Transnational motherhood continues to grow among Filipina mothers. It resulted in economic prosperity and quality of life of Filipino families but caused family pressures within the sphere of motherhood. This qualitative study is grounded through the philosophical lens of phenomenology aimed to explore the lived experiences of transnational mothers. It seeks to understand their life history, present experiences that redefined their motherhood, and reflections of the future. The lived experiences of transnational mothers began with the experience of the personal and structural dimensions of poverty in the past. Their decision to embark on labor migration was primarily instrumental to alleviate their life condition. However, mothering from a distance has ensued emotional, social, and psychological strains. To cope with the situation, they observed four central coping ways: the role of faith and prayer; the repression of emotional strains through work and friends; focus and positive thinking; and the rationalization of distance by way of regular virtual communication and remittances. The hopes of transnational mothers revealed their yearning for family reunification predicated on improving their family life through financial security, savings, and children's education. This intersection between motherhood and labor migration has therefore created new family forms, structures, roles, meaning, and expectations.

Due to the increasing popularity of websites specializing in nature documentation, there has been a surge in the number of people enthusiastic about observing and documenting nature over the past 2 decades. These citizen scientists are recording biodiversity on unprecedented temporal and spatial scales, rendering data of tremendous value to the scientific community. In this study, we investigate the role of citizen science in increasing knowledge of global biodiversity through the examination of notable contributions to the understanding of the insect suborder Auchenorrhyncha, also known as true hoppers, in North America. We have compiled a comprehensive summary of citizen science contributions—published and unpublished—to the understanding of hopper diversity, finding over fifty previously unpublished country and state records as well as dozens of undescribed and potentially undescribed species. We compare citizen science contributions to those published in the literature as well as specimen records in collections in the United States and Canada, illuminating the fact that the copious data afforded by citizen science contributions are underutilized. We also introduce the website Hoppers of North Carolina, a revolutionary new benchmark for tracking hopper diversity, disseminating knowledge from the literature, and incorporating citizen science. Finally, we provide a series of recommendations for both the entomological community and citizen science platforms on how best to approach, utilize, and increase the quality of sightings from the general public.

Abstract During the past three decades, many countries have lifted restrictions on cross-border financial transactions. We present a simple model that can account for the observed effects of financial globalization. The model emphasizes the role of imperfect enforcement of domestic debts and the interactions between domestic and foreign debts. Financial globalization can lead to a variety of outcomes: (i) domestic capital flight and ambiguous effects on net capital flows, investment, and growth; (ii) capital inflows and higher investment and growth; or (iii) volatile capital flows and unstable domestic financial markets. The model shows how the effects of financial globalization depend on the level of development, productivity, domestic savings, and the quality of institutions.

During the past two decades a great deal has been learned about the role of physicians in generating medical costs and about ways of changing physicians' behavior so as to reduce those costs (8;10;19;30;34). Unfortunately, very little is known about how cost reductions affect the quality of care.

The adoption of endometrial cytology as a diagnostic procedure has been hampered in the past by difficulties arising in interpreting the cellular findings due to a number of factors (such as excess blood, cellular overlapping, and the complex physiology of endometrium). Recently, the use of liquid-based cytology (LBC), with its ability to remove blood and mucus and to distribute cells uniformly in a thin layer on the slide, has provided an opportunity to reevaluate the role of endometrial cytology. LBC samples are easier to screen compared to conventional ones, due to a smaller screening area and an excellent quality of cell preparations. LBC by using peculiar cytoarchitectural features is a useful tool in the cellular diagnosis and follow-up of abnormalities, which, however, remains complementary to histopathology and to the emerging molecular diagnostic cytopathology. This review discusses these various entities and takes into consideration the ancillary techniques that may be useful in the diagnostic procedure. Herein, we also summarize the process and rationale by which updates were made to the standardized terminology in 2018 and outline the contents of the new Bethesda-style classification (the Yokohama system) for the endometrial cytology.

As in every other domain of art, in contemporary mural painting it is possible to indicate great projects and realizations as well as failures. However, many examples confirm the thesis of an especially significant role of depicting in architectural and urban space. After all, like in other kinds of painting, the main feature here is the talent of an artist. Artistic quality of depicting in architectural scale is so important because of its aesthetical, ethical and education role. It is hard to answer the question about the future of mural paintings and the role of the new media of transmitting color and illusion in architectural space. Nowadays, in the time of instant development of science and technology, increasing tempo of life and continuous need of changes, it may turn out that the digital and hologram pictures better fulfil the expectation of the present recipient. It is not unlikely that the practical values of these techniques – their energetic and light features – might cause the elimination of traditional wall paintings which have accompanied architecture for so many ages. On the other hand, we could observe in the present culture evident “retro” tendencies – the growth of interest in the past, the recognition of traditional forms of expression, and a desire for their continuation. Materiality, touchable texture, and some mysterious load of energy executed by artists in traditional techniques are the elements acting to the advantage of old- fashioned painted walls.

Abstract. In the community historical objects play the role of witnesses of the past history. This creates an obligation to preserve and reconstruct them for future generations. Photogrammetric methods have been applied for those purposes for many years. In the process of development of inventory documentation, the key aspects related to the selection of appropriate measuring methods for particular objects and the creation of appropriate working conditions. At present, digital measuring techniques allow developing 3D photogrammetric documentation which is particularly valuable both, for conservators of historical objects, as well as for creating virtual museums. Particular attention should be paid to the utilisation of macro photography for that purpose which allows for recreating small fragments of historical details. The objective of this paper is to present possible use of macro photography for inventory of historical patterns engraved in brick walls of one of the cellars of the Royal Castle in Warsaw (Poland); they are called engravings or house marks. The cellar walls were made of bricks (20×10cm) on the stone foundations, where a prison was located in the 17th century. Prisoners left their drawings of signs and crests. Bricks are destroyed, some of them are moss-grown, so many engravings are hardly visible and their depths vary between 3 and 5mm. The Canon 5D Mark II camera with the 50 mm macro lens was used to inventory engravings together with the shadow-free flash, mounted on the lens and a special frame with bolts, being the photogrammetric control network. To ensure the high quality of the 3D model, a network of photographs were acquired from two different distances; they were processed with the use of SfM/MVS algorithms implemented in Agisoft PhotoScan software. The aim of this paper is to discusses the impact of selection of control points on the accuracy of the orientation process, the impact of the point cloud density on correct projection of the digital surface, the influence of the DSM resolution on details of projection of shapes and selection of orthorectification and mosaicking parameters on the accuracy of orthoimage generation.

Abstract During the past quarter century, federal health policy makers concerned themselves with: (a) improving the quality of healthcare delivered to the American public; (b) increasing access to needed healthcare services; and (c) curtailing the escalating cost of such services. These goals led Congress to expand the role of the federal government in regulating the delivery of healthcare. The enactment of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA '88) was a significant and widely discussed example of how Congress, when controlled by the Democrats, sought to correct healthcare problems and achieve federal objectives. In November 1994, the Republicans won majorities in both the Senate and the House, promising to reduce the federal government's power. Many now believe that CLIA '88, or significant parts of it, could be substantially modified as part of this effort. This paper addresses the developments that led the Democrats to seek enactment of CLIA '88 and the likely arguments that may be offered by the Republicans to lessen the rigor and scope of the law.
