The specific conductivities and pH values of copper sulphate solutions in water were measured in the temperature range from 10 °C to 50 °C. The data, previously corrected by hydrolysis, were analyzed by means of the Lee Wheaton theory. This fit, for the evaluation of Λ0, R, and KA parameters, is quite satisfactory up to a maximum concentration of 25 × 10−4 moldm−3 and the agreement between experimental data and the literature value for 25 °C is acceptable.

The reactions of phenylhydrazonopropanedinitriles with thiols are reversible and with increasing pH-values of aqueous solutions the equilibrium is shifted them to the side of the reactants. A mechanism of the decay of corresponding addition products was proposed and the kinetic description based on this mechanism is in good agreement with the obtained experimental data. From the viewpoint of the decay, the pH-dependent dissociation of the proton of the imino group formed by addition of thiol to the nitrile carbon atom plays a decisive role. The obtained knowledge is useful with respect to the use of phenylhydrazonopropanedinitriles as affinants for selective and reversible sorption of low-molecular thiols and thiol-proteins in affinity chromatography as well as for the study of the mechanism of the effect of these substances in oxidative and photosynthetic phosphorylation and biological systems in general.

The adsorption of triclocarban was investigated on pristine and irradiated MWCNTs, at different temperatures, in aqueous synthetic samples at different pH values and for different concentrations of humic acid (HA) from natural organic matter. Commonly used models of the adsorption isotherms, Freundlich and Langmuir were selected to fit the experimental data. The effects of TCC concentration, of the temperature and of the concentration of humic acid from natural organic matter were tested to study the impact of the environmental conditions over the sorption process.

The article deals with the production, sorption and rheological properties of composite materials based on polymer hydrogel and bentonite. It is shown that bentonite prevents the collapse of the hydrogel in aqueous solutions of electrolytes and leads to an increase in the moisture content after the collapse. After several repeated cycles of swelling in water, followed by drying at 60 and 110 °C, the degree of swelling of the composite is higher than that of the hydrogel. In the temperature range from 20 to 40 °C, the polymer hydrogel and the composite are able to withstand at least ten cycles of swelling and drying without changing the degree of swelling.

The experimental evaluation of the vapor pressure of saturated aqueous solutions of potassium sulfate was carried out in the range of temperatures 310 K≤T≤345 K. The experimental data were used to determine the corresponding values of the water activity in such solutions. The analytical expressions as a function of temperature of both, vapor pressure and water activity, were obtained from the correlation of the experimental results. The vapor pressure expression was also extrapolated to a different temperature range in order to make a comparison with the results obtained by other authors.

Based on the earlier paper introducing a concept of the apparent parachor of a solute in the solution, we have eliminated in the present work algebraically the effect which is introduced into this quantity by the additivity of the apparent molal volumes. The difference remaining from the apparent parachor after substracting the contribution corresponding to the apparent volume ( for which the present authors suggest the name metachor) was evaluated from the experimental values of the surface tension of aqueous solutions for a set of 1,1-, 1,2- and 2,1-valent electrolytes. This difference showed to be independent of concentration up to the very high values of the order of units mol dm-3 but it was directly proportional to the number of the free charges (with a proportionality factor 5 ± 1 cm3 mol-1 identical for all studied electrolytes). The metachor can be, for this reason, a suitable characteristic for detection of the association of ions and formation of complexes in the solutions of electrolytes, up to high concentrations where other methods are failing.

Oxytetracycline (OTC), also known commercially as Terramycin, was determined to be more stable in honey than in buffered aqueous solutions at similar pH values and temperatures. A rapid high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed to detect and quantitate OTC using a 1:1 dilution (wt/wt) of honey samples in water. Using 355 nm as the wavelength of detection, amounts as low as 0.5 μg/ml could be detected in the above solution. The limits of detection were lowered considerably by a double extraction procedure.
