Generally, AC-AC converters are implemented using thyristors. These converters generate harmonics and have a low power factor. To eliminate these problems matrix converters (MC) are become used as AC-AC converter. Matrix converters have the capability of being used as frequency changer, rectifier, inverter and chopper. In this work, it is proposed to achieve the desired output of AC-AC Boost converter using single phase matrix converter (SPMC). The operation of single-phase AC-AC boost converter using MC is studied in this paper. The output voltage of this boost converter is higher than the AC input supply voltage. insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) are used as the switching elements in the SPMC power circuit. Sinusoidal Pulse width modulation (SPWM) technique is applied to generate switching signals to obtain the output voltage. The model of the matrix converter is constructed in MATLAB/Simulink programming software package. The behavior of SPMC is simulated with various switching frequencies. The simulation results together with harmonic spectrum and total harmonic distortion (THD) values are presented. Successful operation of boost SPMC is achieved.

Abstract This paper deals with implementation of a single-phase three level converter system under low voltage condition. The frequency of the switches is made constant and involves change in ${t_{on}}$ and ${t_{off}}$ duration. For this condition the pulse width modulation control scheme for a single phase three level rectifier is developed to improve the power quality. The hysteresis current control technique is adopted to bring forth three-level PWM on the dc side of the bridge rectifier and to achieve high power factor and low harmonic distortion. Based on the proposed control scheme, the line current is driven to follow the sinusoidal current command which is in phase with the supply voltage. By using three-level voltage pattern the blocking voltage of each power device is clamped to half of the dc link voltage. The simulation and experimental results of 20W converter under low input voltage condition are shown to verify the circuit performance. Open loop simulation and hardware tests are implemented by applying a low voltage of 15 V(rms) on the input side.

The advantage of multilevel inverters is to produce high output voltage values with distortion as minimum as possible. To reduce total harmonic distortion (THD) and get an output voltage with different step levels using less power electronics switching devices, 15-level inverter is designed in this paper. Single-phase 11-switches with zero-level (ZL) and none-zero-level (NZL) inverter based on modified absolute sinusoidal pulse width modulation (MASPWM) technique is designed, modelled and built by MATLAB/Simulink. Simulation results explained that, multilevel inverter with NZL gives distortion percent less than that with ZL voltage. The THD of the inverter output voltage and current of ZL are 4% and 1%, while with NZL is 3.6% and 0.84%, respectively. These results explain the effectiveness of the suggested power circuit and MASPWM controller to get the required voltage with low THD.

<span>Researchers<strong> </strong>have found interest in the multilevel inverters (MLI) owing to the low total harmonic distortion (THD) associated with their output voltage, as well as their low electromagnetic interference (EMI). The MLI represents an effective and feasible solution for enhancing power demand and minimizing AC waveforms’ harmonics as they generate a preferred level of output voltage as inputs from varying levels of DC voltages. In this paper, the performance of a seven-level cascaded H-bridge MLI with an asymmetrical number of power switches was evaluated. The simulation performance is shown to validate the operating principle of the single-phase cascaded H-bridge inverter. To control the MLI, a pulse width modulation approach was utilized. The operating principle of the MLI was verified via simulation using PSIM software.</span>

We propose a high-performance and robust control of a transformerless, single-phase PV inverter in the standalone mode. First, modeling and design of a DC-DC boost converter using a nonlinear back-stepping control was presented. The proposed converter uses a reference voltage that is generated by the Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm in order to extract the maximum power point (MPP) by responding accurately to varying atmospheric conditions. Another goal for using the boost converter is to raise the voltage at the input of the inverter without using a transformer in this system, thus making the system more compact and less expensive. Secondly, the single-phase H-bridge inverter was controlled by using back-stepping control in order to eliminate the error between the output voltage of the inverter and the desired value, even if there is acute load variation at the output of the inverter. The stability of the boost converter and H-bridge inverter was validated by using Lyapunov’s stability theory. Simulation results show that the proposed PV system with back-stepping controllers has a good extraction of the MPP with an efficiency of 99.93% and 1 ms of response time. In addition, the sinusoidal form of the output voltage of the inverter is fixed to 220 V and the total harmonic distortion of the output voltage was found to be less than 1%.

