In 2012, there was an increase in vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) isolated from the intensive care unit at the University Hospital of Cologne. Using whole-genome sequencing it was possible to establish that bloodstream infections with VRE were not the result of an outbreak or cross infections.

Four multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates were cultured from intensive care unit wastewater. All isolates exhibited resistance to carbapenem and extended-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotics.

The draft genome sequences of seven multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains belonging to sequence types ST-208 and ST-218 are reported in this study. They were isolated from tracheobronchial aspirate of mechanically ventilated adult patients admitted to the intensive care unit of a Spanish tertiary hospital during 2010 to 2011.

We have examined the draft genomes of 388 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates obtained from intensive care unit patients at three geographically distributed hospitals to determine genomic diversity associated with potential health care worker-associated transmission.

We report here the genome sequences of 10 Klebsiella pneumoniae strains of capsular type K2 isolated in Russia from patients in an infectious clinical hospital and neurosurgical intensive care unit. The draft genome sizes range from 5.34 to 5.87 Mb and include 5,448 to 6,137 protein-coding sequences.

ABSTRACT Salmonella is a common food-associated bacterium that has substantial impact on worldwide human health and the global economy. This is the public release of 1,183 Salmonella draft genome sequences as part of the 100K Pathogen Genome Project. These isolates represent global genomic diversity in the Salmonella genus.
