In a context of transformation of the higher education institutions’ mission, there is a growing need for the academy to respond to the needs placed both at the political and social levels, which has implications for the scholar’s expected activity. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the growing importance, besides publishing and being cited, of having visibility in the digital world. We conclude that this new dimension, which is being added to the success and legitimacy of the scholar and his/her institution, will have probable direct consequences both on the form and on the contents of future publications. The willingness of scholars to produce publications worthy of social visibility may foster a growing number of publications that are attractive, perhaps less complex and more accessible to the “uninitiated”, what we call glamorous publications.

Social networks currently hold leading positions in the modern media system. Corporate communications of the Russian higher education institutions are no exception. For this reason, higher education institutions being centers of education and science aim to meet the constantly changing standards of the media promotion. The main goal of the research Corporate communications of the Russian universities in social networks: effectiveness assessment is to analyze Russian universities practices in social networks. Which social networks do they use most actively; what type of content do they most frequently upload: photo, text or mixed data type; what are the specifics of higher schools social media strategies? This article presents the results gained from the research of the 10 leading Russian universities media communications in social networks. The research has shown that quality examination is more effective than quantity measurements while assessing the effectiveness of corporate communications. Moreover, the research covered the most popular social networks and characteristics of their efficiency. In fact, the high level of audience coverage, which is expressed in the number of subscribers, and an increasing number of publications per day (reaching sometimes 10 posts) do not always correlate to users engagement. This measurement is now the most meaningful for corporate communications.

Purpose The management of organisational knowledge and the promotion of staff knowledge sharing are largely neglected in higher education institutions. The purpose of this study is to examine how enterprise social networks can enable staff knowledge sharing in communities of practice in that context. Design/methodology/approach The study is framed as an Action Research project, covering three cycles over a 12-month period. During the Diagnosing phase, a conceptual model was developed for empirical testing. Data were collected through 30 semi-structured interviews and a number of focus groups. This was supplemented by content analysis and reflective journaling. Findings The findings support the conceptual model and provide insight into the antecedents necessary for the creation of an enterprise social network-enabled knowledge-sharing environment, the motivators for and barriers to participation, and the perceived organisational and individual benefits of increased staff knowledge-sharing activity. Research limitations/implications As the study has a higher education focus, all of the findings may not be generalizable to other types of organisation. Further development of the conceptual model and testing in other contextual settings will yield greater generalizability. Practical implications A number of findings have practical implications for the management of higher education institutions, such as the evidence of a divide between faculty and other staff. In general, the study findings provide an opportunity for educationalists to better understand the scope and impact of employing social media platforms for knowledge sharing. Originality/value This paper adds to the growing body of work on organisational implementations of social media, and should be of interest to practitioners and researchers undertaking similar projects.

Social media is being increasingly utilised within society as an interactive communication platform. It has revolutionised the manner in which organisations communicate with their stakeholders, from the old way of simply designing messages and transmitting them across a desired medium, described as a static, one-way communication channel. Communications are the means by which organisations achieve their strategic goals through influencing their stakeholders. Social media allows stakeholders to connect to one another in relational, interactional networks. This means that stakeholders can now interact with organisations and each other and have a greater influence on the outcomes of communication strategies, which was impossible with traditional media. Organisations have less power dictating communications to stakeholders who in turn have more power in co-creating communication with each other. Social media is likely to have a major competitive impact on higher education institutions and these institutions should be accounting for these changes in their future strategy development. This chapter explores how social media is being utilized in organisations.

