The influence of aqueous extract from Lemna minor frond on morphological status of the thyroid gland in the experimental conditions of hypothyroidism in rats induced by administration of merkazolilum solution instead of drinking water for 30 days was studied. Thyreostatic merkazolilum resulted in changes of morphological structure of the thyroid gland, accompanied by manifestations of hyperplastic tissue proliferation and corresponds with hypofunctional state.The introduction of aqueous extract from Lemna minor frond resulted in positive influence on the restructuring of the thyroid gland in rats with hypothyroidism, increasing its functional activity. There was a decrease of proliferative processes of the epithelium and extrafollicular thyrocytes in follicles. The outer diameter of the follicles are not different from intact control, height follicular thyrocytes decreased compared with pathology by 41.08%. Iodomarin and L-thyroxine increased functional activity of the thyroid gland, but to a lesser degree than the aqueous extract from Lemna minor frond. L-thyroxine is not increased pharmacological effect of the studied extract. The results have practical significance for drugs development with thyroid-stimulating action.

The present work studied the effect of aqueous extract from duckweed Lemna minor frond on morphological state of the thyroid gland in the experimental hypothyroidism. Healthy albino rats weighing between 120 g and 150 g were used. The animalswere randomly allotted into four groups, each containing ten rats respectively. Three of the groups (II, III and IV) induced with hypothyroidism by 1 % solution of sodium perchlorate with drinking water for 20 days. Control (vehicle) rats were given normal saline. After 20 days hypothyroid groups (III and IV) of rats treated with aqueous extract from duckweed Lemna minor frond at a dose 0.5 ml/100 g of body weight and with Iodomarin 200 (reference drug) at a dose 12 µg/kg daily orally for 21 days. Results obtained from the study showed that the introduction of sodium perchlorate leads to morphological and functional changes in the structure of the thyroid gland in rats, accompanied by sings of hyperplastic tissue proliferation and corresponds with hypofunctional state. It was established that introduction of aqueous extract from duckweed Lemna minor frond has a positive effect on the restructuring of the thyroid gland in rats with hypothyroidism, increasing its functional activity. There is a decrease of proliferative processes by extrafolliсular epithelium and thyrocytes in the follicles. The outer diameter of follicles decreased by 7.65 % (P>0.05), the height and size of thyrocytes in the wall of the follicle were significantly decreased by 58.16 % and 18 41 %, respectively, compared to untreated hypothyroid group. The obtained results have practical significance for the development of drugs with thyroid-stimulating action for preventing or delaying the development of hypothyroidism and its complications.

Deep cervical fascia forms a connective tissue sheath around the thyroid gland. Delicate trabeculae and septa penetrate the gland indistinctly dividing the gland into lobes and lobules which in turn composed of follicles.1,2,3 These follicles are structural units of thyroid gland which varies greatly in size and shape.4 The number of follicles varies in different age groups. The study was carried out to see the percentage of area occupied by follicles in the stained section of thyroid glands in different age groups. The collected samples were grouped as A (3.5 – 20yrs), B (21- 40yrs) & C (41 – 78yrs). Context. Nigella sativa seeds are usually used as traditional medicine for a wide range of therapeutic purposes. Objective. To investigate the subacute toxicity of NS aqueous extract and select its lowest dose to study its antidiabetic effect. Methods. 5 AqE.NS doses (2, 6.4, 21, 33, and 60 g/Kg) were daily administered to mice by gavage. Biochemical parameters measurements and histological study of the liver and the kidney were performed after 6 weeks of supplementation. Thereafter, and after inducing diabetes by alloxan, rats were treated by 2 g/Kg of AqE.NS during 8 weeks. Metabolic parameters were measured on sera. A horizontal electrophoresis of plasmatic lipoprotein was conducted. Glycogen, total lipids, and triglycerides were measured in the liver. TBARS were evaluated on adipose tissue, liver, and pancreas. Results. AqE.NS showed no variation in urea and albumin at the 5 doses, but hepatotoxicity from 21 g/Kg was confirmed by histopathological observations of the liver. In diabetic rats, AqE.NS significantly decreased glycemia, TG, T-cholesterol, LDL-c, and TBARS and showed a restored insulinemia and a significant increase in HDL-c. Results on the liver indicated a decrease in lipids and a possible glycogenogenesis. Conclusion. AqE.NS showed its safety at low doses and its evident antihyperglycemic, antihyperlipidemic, and antioxidant effect.

