Improved community model for social networks based on social mobility

This paper proposes an improved community model for social networks based on social mobility. The relationship between the group distribution and the community size is investigated in terms of communication rate and turnover rate. The degree distributions, clustering coefficients, average distances and diameters of networks are analyzed. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model possesses the small-world property and can reproduce social networks effectively and efficiently.

In this paper, based on the phenomenon that individuals join into and jump from the organizations in the society, we propose a dynamic community model to construct social networks. Two parameters are adopted in our model, one is the communication rate Pa that denotes the connection strength in the organization and the other is the turnover rate Pb, that stands for the frequency of jumping among the organizations. Based on simulations, we analyze not only the degree distribution, the clustering coefficient, the average distance and the network diameter but also the group distribution which is closely related to their community structure. Moreover, we discover that the networks generated by the proposed model possess the small-world property and can well reproduce the networks of social contacts.

Power law degree distribution, the small world property, and bad spectral expansion are three of the most important properties of On-line Social Networks (OSNs). We sampled YouTube and Wikipedia to investigate OSNs. Our simulation and computational results support the conclusion that OSNs follow a power law degree distribution, have the small world property, and bad spectral expansion. We calculated the diameters and spectral gaps of OSNs samples, and compared these to graphs generated by the GEO-P model. Our simulation results support the Logarithmic Dimension Hypothesis, which conjectures that the dimension of OSNs is m = [log N]. We introduced six GEO-P type models. We ran simulations of these GEO-P-type models, and compared the simulated graphs with real OSN data. Our simulation results suggest that, except for the GEO-P (GnpDeg) model, all our models generate graphs with power law degree distributions, the small world property, and bad spectral expansion.

Topological indices describe mathematical invariants of molecules in mathematical chemistry. M-polynomials of chemical graph theory have freedom about the nature of molecular graphs and they play a role as another topological invariant. Social networks can be both cyclic and acyclic in nature. We develop a novel application of M-polynomials, the ( m , n , r ) -agent recruitment graph where n > 1 , to study the relationship between the Dunbar graphs of social networks and the small-world phenomenon. We show that the small-world effects are only possible if everyone uses the full range of their network when selecting steps in the small-world chain. Topological indices may provide valuable insights into the structure and dynamics of social network graphs because they incorporate an important element of the dynamical transitivity of such graphs.

Background: A structural covariance network (SCN) has been used successfully to structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies. However, most SCNs were constructed by a unitary marker that was insensitive for discriminating different disease phases. The aim of this study was to devise a novel regional radiomics similarity network (R2SN) that could provide more comprehensive information in morphological network analysis. Methods: R2SNs were constructed by computing the Pearson correlations between the radiomics features extracted from any pair of regions for each subject. We further assessed the small-world property of R2SNs using the graph theory method, and we evaluated the reproducibility in different datasets and the reliability of the R2SNs through test-retest analysis. The relationship between the R2SNs and interregional coexpression of enriched genes was also explored, as well as the relationship with general intelligence. Results: R2SNs could be replicated in different datasets, regardless of the use of different feature subsets. R2SNs showed high reliability in the test-retest analysis (intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC)>0.7). In addition, the small-word property (σ>2) and the high correlation between gene expression (R=0.24, P<0.001) and general intelligence were determined for R2SNs. Conclusion: R2SNs provides a novel, reliable, and biologically plausible method to understand human morphological covariance based on structural MRI.

This paper focuses on explaining how individuals set goals on multiple performance episodes, in the context of performance feedback comparing their performance on each episode with their respective goal. The proposed model was tested through a longitudinal study of 493 university students’ actual goals and performance on business school exams. Results of a structural equation model supported the proposed conceptual model in which self-efficacy and emotional reactions to feedback mediate the relationship between feedback and subsequent goals. In addition, as expected, participants’ standing on a dispositional measure of behavioral inhibition influenced the strength of their emotional reactions to negative feedback.

Malaysia has recorded the second highest involuntary turnover rate at 6% and third highest voluntary rate at 6.5% in South East Asia. Employee loyalty becomes critical towards employer. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between career development, compensation, job security, work environment and employee loyalty. In conducting this study, convenience sampling technique has been employed and respondents have been chosen in the area of Kuala Lumpur. Hypothesis were tested using regression analysis by using Smart-PLS. Based on the result, career development, compensation and job security were found to be significant with employee loyalty. However, work environment was found to be not significant with employee loyalty. It is suggested for future research to explore other variables in order to find the factors contributed in employee loyalty.
