The NASA Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) is a 2.5[Formula: see text]m telescope in a modified Boeing 747SP aircraft that is flown at high altitude to do unique astronomy in the infrared. SOFIA is a singular integration of aircraft operations, telescope design, and science instrumentation that delivers observational opportunities outside the capability of any other facility. The science ground operations are the transition and integration point of the science, aircraft, and telescope. We present the ground operations themselves and the tools used to prepare for mission success. Specifically, we will discuss operations from science instrument delivery to aircraft operation and mission readiness. We will also provide a discussion of instrument life cycle including maintenance and repair, both before and after acceptance by the observatory as well as retirement. Included in that will be a description of the facilities and their development, an overview of the SOFIA telescope assembly simulator, our deployment capabilities, as well as an outlook to the future of novel science instrument support for SOFIA.

This article develops a framework for applying organizational narrative theory to understand project narratives that potentially perform and change the future. Project narratives are temporal but often get repeated throughout the project life cycle to stabilize meaning, and could be about project mission, vision, identity, value creation, and so forth. Project narratives have important implications for organizational identity and image crafting. This article differentiates among different types of project narratives in relation to a project life cycle, providing case studies of project narratives on three major UK rail projects. We then set out the future research agenda into project narrative work.

Heat production from a geothermal energy source is gaining increasing attention due to its potential contribution to the decarbonization of the European energy sector. Obtaining representative results of the environmental performances of geothermal systems and comparing them with other renewables is of utmost importance in order to ensure an effective energy transition as targeted by Europe. This work presents the outputs of a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) performed on the Rittershoffen geothermal heat plant applying guidelines that were developed within the H2020 GEOENVI project. The production of 1 kWhth from the Rittershoffen heat plant was compared to the heat produced from natural gas in Europe. Geothermal heat production performed better than the average heat production in climate change and resource use, fossil categories. The LCA identified the electricity consumption during the operation and maintenance phase as a hot spot for several impact categories. A prospective scenario analysis was therefore performed to assess the evolution of the environmental performances of the Rittershoffen heat plant associated with the future French electricity mixes. The increase of renewable energy shares in the future French electricity mix caused the impact on specific categories (e.g., land use and mineral and metals resource depletion) to grow over the years. However, an overall reduction of the environmental impacts of the Rittershoffen heat plant was observed.

Abstract This study using the object research is breeder chicken egg layer Surajiman, Tanjung Bintang. The effort farms chicken egg layer Surajiman, Tanjung Bintang. Was founded by Mr. Surajiman in 2016 in the Village Serdang IIIA, Tanjung Bintang. This is built on a farm land with a land area of 200 m2, with the number of cattle chicken as much as 600 tail. In this study data taken still 600 tail. In doing this business Mr. Surajiman still managed myself because the number of chicken in pet still relative a little. If a farm knowing stages where at first chicken only number 600 tail. On the life-cycle of certain before the production of the egg declined, then it can be added to the become more, in addition should also divide the chicken in some period of the age of chicken in order to maintain the cycle of the age of chicken so can improve the quality of the egg results his production. With knowing the cycle of chicken, it will make a farm become more advanced in the production of peck at her eggs and increased profits that in the future. Abstract Nowadays the climate change is widely recognized as a global threat by both public opinion and industries. Actions to mitigate its causes are gaining momentum within all industries. In the energy field, there is the necessity to reduce emissions and to improve technologies to preserve the environment. LCA analyses of products are fundamental in this context. In the present work, a life cycle assessment has been carried out to calculate the carbon footprint of different water washing processes, as well as their effectiveness in recovering Gas Turbine efficiency losses. Field data have been collected and analyzed to make a comparison of the GT operating conditions before and after the introduction of an innovative high flow online water washing technique. The assessments have been performed using SimaPro software and cover the entire Gas Turbine and Water Washing skids operations, including the airborne emissions, skid pump, the water treatment and the heaters.

OBJECTIVE: High altitudes imply exposure to a decreased ambient air pressure. Such a situation may also alter the performance of acoustic transducers using vibrating diaphragms due to air rarefaction. This study aimed at analyzing the performance at high altitude of hearing aids (HAs) where mechano-electric and electro-mechanic transducers are used. METHODS: A hypobaric chamber was used to perform two separated experimental sessions. In the first one two commercial models of HAs were exposed to a simulated altitude of 25,000 ft (7620 m) and to a subsequent rapid decompression profile, with a rapid climb (< 3 s) from 8000 (2438 m) to 25,000 ft. The second session separately analyzed the performance of microphone and receiver at an altitude of 9000 and 15,000 ft (2743 and 4572 m). Before and after the first session, the HAs were tested with an electronic ear while a dedicated recording system was used in the second session. RESULTS: No HA damage or dysfunction was detected during the first session. In the second one, the microphone showed a mild decrease of its output, while the receiver exhibited a much higher reduction of its output. CONCLUSION: Our findings highlight the safe use of HAs even under extreme environmental pressure changes. For altitudes exceeding 10,000 ft (3048 m), a recalibration of the HAs output via a dedicated program may be suggested. Lucertini M, Sanjust F, Manca R, Cerini L, Lucertini L, Sisto R. In 2024, all commercial operations at the Pickering Nuclear Generation Station cease and the station will begin its decommissioning process. Ontario Power Generation is currently looking developing a repurposing strategy for the site throughout the decommissioning process, which is expected to be complete by 2064. This project presents a unique opportunity to re-imagine the future of this site, while setting a precedent for the reuse of nuclear sites and facilities once they have reached the end of their life cycle – an issue that will be more prevalent in the coming years. This project proposes a vision for the site to be transformed into parkland using ecological restoration practices, and establishing a Centre for Clean Energy Technology. Using design as a form of research, the project was informed by background research that included a review of existing literature on post-industrial site redevelopment, precedent studies, and site reconnaissance.

The environmental impacts of a product can be reduced in the three phases of its life cycle: production supply chain, service and retirement. The reduction of production volume, especially by extending the service life of existing products would mitigate environmental impacts. Durability, maintenance and repair can prolong normal operation. However, if service requirements change, the product may be retired while still in working condition. In these cases, retirement could be postponed if the product is capable of “adapting” to the new requirements. This paper shows the scope of “postponing retirement” in environmental design research, and discusses the benefits of adaptable design.

How do Chinese information inspectors censor the internet? In light of the assumption that inspectors must follow specific rules instead of ambiguous guidelines, such as precluding collective action, to decide what and when to delete, this study attempts to offer a dynamic understanding of censorship by exploiting well-structured Weibo data from before and after the 2018 Taiwanese election. This study finds that inspectors take advantage of time in handling online discussions with the potential for collective action. Through this deferral tactic, inspectors make online sentiments moderately flow regarding an important political event, and thereafter, past discussions on trendy topics will be mostly removed. Therefore, reality is selectively altered; the past is modified, and the future will be remembered in a ``preferable" way.
