Polymer-based nanocomposites have been broadly investigated to improve its specific properties such as thermal and mechanical properties to use in different application areas. In this study, we aimed to ameliorate the desired physical properties of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) by introducing various amounts of silver (Ag) and cobalt (Co) nanoparticles (NPs) in the polymer matrix. The arc-discharge method submerged in liquid nitrogen was performed to synthesize the metal NPs. To produce hybrid nanocomposites, we demonstrated embedding Ag:Co nanoparticles in the PVB matrix via easy/low-cost solution casting process without any additional materials. In the results of analysis for nanocomposites, it was observed that there were improvements in thermal, mechanical and microwave absorption characteristics of the PVB polymer with interaction of NPs with the polymer. As a result of these interactions, the hybridization of PVB with the metal NPs resulted in the improved thermal stability since the glass transition temperature was increased from 45.6 to 55.1 °C. Besides, while the tensile strength (σ) of the bare PVB film was calculated as 20.52 MPa, the strength of the corresponding tensile strength (σ) of 1.0 wt.% Ag:Co nanocomposite film was improved to 43.41 MPa. Moreover, in order to determine the effect of these changes on the radar absorption feature of nanocomposites, one-dimensional A-Scan measurements were performed on 2–18 GHz frequency band. In the results, it was observed that 1.0%.wt Ag:Co nanocomposite film absorbed approximately 90% of the incoming energy. The characterization results revealed that a positive synergetic effect raised in the case of the modification of the PVB matrix with both Ag and Co NPs. In the light of these data, it was understood that the characteristics of PVB were improved with the NPs combining, and the usage area of that will also increase thanks to this improvement. These regenerated properties made the hybrid nanocomposite a promising substrate material with considerable potential applications for various transparent, flexible, and portable surface coatings.

Based on microstructure evolution of Mg-20Al-0.8Zn magnesium alloys realized by semisolid isothermal heat-treatment (SSIT), we obtained the non-dendrite or spherical grains microstructure under the suitable technological parameters that isothermal temperature is 495 °C and holding time is 120 min. With the help of special experimental equipment, the semisolid die-casting process has been studied and the specimens have been analyzed. The effects of different parameters as injection speed and pressure on tensile strength, elongation rate, hardness, etc have been investigated. The results indicate that tensile strength was improved along with increasing injection speed and pressure. However, excessive speed will involve gas, which formed defects and reduced the mechanical properties. When the injection pressure is 40MPa and injection speed is 4m/s, the tensile strength and elongation rate can reach maximal 220MPa and 5.63% respectively. Its fracture mechanism was intercrystalline cracking.

In this research, an effort is made to familiarize and best potentials of the reinforcing agent in aluminum 7075 matrices with naturally occurring Beryl (Be) and Graphene (Gr) to develop a new hybrid composite material. A stir casting technique was adopted to synthesize the hybrid nanocomposites. GNPS were added in volume fractions of 0.5wt%, 1wt%, 1.5wt%, and 2wt% and with a fixed volume fraction of 6 wt.% of Beryl. As cast hybrid composites were microstructurally characterized with scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Microstructure study through scanning electron microscope demonstrated that the homogeneous distribution reinforcement Beryl and GNPs into the Al7075 matrix. Brinell hardness and tensile strength of synthesized materials were investigated. The hybrid Al7075-Beryl-GNPs composites showed better mechanical properties compared with base Al7075 matrix material. The ascast Al7075-6wt.% Beryl-2wt.%GNPs showed 49.41% improvement in hardness and 77.09% enhancement in ultimate tensile strength over Al7075 alloy.

ABSTRACTHybrid materials based on polysiloxanes and metal oxides (SiO2, TiO2, ZrO2) were prepared by hydrosilation of allyl acetoacetate (AAA) modified metal alkoxides (M(OR)4; M = Ti, Zr; R = ethyl, isopropyl) or vinyl triethoxysilane with poly(dimethylsiloxane-co-hydrosiloxane) (PDMS-co-PMHS). The obtained compounds acted as single-source precursors in the sol-gel process. Various spectroscopic methods showed the complete functionalization of the polysiloxane chains with the complexes. When alcohols were used as solvents in the sol-gel process, hybrid nanoparticles were obtained, as observed by dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and spectroscopic methods such as NMR and FT-IR.

Aluminum alloy is widely used in automotive, aerospace and other engineering industries because of its excellent mechanical properties. The main objective is to enhance 6061 Al alloy’s mechanical properties by producing 6061-B4C composite through squeeze casting process. Experimentation was carried out with different micron sizes and weight fraction of B4C particles. The mechanical properties of reinforced metal matrix were experimentally investigated in terms of Ultimate Tensile Strength and Hardness. We observe that these two properties are improved by the reinforcement of B4C particles and applied squeeze pressure.

The present work investigates the mechanical characterization of aluminium alloy (AA) 6061 based hybrid nanometal matrix composites (MMCs) fabricated using conventional stir casting process. Two compositions viz., AA6061+1.5 wt.% B4C+0.5 wt.% SiC (Hybrid A) and AA6061+1.5 wt.% B4C+1.5 wt.% SiC (Hybrid B) was prepared and its mechanical properties such as microhardness, tensile, compressive, flexural and impact strength were investigated to compare with unreinforced AA6061. SiC and B4C ceramic particles (purity 99.89%) of average particle size of 50 nm were used as reinforcements. Significant enhancement in microhardness of 30.2% and 31.02% for hybrid A and B are observed respectively. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) increased by 10.72% and 16.55% for hybrid A and B respectively. Improved interaction because of the enhanced surface to volume ratio at the interface resulted in improvement of mechanical properties. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) of the fractured surface shows brittle fracture because of the incorporation of the ceramic reinforcements in the matrix material. The developed AA6061/SiC/B4C hybrid nanocomposites show improved mechanical properties for high-performance structural applications.
