Since the Hatch-Waxman Act was enacted in 1984, generic drug companies have benefited from its provisions to facilitate approval of generic alternatives to brand-name pharmaceuticals. Upon generic entry, consumers of prescription drugs benefit from large discounts as brand manufacturers lose significant market share to these lower-priced alternatives. Over time, brand-name drug manufacturers have undertaken strategies, such as ‘product switching’ or ‘product hopping’, that may delay or prevent generic entry and protect their market share. Generic drug manufacturers, drug purchasers and antitrust authorities have begun looking to the antitrust laws to address these strategies and their impact on generic entry. This article discusses the regulatory framework under which pharmaceutical companies introduce new drugs, two prominent cases in which courts have wrestled with whether product switching violates the antitrust laws, factors that might support an antitrust claim for product switching, and the FTC's interest in challenging product switching.

To extend the current understanding of brand loyalty in the sportswear industry, this article discusses six factors that influence brand loyalty of university students towards the Hong Kong sportswear market. Conclusions were drawn based on responses collected through online questionnaires. A total of 205 college students participated in the study. The final results showed that only product quality and brand name affect Hong Kong university students’ brand loyalty towards sportswear. However, based on the whole study, other factors (i.e., service quality, store environment, style and promotions) also play a vital role in sportswear marketing. This research provided insight for sportswear marketers in creating proper marketing strategies for the sportswear industry.

The aim of this research is to understand the factors behind smartphone purchase decisions of consumers. Nowadays companies make use of various strategies in order to attract new customers, retain existing customers and differentiate their products from those of their competitors. Perhaps, the most important and effective strategy to influence consumer behavior in the product selection is emphasizing the “brand name” of the products. Our aim in this paper is to investigate how smartphone brands can influence consumers’ buying decisions. Brand equity is a set of brand assets and liabilities linked to a brand name and symbol, which add to or subtract from the value provided by a product or service. It enhances the customer’s ability to interpret and process information, improves confidence in the purchase decision and affects the quality of the user experience. Using this construct widely discussed in the literature, we use and build our hypothesis based on Aaker model about the brand equity, including perceived quality, brand awareness, brand association and brand loyalty. The study involved a questionnaire administered to 171 smartphone consumers between December 2015 and March 2016. The consumers were chosen by convenience sampling among the students from a prestigious university in the Istanbul district of Turkey. Our findings indicate that a majority of the smartphone buyers’ decisions are mainly influenced by brand loyalty and brand awareness. Perceived quality and brand association do not seem to influence purchase decisions for the sample of this study.

<p>This paper attempts to examine whether the consumer is brand conscious and he thinks that the brand name is important for him or not. According to the pilot study and interview method applied in this paper, the most important attributes considered by the customers while repurchasing the car are Price, Comfort and safety, Brand name and Customer Service. The study is based on primary data, collected from Jalandhar city of Punjab. Conjoint analysis is employed to determine which combinations of a limited number of attributes are most influential for the respondents while taking a decision in purchase of passenger car. In conjoint analysis, we use full profile approach in which profiles are reduced using orthogonal array approach. The empirical findings reiterate that consumers in this region experience that the most important attribute in Brand Loyalty is comfort and safety. This is because customers think that the features like front passenger airbags, advanced braking systems and air conditioning are very essential in the today are set up. The second important determinant of Brand Loyalty is price which may be accounted to affordability of the customer. The customers have also given relevance to customer service because the process of building the relationship with customer starts with the purchase of car but it keeps on evolving after the sale. The least importance is given to the attribute - brand name as per the empirical findings of the study.</p>