Direitos humanos. Formação de educadores.Educação Prisional. Direitos humanos. Formação de educadoresAbstractThe education of persons deprived of their liberty in an inclusive and resocialising perspective: limits and contradictionsThis work proposes to weave theoretical reflections on education in the context of deprivation of liberty, giving visibility to a thematic to be faced by the educators in the academy. The education of people in situations of deprivation of liberty faces numerous challenges both in the political sphere and in the pedagogical field. In the political sphere, there are contradictions related to the existing conflict about the purpose of the education of the convicteds, whether it is useful to promote socialization or the reduction of penalties. In the pedagogical context, the challenges mainly cover the level of quality and the educational function within the penitentiary system. A typically non-formal reality such as imprisonment most often has as its educational model the reproduction of a formal education. Prison and socio-educational compliance units are characterized by overpopulation, continued practices of torture against the prison inmates, a breach of national and international legislation to guarantee the rights of the convicteds and of adolescents in conflicts with the law, spaces dominated by crime, the promiscuity of values, corruption among inmates, agents of the State and other elements that make up the relationships in these spaces. Faced with these problems, it was identified the urgency of curricular adequacy, with emphasis on reformulation and initial and in-service teacher training. Higher education institutions should develop a curriculum that satisfactorily contemplates theoretical and practical discussions within the field of internships, as well as in the systematization of disciplines focused on didactic-pedagogical issues that make it possible to reflect on the teaching performance in this context. The emergence of an effective curricular proposal that meets the educational needs of the person deprived of liberty, contextualized to their socio-cultural reality, must start from the presumption of the existence of a prison culture that needs to be considered. The work presented epistemic critiques to higher education institutions that erase, through their academic actions, educational realities similar to those of the prison. Education systems are challenged to develop articulations that break with the culture of violence, and begin to be based on human rights education, to be discussed and made feasible within the prisons. It is noted that there are already some publications of Brazilian authors that discuss the importance of prison education in the EJA (Adults and Young Adults Education) modality in a dimension focused on the legitimation of the Human Rights of detainees and the teaching representations in this educational field.Prison Education. Human rights. Training of educators.

BACKGROUND Social networks are now essential tools for promoting research and researchers. However, there is no study investigating the link between presence or not on professional social networks and scientific publication or citation for a given researcher. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to study the link between professional presence on social networks and scientific publications/citations among anesthesia researchers. METHODS We included all the French full professors and associate professors of anesthesia. We analyzed their presence on the social networks Twitter (professional account with ≥1 tweet over the 6 previous months) and ResearchGate. We extracted their bibliometric parameters for the 2016-2020 period via the Web of Science Core Collection (Clarivate Analytics) database in the Science Citation Index-Expanded index. RESULTS A total of 162 researchers were analyzed; 42 (25.9%) had an active Twitter account and 110 (67.9%) a ResearchGate account. There was no difference between associate professors and full professors regarding active presence on Twitter (8/23 [35%] vs. 34/139 [24.5%], respectively; P=.31) or ResearchGate (15/23 [65%] vs. 95/139 [68.3%], respectively; P=.81). Researchers with an active Twitter account (median [IQR]) had more scientific publications (45 [28-61] vs. 26 [12-41]; P<.001), a higher h-index (12 [8-16] vs. 8 [5-11]; P<.001), a higher number of citations per publication (12.54 [9.65-21.8] vs. 10.63 [5.67-16.10]; P=.01), and a higher number of citations (563 [321-896] vs. 263 [105-484]; P<.001). Researchers with a ResearchGate account (median [IQR]) had more scientific publications (33 [17-47] vs. 26 [9-43]; P=.03) and a higher h-index (9 [6-13] vs. 8 [3-11]; P=.03). There was no difference between researchers with a ResearchGate account and those without it concerning the number of citations per publication and overall number of citations. In multivariate analysis including sex, academic status, and presence on social networks, the presence on Twitter was associated with the number of publications (β=20.2; P<.001), the number of citations (β=494.5; P<.001), and the h-index (β=4.5; P<.001). CONCLUSIONS Among French anesthesia researchers, an active presence on Twitter is associated with higher scientific publication and citations.

This paper aims to develop a systematic review on graduate employability and competence development, intending to present an international perspective on the matter. It analyses the role of higher education institutions in promoting the development of competences for employability. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) statement was used as a formal systematic review guideline for data collection. Data was obtained from research studies over the period 2009–2019. The analysis included a total of 69 papers from Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases. Results show that Europe leads the number of publications on these topics during the past decade. One of the main issues associated with competence development and graduate employability found in the review is related to the (mis)match between university graduates’ competences and employers’ needs. Findings indicate that higher education institutions are concerned with using strategies to enhance the development of competences for graduate employability. Graduate employability and competence development around the world depend on a strong sense of innovation and collaboration practices implemented in higher education.

According to the literature, social relationships have a positive influence on work-related attitudes and behaviours. Taking into account that Online Social Networks (OSNs), brought about by Web 2.0, have become an international phenomena and have a considerable impact on the way people communicate and interact with each other, the chapter's purpose is to evaluate the effect that the use of OSNs has on the worker's attitudes and behaviours. In this way, the authors use a questionnaire to evaluate the attitudes of 157 faculty members in Higher Education Institutions (HEI). To assess the use of OSNs by faculty members, they use a binary variable. After analysing and discussing the results, the authors conclude that the use of OSNs influences the workers' performance traits. The relations they propose in what concerns the workers' attitudes are all empirically proven. At last, the authors describe the study limitations and suggest some perspectives for future research.