<span>In this paper, modified multilevel inverter, via addition of an auxiliary bidirectional switch, based on Newton Raphson (NR) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) techniques is presented. The NR and PSO techniques were employed for selective harmonics elimination (SHE) solution in a modified Cascaded H Bridge Multilevel inverter (CHB-MLI). The Selective Harmonic Elimination Pulse-Width Modulation (SHE-PWM) is a powerful technique for harmonic minimization in multilevel inverter. The NR and PSO techniques were used to determine the switching angles by solving the non-linear equations of the output voltage waveform of the modified CHB-MLI in order to control the fundamental component and eliminate some low order harmonics. The proposed NR and PSO techniques are capable to minimize the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the output voltage of the modified inverter within allowable limits. This paper aims to modeling and simulation by MATLAB of the modified topology of the CHB-MLI for a single-phase prototype for 13-levels. The inverter offers less THD and greater efficiency using PSO control algorithm compared with the NR algorithm. <br https://server9.kproxy.com/servlet/redirect.srv/sruj/snbzofspy/skvyzff/p1/> The performance of the proposed controllers based on NR and PSO techniques is verified through simulation.</span>

<p>This work presents investigation of passive filter performance on three-phase inverter with 180° conduction mode. The simulation model of the inverter is developed by using MATLAB/Simulink. The power circuit used Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) as switching device. The inverter is controlled by using bipolar Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) technique. The IGBT was set to 25 kHz for switching frequency (fs). Three types of passive filters which are LC, RC and PI filters are used to investigate the ability to remove the unwanted signal that occurred on the inverter. The result is analyzed based on the performances of output filter in term of Total Harmonic Distortion in voltage (THDv), current (THDi), shape of output voltage and current. The THD must be less than 5% at rated inverter output voltage or current by referring to IEC 61727 Standard. The passive filter is modeled in MATLAB/Simulink environment to study the characteristics and performance of the filters.</p>

The main objective of this work is to model and simulate DC to DC Boost Converter using Single Phase Matrix Converter (SPMC) topology using MATLAB/Simulink (MLS). The output voltage is controlled by using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique. Four pairs of Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) is used as the switching device where for each pair, it is located in parallel and opposite direction. Safe commutation technique is performed in preventing voltage spike at the output. Through the simulation, at switching frequency of 25kHz, the model is able to step up its input voltage about two times larger and all of the results achieved a good agreement with the principle of four quadrant operation. It is also realized that without the implementation of safe commutation technique, spikes were generated and the model is unable to boost its input voltage. All of the selected results from the analysis which includes variation of quadrant, switching frequency, duty cycle and resistive load are presented in this paper.

In this paper, a modified Sinusoidal Pulse width Modulation (MSPWM) technique and a modified single-phase H-bridge seven-level inverter is proposed. The switching pulses for the proposed seven-level inverter are generated using a single triangular carrier waveform, a fully rectified sinusoidal signal, and three stepped reference signals (Uref1, Uref2 and Uref3). Using optimization technique, the magnitude of the stepped reference signal is determined so that the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output voltage waveform is minimum and the fundamental component, RMS value of the voltage is improved for a given modulation index Ma as compared to the Sinusoidal Pulse width Modulation (SPWM). By the implementation of the new scheme, the seven-level of the inverter output voltage level (+Vdc, +2Vdc/3, +Vdc/3, 0, −Vdc, −2Vdc/3, −Vdc) is obtained for any given modulation index. Similarly, if only two stepped reference signals are used then the inverter will act as a five-level inverter for any modulating index ma. The proposed MSPWM and seven-level inverter are simulated on MATLAB/SIMULINK for R, R-L load and on a single-phase capacitor-start and capacitor-start-run Induction Motor.

Simulation of single phase buck boost rectifier with reduced input current THD using single phase matrix converter topology is describing in this paper. Due to the bidirectional feather the operation for buck-boost rectifier can be made through matrix converter topology. And this is possible by the proper switching algorithm to control the switches for their boost and buck operation. The input current nature is almost sinusoidal with low current total current harmonics and the level of THD is below than limit that was defined in the standards of IEEE. With the proper variation in modulation index corresponding changes in the output voltage is observed of buck-boost rectifier. For the synthesis of the output voltage Pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is used. The simulation results using MATLAB/Simulink are providing to validate the feasibility of this proposed method
