A new compact planar notched ultrawideband (UWB) antenna is designed for wireless communication application. The proposed antenna has a compact size of0.182λ × 0.228λ × 0.018λwhereλis the wavelength of the lowest operating frequency. The antenna is comprised of rectangular radiating patch, ground plane, and an arc-shaped strip in between radiating patch and feed line. By introducing a new Tuning Fork-shaped notch in the radiating plane, a stopband is obtained. The antenna is tested and measured. The measured result indicated that fabricated antenna has achieved a wide bandwidth of 4.33–13.8 GHz (at −10 dB return loss) with a rejection frequency band of 5.28–6.97 GHz (WiMAX, WLAN, and C-band). The effects of the parameters of the antenna are discussed. The experiment results demonstrate that the proposed antenna can well meet the requirement for the UWB communication in spite of its compactness and small size.

The design of a three-port radiating structure, integrating wide and narrow band antennas for cognitive radio applications, is presented. It consists of a UWB antenna for spectrum sensing and two narrow band antennas for wireless communication integrated on the same substrate. The UWB antenna covers the complete UWB spectrum (3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz) approved by FCC. In the two narrow band antennas, each antenna presents dual bands. In particular, the first narrowband antenna resonates at 6.5 GHz, covering the frequency band between 6.36 GHz and 6.63 GHz, and at 9 GHz, covering the frequency band between 8.78 GHz and 9.23 GHz, presenting minimum return loss values of 28.3 dB at 6.5 GHz and 20.5 dB at 9 GHz, respectively. Similarly, the second one resonates at 7.5 GHz, covering the frequency band between 7.33 GHz and 7.7 GHz, and at 9.5 GHz, covering the frequency band between 9.23 GHz and 9.82 GHz, presenting minimum return loss values of 19.6 dB at 7.5 GHz and 28.8 dB at 9.5 GHz, respectively. Isolation among the three antennas is less than −20 dB over the UWB frequency spectrum. These antennas are realized on a FR4 substrate of dimensions 30 mm × 30 mm × 1.6 mm. Experimental results show a good agreement between the simulated and measured results.

This paper presents a novel resonator that can switch and create three important behaviors within the same antenna using miniaturized capacitors. The resonator was integrated into conventional Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) antenna to achieve UWB and Single/Dual continuously tunable-notch behaviors. The Single/Dual notched was continuously tuned to our desired frequency band by changing the value of the capacitors. The antenna designed and fabricated to validate these behaviors had a compact size of 24 × 30.5 mm2, including the ground plane. The radiation patterns were very clean due to the placement of the proposed resonator in the special ground plane. Moreover, the presented novel resonator and switching technique was compared with the recently proposed resonators and their switching techniques. The prototype for the antenna was also developed in order to validate its performance in wireless vital signs monitoring. The presented miniaturized resonator based antenna was utilized for tumor sensing and simulations were provided in this regard. Moreover, the deployment of the proposed resonator based UWB antenna sensor in Pipeline Integrity Monitoring system was also investigated and discussed.

This paper is presented a microstrip antenna with a zig-zag feeder for wireless communication, it has a wideband frequency spectrum (2-14) GHz. The proposed antenna is designed with a zig zag feed line which gave a wideband frequency and acceptable gain (7.448-5.928) dB, this antenna has zig zag slots printed in the ground plane on a lower side of the dielectric substrate, a certain form tuning stub is used to increase the matching between the feeder in the top layer of the substrate and ground plane in the bottom, this stub has an elliptical slot to performance matching input impedance with the feed line. The feeding technique used to feed this antenna is a strip feed line of 50 Ω. Different types of techniques are used to enhance the bandwidth of this antenna to get a wideband suitable for the requirements of the UWB antenna such as adjust the feed point position of the feed line with a tuning stub. All the radiation properties of the presented antenna are tested such as bandwidth, radiation pattern, and, gain.

