How do innovation ecosystems affect the technological innovation capabilities (TICs), as defined by Yam et al. (2004), and company performance? Empirical data was acquired through a survey of 75 maritime equipment suppliers in an industry cluster in Norway. Regression analysis was supplemented with partial least square methods in order to compensate for the low number of respondents. Significant effects were found for manufacturing and marketing capabilities on company performance. The results for organisational capability were method dependent. Learning, R&D, resource allocation and strategic capabilities were identified as insignificant. These results conflict with other studies that identified manufacturing capabilities as the only insignificant TIC construct. However, the findings are partially in line with studies that have questioned learning, organising, and resource capabilities as drivers for competitive advantages. The moderating effect of cluster interaction and manufacturing capability on performance is coherent with prior research, but further research is needed for a deeper understanding of these interaction effects.

High company performance can be achieved if all elements in the company are well integrated, and are able to carry out their roles according to the needs of employees. The purpose of this study is to analyze and determine (1) competence, (2) work motivation, (3) employee performance, and (4) the effect of competence and work motivation on employee performance. This type of research is descriptive and verification using explanatory survey research methods, and to test the hypotheses of this research will be analyzed using a structural equation model (Structural Equation Model, SEM) with the Partial Least Square (PLS) alternative method using SmartPLS 3.0 software. The results of testing the first hypothesis show that there is a significant correlation between competence and work motivation at the Ariyanti Education Foundation. The results of the second hypothesis show that competence has a positive and significant effect on employee performance at the Ariyanti Education Foundation. The third hypothesis shows that work motivation has a positive and significant effect on employee performance at the Ariyanti Education Foundation. The fourth hypothesis shows that competence and work motivation together have a positive and significant effect on employee performance at the Ariyanti Education Foundation. So it is clear that competence, work motivation and employee performance are interrelated. This must be considered because there is a mutually influencing relationship between the three. The empirical assessment of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from different perspectives is an ever-green research agenda because of their enormous contributions to developed and developing economies. However, the size and resource limitations hinder the progress of SMEs. In this regard, business networks and connections have great potential to enable SMEs’ access to scarce and valuable resources. Entrepreneurial SMEs’ healthy relationships and connections with stakeholders can yield dynamism and innovativeness. Despite that, the understanding of these networks and connections over the innovation capability of entrepreneurial SMEs is limited and needs further empirical investigation. Thus, this study is among the preliminary ones which assay the impact of network capability on innovation capability in the entrepreneurial SMEs context. This study also investigates the above relationship through social capital. The study ground its assumptions based on dynamic capability theory and collected feedback via a questionnaire from 199 entrepreneurial SMEs operating in Pakistan. After ensuring the reliability and validity of collected feedback, the study employed the partial least square structural equation modeling technique to analyze it. Results of the study expand the understanding by unveiling that network capability has a substantial positive impact on innovation capability. This implies that by fortifying network capability, entrepreneurial SMEs substantially enhance their capabilities to innovate. Results also affirm that by building strong network capability, entrepreneurial SMEs boost their social capital, which subsequently has a positive and significant impact on innovation capability. Finally, by operationalizing the proposed model in the entrepreneurial SMEs context, this study made novel contributions to the literature of network capability, social capital, innovation capability, and entrepreneurship.
