This introductory chapter provides an overview of the relationship between habit and climate change. It would be hard to overestimate the role of habit in people's lives. At one level, this is all well and good. There are, of course, bad habits, which people try to kick, but people's daily life would collapse without the scaffolding of habit. Still, when one contemplates climate change and the catastrophic future it presages, it is hard not to conclude that “business as usual” simply cannot continue for long. “Business as usual” means the common cloth of people's Western daily lives, their normal practices, in large part consisting of habits—personal, collective, economic, and intellectual. Forms of life, patterns of dwelling, other than the current consumerist model are undoubtedly possible. But whether people can get there from here voluntarily is another matter. If reinhabiting the earth means changing some of people's deep habits, habits reflecting historical sedimentations and congealings, then unearthing the forces in play, seeing how they operate and what is at stake in reconfiguring them, is a historical task to which philosophy can at least contribute. Economists are also central to imagining other economic orders, such as that of degrowth.

Abstract The transition from adolescence to adulthood is associated with many physical, social, and psychological changes. In addition, adolescents also have to deal with structural changes. An example of one such structural change is the transition from school to university or to other vocational establishments. Structural changes can also entail changes in overall framework conditions and daily life patterns and thus also in dietary habits and physical activity levels. The aim of the present paper was to draw attention to the research deficit in this area with the help of the results of our analyses. The results show that significant changes take place as a consequence of the transition from school to a vocational establishment. However, our analyses could not identify the exact catalysts and the time framework of these changes. In this respect, further research is urgently warranted.

Objective: To contextualize experiences of activities during the day and investigate whether the contour of the day is correlated with well-being during activities. Methods: Drawing on American Time Use Surveys, we employ sequence and cluster analyses to create distinct typologies of daily life patterns, and bivariate analyses to describe whether well-being across activities varies by these typologies. Results: We identified four typologies characterized by different primary activity of the day: leisure (22.7%), TV (22.4%), housework (47.5%), and work (7.5%). Individuals in the work and leisure clusters tend to report more positive well-being and individuals in the housework and TV clusters tend to report more negative well-being in experiences of activities during the day. We also found that well-being experiences in the same activity differed across individuals in the different typologies. Conclusion: Understanding the daily life patterns of older adults may be important, given its correlation with well-being during activities.

Abstract Remembering intentions is critical for daily life, yet errors happen surprisingly often, even when there are fatal consequences, as in the “forgotten baby syndrome”. To study how people forget personally-important intentions, we took 192 students’ cell phones and attached an activity tracker to their clothes while they participated in an unrelated experiment in our lab. We examined how often students forgot to retrieve their cell phone (personally important task) and return the tracker (experimenter relevant task) when they left the lab, and whether it mattered if the instructions were explicitly encoded or not. Students only forgot the tracker 10-13% more often than their cell phone, and explicit instructions did not reduce forgetting; neither did longer, more distracting ongoing tasks. Between 60-70% of participants said the intention “popped into mind”. We suggest that PM intentions are “autonomically” encoded, yet even personally important tasks are forgotten at surprising rates.

Entering the era of globalization, the use of information technology in all areas of daily life cannot be avoided. There are at least two technologies that have developed rapidly in the last few years for the lives of millions of people, namely the internet and cell phones. By combining these two technologies, technology is created that makes it possible to access information that does not depend on the information source and location of access, namely WAP.  Along with the development of the combination of the two technologies, several business owners began to use it. One of them is the Podomoro Notebook Store, which is located at SCC Plaza Simpang Lima, Fl. V No. 62 Semarang which is engaged in selling notebooks is trying to use it. There are several things that might encourage this application to be used, including in terms of notebook sales. The absence of an application regarding ordering goods online is also an obstacle for the shop. The solution to solving the problem of this case is to create a wap-based information system for ordering goods. With the wap-based information system, it is hoped that it will help a little in terms of sales and this system can help to order goods online.

‘Apa guna berkain batik, kalau tidak berbaju kasa, Apa guna memang cantik, kalau tidak berbudi bahasa’. History has proven how the life patterns of society in the past were reflected through the values that became the basis of the development of civilization. The value is essentially an impression that affects the choice pattern of the form, the tool and the goal of action. The value becomes a measure and holds on the good bad or pretty ugliness of a behaviour based on the norms or habits of the society. As members of a society, individuals are nurtured by social values shared with others and that values eventually become prevalent in the society. From norm it becomes the civilizational values that is owned by a civilization. In the context of Malaysian society, these civilizational values is part of the society that cannot be separated. This value includes behaviour, speech and temperament. However, lately we could see that the courtesy value within our society is declining and shows the scenario is being marginalized in the daily life of the community. In this regard, the study aims at examining the level of consciousness in courtesy and looking at the forms of ignorance of the noble practices. This study uses quantitative methods that involve the collection of key data through survey of 100 people among various communities. Keywords: Practice, courtesy, values of civilization, society Abstrak: ‘Apa guna berkain batik, kalau tidak berbaju kasa, Apa guna memang cantik, kalau tidak berbudi bahasa’.

Script theory has been used to understand shared social norms for behavior in specific situations [1], and more broadly, to analyze individual life patterns by looking at highly personalized life scripts [2]. This article applies a methodology derived from script theory in an attempt to better understand life choices of women. Individual women's perceptions of daily life scripts for a successful woman lawyer, a secretary, and a full time homemaker are used as data for predicting these women's own career aspirations. Predicted relationships were strongest for the lawyer scenario data.

Abstract Audiologists have a responsibility to counsel patients with auditory concerns on methods to manage the inherent challenges associated with hearing loss at every point in the process: evaluation, hearing aid fitting, and follow-up visits. Adolescents with hearing loss struggle with the typical developmental challenges along with communicative challenges that can erode one's self-esteem and self-worth. The feeling of “not being connected” to peers can result in feelings of isolation and depression. This article advocates the use of a Narrative Therapy approach to counseling adolescents with hearing loss. Adolescents with hearing loss often have problem-saturated narratives regarding various components of their daily life, friendships, amplification, academics, etc. Audiologists can work with adolescents with hearing loss to deconstruct the problem-saturated narratives and rebuild the narratives into a more empowering message. As the adolescent retells their positive narrative, they are likely to experience increased self-esteem and self-worth.