A compact rectangular MS antenna for Ultra Wide Band applications is designed. In the proposed design the rectangular patch antenna designed with cutting a slot in ground of length and width 2.5mm and 3.0mm respectively at the back of feed line. By using the defective ground plane a wide BWof 9.782 GHz with frequency band 3.099 GHz to 12.278 GHz is achieved. The designed antenna with a compressed size of 30 mm x 30 mm is fabricated and tested. The antenna’s return loss and VSWR plots are presented here to confirm the complete UWB bands. Special configuration of patch antenna with slotted partial ground was designed and optimized using CST Microwave Studio.

AbstractIn this paper, a novel compact UWB antenna with variable notched band characteristics for UWB applications is presented. The designed antenna primarily consists of an adjusted elliptical shaped metallic patch and a partial ground plane. The proposed antenna has a compact size of only 17 × 17 mm2. The suggested antenna covers the frequency range from 3.1 GHz to 12 GHz. A single notched band has been achieved at 7.4 GHz with the aid of integrating a novel closed loop resonator at the back plane of the antenna. This notched band can be utilized to alleviate the interference impact with the downlink X-band applications. Besides, a square slot was cut in the loop in order to obtain a variable notched band. With the absence and the existence of this slot, the notched band can be varied to mitigate interference of the upper WLAN band (5.72–5.82 GHz) and X-band (7.25–7.75 GHz) with UWB applications. A good agreement between measurement and simulation results was achieved, which affirms the appropriateness of this antenna for UWB applications.

In this study, a coplanar waveguide-fed compact microstrip antenna design for applications operating at higher 5G bands was proposed. The antenna with the compact size of 8 x 12.2 mm2 on FR4 substrate, having the dielectric constant of 4.3 and the height of 1.55 mm, was considered. The dimensions of the radiating patch and ground plane were optimized with the use of artificial cooperative search (ACS) algorithm to provide the desired return loss performance of the designed antenna. The performance analysis was done by using full-wave electromagnetic package programs based on the method of moment (MoM) and the finite integration technique (FIT). The 10 dB bandwidth for return loss results obtained with the use of the computation methods show that the proposed antenna performs well for 5G applications operating in the 24.25 – 27.50 GHz, 26.50 – 29.50 GHz, 27.50 – 28.35 GHz and 37 – 40 GHz frequency bands.

A small antenna with single notch band at 3.5 GHz is designed for ultrawideband (UWB) communication applications. The fabricated antenna comprises a radiating monopole element and a perfectly conducting ground plane with a wide slot. To achieve a notch band at 3.5 GHz, a parasitic element has been inserted in the same plane of the substrate along with the radiating patch. Experimental results shows that, by properly adjusting the position of the parasitic element, the designed antenna can achieve an ultrawide operating band of 3.04 to 11 GHz with a notched band operating at 3.31–3.84 GHz. Moreover, the proposed antenna achieved a good gain except at the notched band and exhibits symmetric radiation patterns throughout the operating band. The prototype of the proposed antenna possesses a very compact size and uses simple structures to attain the stop band characteristic with an aim to lessen the interference between UWB and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) band.

A new metamaterial-based UWB band-notched textile antenna for body area network (BAN) with an operational frequency range of 3 GHz to 11 GHz is created in this paper. The ultra-ide band (UWB) frequency band is covered by the antenna (3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz). The antennas are smaller because of the usage of denim (jeans) material, which has a permittivity of 1.67. To increase the impedance transmission capacity, the ground plane is reduced to a partly rectangular conductive substance. The hexagonal cut on the bottom side is utilised to boost bandwidth by enhancing the electric field dispersion at the edges. The fabrication is built of a 1 mm thick denim (jeans) substrate, and the feed is a traditional microstrip feed. The return loss and gain characteristics of the proposed antenna are investigated. The performance of a specified antenna is investigated step by step with variable feed length, feed breadth, and substrate properties.
