The ketogenic diet (KD), a restrictive diet, is mainly characterized by high-fat content, low or no carbohydrate content, and low or normal protein content. This review aimed to address the main syndromes or diseases in which the therapeutic use of KD can be beneficial. One of the main clinical indications of KD has been, for some time, in the treatment of epilepsy refractory to the use of medications, with satisfactory results in the control of seizures. Recently, studies have addressed the metabolism of ketone bodies caused by KD, in the adjuvant treatment of tumors and endocrine disorders, such as diabetes and obesity, with promising results. In this work, the therapeutic aspect of KD was analyzed, as an aid in the control of pre-existing diseases, and that being a very restrictive diet with controversial effects, its use may be limited and it is not advisable to maintain it for long periods or without the proper follow-up.

The relevance of the presented article is determined by the possibility to analyze at the theoretical level the prevalence of psychopathological manifestations in the behavior of athletes, the reasons of which can be different spectra of neurotic disorders. The article provides a theoretical justification for the need to create a methodology for conducting corrective measures using Gestalt-therapeutic techniques for athletes who are in a state of neurotic disorder in order to improve their training in the pre-competition period. The possibilities of Gestalt-therapy in correcting behavior that occurs due to neurotic personality development in society are studied. The main principles of psychotherapeutic work (Gestalt-therapy, Gestalt-counseling) are considered, which describe important key points of working with neuroses. The possibilities of Gestalt-therapy in the correction of mental state are investigated. Preventive and corrective methods of work on the correction of neurotic states by Gestalt therapy techniques are proposed.

The human body harbors ten times more bacterial cells than human cells. These bacterial cells form the human microbiome that plays a vital role in human health. An imbalance in the gut microbiome (i.e., dysbiosis) can result in various pathological conditions. This dysbiosis can be refurbished with the supplement of “probiotics.” Probiotics have thus been defined as non-pathogenic micro-organisms that, when ingested, exert a positive influence on host health or physiology. The most commonly used probiotic bacteria comes from two genera: Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Various research findings have proposed a correlation between the alteration of microbiota (composition/activity/density) with disorders like infectious diarrhea, inflammatory bowel diseases, obesity, to name a few. The ultimate effect of administration of probiotics on health or physiology is either direct or indirect. This chapter summarizes the concept of probiotics, their therapeutic aspect along with possible mechanism of action.
