The 15-item Positive Career Goal Discrepancy Scale was developed to assess emerging adults’ appraisals of the extent to which their current career progress exceeds their set career goals. We generated 32 items based on a literature review, focus groups, and expert reviews, used EFA ( N = 244, M age 18.7 years; 65% women) to reduce the number of items, and CFA ( N = 254, M age 18.7 years; 68% women) to confirm the factor structure and demonstrate superior reliability at the total score level (ω reliability = .91). Validity testing demonstrated that the scale was distinct from a measure of negative career goal discrepancy and related, as expected, to constructs in the nomological net: correlated positively with career satisfaction and optimism, and negatively with negative career goal discrepancy. The scale is a useful addition to the career literature and is likely to stimulate research into positive career goal progress in young people.

IntroductionHealth literacy research has focused predominantly on the adult population, and much less is understood about this concept from an adolescent perspective. The tools currently available to measure adolescent health literacy have been adapted from adult versions. This limits their applicability to young people because of the developmental characteristics that impact on adolescents’ behaviour, including impulse control and judgement skills. This protocol describes the intended development and validity testing of a questionnaire to measure health literacy in adolescents.Methods and analysisThis protocol describes this mixed methods study that has three phases: the first phase will involve grounded research with adolescents using qualitative group interviews, co-design and concept mapping workshops to understand what health and healthy behaviours mean to adolescents and to explore their health literacy needs and the potential domains for the questionnaire. The draft health literacy domains identified will be presented to the youth advisory panel, and the questionnaire will be altered based on their feedback. Cognitive pretesting of the questionnaire items will also be conducted. Phase 2 will involve piloting the questionnaire to a two-stage random sample of young people in five urban and rural schools in Ireland. Test–retest reliability will be conducted using Pearson correlation coefficient. Confirmatory factor analysis will also be conducted to analyse the psychometric properties of the questionnaire. Phase 3 will involve the questionnaire being rolled out to a nationally representative sample of adolescents (n=6052) in Ireland to assess their levels of health literacy.Ethics and disseminationEthical approval to conduct this study has been granted from the University College Dublin Human Research Ethics Committee – Sciences (LS-20–08). Informed assent from adolescents and informed consent from parents/guardians will be sought. The findings of this research will be disseminated at national and international conferences, as well as through publication in peer-reviewed journals.

The widespread use of social media has promoted extensive academic research on this channel. The present study conducts a systematic analysis of extant research on social media use among young people in China. This systematic literature review aims to identify and bridge gaps in topics, theories, variables, and conceptual frameworks in studies of social media usage among young people in China. The study aims to develop a cause–effect framework that shows the causal relationships among research structures. The PRISMA method is used to review 20 articles drawn from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. From the analysis, 10 major research topics, eight theories or models, and a complete framework of causal relations emerge. It is recommended that future research on social media should include a greater diversity of types of social media, investigate a wider range of research topics, and adopt different theories or models. Researchers should also implement a more complete and detailed systematic method for reviewing literature on social media research in China.

Background. In modern society, there is an intensive increase in the incidence of arterial hypertension among young people, which is mainly due to lifestyle characteristics and related risk factors.Objective: to analyze the results of scientific researches of domestic and foreign authors regarding the study of risk factors in the development of arterial hypertension in children.Material and methods. A qualitative analysis of the current literature data on the risk factors for arterial hypertension and its prevention has been carried out.Results. It has been established that the occurrence of arterial hypertension in childhood is due to not only hereditary, but also a number of environmental risk factors.Conclusions. Further researches are needed to study new and established risk factors that must be considered when conducting primary prevention of the disease in children at high risk.

Abstract Children’s rights are set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. This systematic literature review aimed to investigate children’s views of children’s rights, at a broad level. Nine papers were included, from a range of countries and contexts. They all accessed the views of children and young people (aged up to 18 years). A content analysis was carried out using a recursive process of hybrid aggregative-configurative synthesis, and themes within children’s views and factors that may affect these were identified. These were ‘awareness of rights’, ‘value placed on (importance of) rights’, ‘impact of having/not having rights fulfilled’, ‘realisation and respect of rights’, ‘equality of rights’, ‘identifying and categorising of rights’, and ‘factors that may affect children’s views’. These were developed into a progression of rights realisation and implications for practice and further research were considered.

