation of CCs was confirmed by the IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis methods. The saturation solubility studies indicate that the aqueous solubility of PPD-BA and PPD-PABA CCs was significantly improved to 1.343±0.162mg/ml and 1.964±0.452mg/ml, respectively, in comparison with the PPD solubility of 0.473mg/ml. This increase in solubility is 2.83-and 3.09-fold, respectively. PPD exhibited a poor dissolution of 37.8% in 60min, while the dissolution of the CCs improved tremendously to 96.07% and 89.65% in 60min. CCs of PPD with BA and PABA present a novel approach to overcome the solubility challenges of poorly water-soluble drug PPD.

In this research, unzipped sulfanilic acid inspired hydrophobic peptide tube was synthesis by increasing the polarity of sulfanilic acid through nucleophilic attachment of aniline which then provided two reactive sites at the S-terminus. These two sites were then attached with the N-terminal of valine and alanine respectively at an intensity of 1000-1600 of 11 2θ (°). Through π-π stacking at the side chains, the opened ended peptide was linearly arranged to form the unzipped tube. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirm the amine bond formation whiles X-ray diffraction test results confirmed D-spacing 7.36 and 4.44 corresponding 2θ (°)12 and 19.97 respectively whiles the torsion angles (Ø2) conformations was between-150.5°and-169.2° and-2 between-129.0° and-150.6°. The Thermogravimetric analysis result showed an increase in the rigidity of the bond with an increasing intensity. Finally, Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) test was carried out to confirm the crystallinity of the structure. Keywords: Sulfanilic acid, hydrophobic Peptide, Unzipped tubes, Nanomaterial

The enhancement of the ultraviolet (UV) photodegradation resistance of biodegradable polymers can improve their application efficacy in a natural environment. In this study, the hexadecylamine modified layered zinc phenylphosphonate (m-PPZn) was used as a UV protection additive for poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) via solution mixing. The results from the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction analysis of the m-PPZn indicated the occurrence of hexadecylamine intercalation. FTIR and gel permeation chromatography were used to characterize the evolution of the PBAT/m-PPZn composites after being artificially irradiated via a light source. The various functional groups produced via photodegradation were analyzed to illustrate the enhanced UV protection ability of m-PPZn in the composite materials. From the appearance, the yellowness index of the PBAT/m-PPZn composite materials was significantly lower than that of the pure PBAT matrix due to photodegradation. These results were confirmed by the molecular weight reduction in PBAT with increasing m-PPZn content, possibly due to the UV photon energy reflection by the m-PPZn. This study presents a novel approach of improving the UV photodegradation of a biodegradable polymer using an organically modified layered zinc phenylphosphonate composite.

This work presents a novel approach for preparing Cu-loaded TiO2 nanotube arrays through alternating current electrodeposition. The Cu content loaded on the arrays was controlled by changing the concentration of Cu (NO3)2 solution, deposition voltage and time. The surface morphology and crystal structure of Cu-loaded TiO2 nanotube arrays were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the X-ray diffraction (XRD). The effects of Cu content on the photoelectrochemical property were studied in detail. Results show that Cu-loaded TiO2 nanotube arrays have evidently enhanced photoelectrochemical activity. The photocurrent of Cu-loaded TiO2 nanotube arrays prepared in 0.00625 mol/L Cu (NO3)2 solution at 12 V for 20 seconds was 5.7 and 2.3 times as that of unloaded TiO2 nanotube arrays under visible and UV radiation, respectively.

Hot extrusion is employed to produce bulk ZnSb and Zn13Sb10 thermoelectric materials. The extrusion parameters are optimized to achieve high purity products with high density and acceptable mechanical strength for further fabrication processing. Microstructural analysis is performed to investigate the products. X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry show high stability of the ZnSb phase during the extrusion that lead to high purity products. However, the Zn13Sb10 compound decomposes during the extrusion, yielding a bulk sample consisting of several other phases. Hot extrusion shows a great potential for scaled up production of high quality ZnSb thermoelectric materials.
