A consultation model, implemented over a two-year period, in a regular elementary school, is described. In addition, data are reported indicative of how consultant's spent their time, and of the outcomes of consultation for each case served. The model includes procedures for systematizing the consultation process, making it data-based and accountable. Problems encountered in implementing consultation in public school settings are discussed.

Practitioners have at their disposal many empirically validated strategies for managing aggressive behavior. In addition, the legal and ethical implications of these techniques have received considerable professional attention. An exception to this is the use of manual restraint. Data suggest the use of this procedure is common in public school settings; however, a comprehensive discussion of its legal and ethical implications has yet to emerge. The purpose of this paper is to review the advantages and disadvantages associated with manual restraint and to present procedural and ethical guidelines governing its use in the public schools.

The almost instantaneous access to information provided by technological advances has revolutionized the behavior of people and of the classrooms too. Teachers had to adapt themselves to new technologies to maintain students interested and attentive to the discipline being taught. In this work, the behavior of the students of the 6th grade of elementary school II during class was observed. The school chosen is a public school in the State of São Paulo (Brazil). The research was based on data collection. The students were observed by being filmed during six months. The results showed that the students were interested in the classes and committed to the activities. The place that the student chooses to sit in the classroom influences the behavior of the teacher, because the more distant the teacher, the less he participates in the class.

The findings from a survey of public school programs for behaviorally disordered children are presented suggesting that a majority considered their theoretical focus to be behavioral. If a majority of university teacher-training programs in behavior disorder also consider their primary theoretical focus to be behavioral as previous research suggested, then the two would appear to complement each other. Another portion of the survey, however, indicated that the pragmatic approaches to treatment found in public school behavior disorders programs cover techniques reflecting a wide variety of theoretical models. Consequently, there exists a mismatch which prevents maximum effectiveness in both teacher training and service delivery for behaviorally disordered children. It was concluded that university teacher training programs should reflect a more eclectic stance by carefully synthesizing assorted theoretical components into a composite which meets the diverse pragmatic demands of public school programs for behaviorally disordered children.1

Objective: We developed categories of the degree of restrictiveness of public schoolboards’ face mask policies in 10 US states that had no statewide mask mandates at any time during the COVID-19 pandemic. We collected data on schoolboards’ mask wearing policies for the individual boards in these states. Methods: We obtained school reopening plans found on school district webpages. We abstracted district mask policies and sorted them into groups indicating whether mask wearing was required or recommended. Results: Overall, 44% of boards mandated masks in school settings. There was a wide variation of policies within and between states. Conclusions: When left to their own resources, schoolboards will follow a variety of policies, many of which are a departure from state recommendations.
