Bitterness such as Naringin in Grapefruits and Limonin in all Citrus fruits have a strong influence on consumers’ choices for their favorite juices. There have been many methods from ultrafiltration to biocatalysis used to lower such bitter compounds and make the juices more desirable by the consumer. One major tool for such debittering operation is the use of synthetic adsorbents which will be discussed in this paper. Ion exchange resins and adsorbents have been used for over a century in various food applications to concentrate flavors, decolorize juices, and enhance the quality of the final product. These types of resins are being synthesized to specific parameters to distinguish them from other tools. Mitsubishi Chemical’s work on optimizing their synthetic adsorbents for high bitterness removal from citrus juice was investigated. Parameters such as the base matrix structure, pore size and distribution, as well as the effect of surface area were studied. As the FDA has strict definitions about the appropriate resin chemistry that can be used in a food application (21 CFR 173.65), progress in new resin chemistry was limited by such regulations. This paper discusses the use of the original Sepabeads SP70 which was introduced into the market about 20 years ago, to the high capacity resin, Sepabeads SP700, which was introduced 10 years ago, and finally, to the Sepabeads SP710, which is the current optimized version of 20 years of research work. Mitsubishi Chemical’s resins were compared to other resins in the industry for the removal of naringin, limonin, and 8-hydroxyfuranocoumarin (furanocoumarins are compounds that affects the proper absorption of certain medications). Proper regeneration and rejuvenation of these resins were outlined. Paper published with permission.

The assent procedure reflects an effort to enable the minor to understand, to the degree they are capable of, what their participation in the decision making process would involve. Aims: To evaluate the minors’ ability to understand the information provided to them when obtaining assent and to evaluate the opinion of the parents regarding the importance of asking the child’s assent. Methods: The sample included a total of 52 minors aged between 10 and 17 years who underwent exercise echocardiogram. The Quality of Informed Consent is divided into two parts: Part A was used to measure objective understanding and part B to measure subjective understanding. Results: The results show that the minors have a high capacity to understand the information given to them when asking for assent. A positive relationship was found between the two parts of the questionnaire. No statistically significant relationship was found between age and sex and part A and part B or between both age groups (<14 years old and ≥14 years old) and the measure. In the case of the parents, 96.6% of parents consider assent as an advantage for the child’s acceptance of health care. The opinion of the parents is not related to the age, sex or level of schooling. Conclusion: Minors showed a substantial level of understanding regarding the information provided to them. The parents considered the implementation of assent fundamental to the child’s acceptance of health care.

This work is a contribution towards the understanding of wire bond integrity and reliability in relation to their microstructural and mechanical properties in semiconductor packaging. The effect of surface roughness and hardness of leadframe on the bondability of Au wedge bond still requires detail analysis. Two type of leadframes namely leadframe A and leadframe B were chosen and scanning electron microscope (SEM) and optical microscope were used to inspect the surface morphology of leadframes and the quality of created Au wedge bond after wire bonding process. It was found that there were significant differences in the surface morphologies between these two leadframes. The atomic force microscopy (AFM) which was utilized to measure the average roughness, Ra of lead finger confirms that leadframe A has the highest Ra with value of 166.46 nm compared to that of leadframe B with value of 85.89 nm. While hardness value of different lead finger from the selected leadframe A and B obtained using Vicker microhardness tester are 180.9 VH and 154.2VH respectively.

Safety of milk on microbiological indicators is an important condition for acceptance on the milk processing enterprise. High microbial contamination of milk and increased content of somatic cells in milk are often the cause of discrepancy to modern requirements of national and international regulatory documents. The development and implementation of measures aimed at improving the condition of the udder of cows, the use of modern means of processing is one of the most important tasks to improve the sanitary and hygienic conditions of milk production. Prevention of mastitis is one of the effective ways to improve the safety and quality of cows' milk. It is known that the most affordable way to prevent mastitis is strict hygiene during milking. In our article the results of research work received in the conditions of a dairy farm are presented. Researches on use of modern domestic means of processing of an udder before and after milking are carried out. For this, two experimental and one control groups were created. In summer and autumn, the udder of cows in the experimental groups were treated with special detergents and disinfectants. In the control group, the udders were not treated with special means. Udder hygiene was maintained by washing the nipples with warm water, as is customary in the household. It was established that the treatment of the udder of cows with disinfectants decreased the number of mesophilic aerobic and facultatively anaerobic microorganisms and somatic cells in the milk of cows.

Purpose: to analyze the experience of Russian scientists in the field of application of a differentiated approach to agricultural crops irrigation. The overview of research work of domestic scientists on the use of an irrigation system in agriculture, in which the provision of agricultural crops with water to maintain a given level of the minimum water capacity will be carried out during the most critical periods of their growth and development is presented. During irrigation, the timing, frequency, irrigation rates depend on the level of groundwater occurrence, agrochemical properties of soils, weather and climatic conditions, phases of growth and development of crops. The application of a differentiated irrigation regime to maintain a given level of pre-irrigation moisture allows increasing the productivity of agricultural crops, the quality of products obtained while reducing irrigation and watering rates, the number of waterings. Conclusions. The study of the results of research work of domestic scientists in the field of influence of irrigation and the fertilization system on the yield and quality of agricultural products allows concluding that obtaining the planned yields is possible only if irrigation regimes are observed and the level of soil fertility is maintained by applying various fertilizers. The use of a differentiated approach to irrigation while maintaining a given level of pre-irrigation soil moisture during critical periods of crop development allows reducing irrigation water consumption and optimizing irrigation rates and their quantity. The study of a differentiated irrigation regime is promising now and in the near future, taking into account the deteriorating water supply in the territory of our country, associated with a change in weather and climatic conditions.