Pagrindiniai tyrimo uždaviniai – įvertinti, kaip ketinimą eiti pasirinktu profesiniu keliu prognozuoja pasitenkinimo pasirinkta profesija lygis, įsivaizduojamas realaus ir idealaus bei realaus ir prestižinio darbo atitikimas bei asmenybės ypatumai (neurotizmas ir sąmoningumas), ir palyginti, kuo skiriasi abiejų imčių ketinimo eiti pasirinktu profesiniu keliu prielaidos.Dviejų imčių – nepatenkintųjų pasirinkta profesija (n = 55) ir patenkintųjų pasirinkta profesija (n = 76) – hierarchinės regresijos analizė parodė, kad šių imčių ketinimo eiti pasirinktu profesiniu keliu prielaidos yra nevienodos. Prognozuojant ketinimą eiti pasirinktu profesiniu keliu pirmuoju atveju reikšmingi kintamieji yra pasitenkinimo pasirinkta profesija lygis, realaus ir prestižinio darbo atitikimas ir neurotizmo lygis. Antruoju atveju gautas vyraujantis kintamasis – pasitenkinimo pasirinkta profesija lygis. Previous studies have revealed numerous factors that are relevant for the process of career planning during various stages of life. The constantly changing and challenging world, as well as the demand of new competencies in the labour market, draw attention to the time when an individual leaves school and sets future career goals preparing to enter the world of work. There is still an open question which psychological factors could be crucial for the smooth career goal setting at this time.The present study aims to explore one’s future career intentions after one has already chosen a study major. The study had the following goals: to analyse whether career choice commitment (having future career goals related to one’s major) can be predicted by the level of career choice satisfaction, expected real-ideal and real-prestigious job fit, and personality factors such as neuroticism and conscientiousness, conducting analysis in two samples; to explore the differences of the predictors of career goal commitment between Sample 1 and Sample 2.185 Vilnius University undergraduates (131 females, 54 males) took part in the study. The primary sample was then subdivided into two parts, excluding the middle range data: Sample 1 consisted of participants whose career choice satisfaction was low (n = 55), and Sample 2 consisted of participants whose career choice satisfaction was high (n = 76). A two-step hierarchical regression model analysis was run in both samples. The results revealed multiple significant predictors of career choice commitment in Sample 1: the level of career choice satisfaction (low level in this sample), expected real-prestigious job fit, and, to a lesser extent, expected real-ideal job fit were significant predictors in the primary regression model. Adding neuroticism and conscientiousness to the regression model significantly changed it by increasing its R2, although only neuroticism was a significant predictor. On the contrary, in Sample 2, the level of career choice satisfaction (high in this sample) was the dominant predictor of career choice commitment, followed only by expected real-prestigious jog fit. Adding personality variables to the model didn’t produce a significant change in this case. The results provide the basis for further theoretical and practical implications in career counselling and set guidelines for the future research.Keywords: career planning, vocational choice, outcome expectations, personality factors.

Abstract This review aimed to systematize the studies on sexting and gender violence published between 2000 and 2016 in national and international journals. The search was performed in the databases - BVS-Psi, Psychlit, Medline, LILACS, and Oasis. We found 383 articles. After applying the exclusion criteria, 21 articles were analyzed. The results showed that sexting is not an a priori risk factor. The risk is related to variables such as the content of the messages, when it expresses violence, and age of the practitioners, indicating that the younger the age the greater the risk. It has been found that there are modalities related to gender violence, such as revenge pornography and slut-shaming, but these contents are not inherent to sexting.

This chapter focuses on family as a key institutional setting within which religion and spirituality are formed. The authors explore how marriage and parenthood are tied to religiousness among the young people in the study. The authors first investigate the role of religion in leading young people to six different family pathways: married with children, married without children, cohabiting with children, cohabiting without children, single with children, and single without children. They then examine how these different stages of family formation affect the religious lives of the young people in the study. Of particular interest is the question of whether marriage and parenthood contribute to higher rates of religious retention among emerging adults.

As there was no existing, psychometrically sound scale that directly assessed the discrepancies that young people experience between individual-set career goals and parent-set career goals, we developed and provided initial validation for a 15-item scale for use with young adults. In Study 1, items were developed, reviewed by experts, and administered to a sample of first year, undergraduate Indonesian students ( N = 426, M age = 18.42 years). We used exploratory factor analysis to reduce the number of items and assess the factor structure and used confirmatory factor analyses on a holdout sample to assess this underlying structure. We then provided evidence for construct validity. Recommendations for use in research and practice are discussed.