Обоснование. В клинической практике регулярно встречаются ситуации, при которых невозможно взять кровь из периферических вен для проведения лабораторных анализов. При этом проблема сравнительной оценки показателей венозной и капиллярной крови остается недостаточно изученной. Цель. Провести сравнительную оценку 5 лабораторных показателей функции щитовидной железы – свободного Т3 (св.Т3), свободного Т4 (св.Т4), антител к тиреоглобулину (АТ-ТГ), антител к тиреопероксидазе (АТ-ТПО), тиреотропного гормона (ТТГ) – для выявления характера отклонений рассматриваемых параметров капиллярной крови от аналогичных показателей венозной. Методы. В исследование были включены 22 клинически здоровых добровольца обоих полов, единовременно сдавших для обследования образцы капиллярной и венозной крови с соблюдением правил преаналитики. Выполнение исследований производили в течение трех часов после взятия биоматериала на анализаторе Roche Cobas e601. Для всех показателей рассчитывали средние значения с 95% доверительным интервалом (ДИ), вычисленным процедурой бутстрепа. В парах значений показателей венозной и капиллярной крови рассчитывали их разность, которую выражали в относительных (в %) единицах. Для сравнения зависимых выборок также использовали критерий Уилкоксона для разностей пар и корреляционный анализ. Результаты. Для св.Т3 (среднее отклонение 3,11%; p < 0,001), св.Т4 (3,89%; p < 0,001), АТ-ТГ (2,73%; p = 0,041) и АТ-ТПО (6,75%; p < 0,001) продемонстрировано статистически значимое увеличение, а для ТТГ (-4,3%; p < 0,001) – снижение значений для образцов капиллярной крови по сравнению с аналогичными показателями венозной. Отклонение в пределах 5% в подавляющем большинстве случаев не имеет клинического значения при постановке диагноза и выборе терапии для пациента. Все рассмотренные показатели капиллярной крови обладают сильной корреляцией (r > 0,75) с аналогичными показателями венозной крови: для св.Т3 r = 0,971; св.Т4 – r = 0,993; АТ-ТГ – r = 0,958; АТ-ТПО – r = 0,836; ТТГ – r = 0,995. Заключение. Таким образом, показатели св.Т3, св.Т4 и ТТГ можно определять в капиллярной крови без какого-либо ущерба для точности клинической оценки при строгом соблюдении преаналитических правил, при этом для таких показателей как АТ-ТГ, АТ-ТПО данные отклонения могут иметь значение только при результатах, находящихся на верхней границе референсных интервалов.

To meet the requirement for high transparency of agar gel used in tissue culture, bacteriological applications, and high-quality cosmetics and food, this study on improving the transparency of agar products was carried out by using activated carbon for decolorization and perlite for aiding filtration. The results showed that the pre-coating filtration method was better than that of the mixed slurry filtration, so an orthogonal experiment optimization was conducted using the pre-coating filtration method based on the single factor experimental results. The experimental results showed that the optimal process conditions based on the transparency index were: concentration of agar of 1.30%, activated carbon dosage of 0.80%, processing temperature of 95 °C, and treatment time of 20 min. Agar products with gel transparency of 58.93% and blue-ray whiteness value of 93.82 could be obtained under these experimental conditions. The order of the factors influencing the decolorization ratio of agar was as follows: activated carbon dosage > concentration of agar > processing temperature > treatment time. The experimental results provided effective procession methods for the production enterprises based on transparency and increased economic benefits, and it was of practical significance.

SUMMARY Studies on cyclic activity of the thyroid and seasonal variations in oxygen consumption (V̇o2) under experimental conditions in which surfacing was either allowed or prevented were made in H. fossilis to try to establish a relationship between these measures and to ascertain the possible role of the thyroid in the regulation of metabolic rate. A good correlation was found between the activity of the thyroid and V̇o2 in this species. This finding was further confirmed by the administration of l-thyroxine or thiouracil to this fish. The thyroxine-and thiouracil-treated animals showed significantly higher (P < 0·05) and lower (P < 0·01) rates of V̇o2 respectively, thus indicating the probable role of the thyroid in the regulation of metabolic rate.
