This article contributes towards debates concerning media tourism and tour guiding by using Pierre Bourdieu’s arguments regarding field and capital to analyse performed tour guide identities on BBC Worldwide’s Doctor Who Experience Walking Tour in Cardiff Bay. The article pursues three core arguments: first, a Bourdieusian framework provides an enhanced understanding of the insecure positions that tour guides occupy in what is referred to throughout as the tourism field; second, the divergent pulls between heteronomous and autonomous poles which position tour guides are magnified in officially-located media tours because of the presence of branding and theming discourses; third, drawing upon empirical data from the Doctor Who tour, the symbolic capital of official guides involves demonstrations of what is named tourism-cultural capital, but such displays do not result in an increase in individualised status as any accrued capital transfers to the institutional level.

A professional tour guide is regarded as a front-liner of the tourism and the ambassador of his/her country. Therefore, the performace of a tour guide is very important as a quality assurance of services in order to fulfill the tourists’ satisfaction.  One of the important things to satisfy the tourists is through mastering the language, because if the tour guide speaks the language fluently and accurately, the commucation will be well maintained and all information can be successfully delivered. In this case, mastering Russian language, which is categorized into one of the latest foreign languages in the tourism business of Bali, is deemly needed by the Russian tourists in order to get sufficient information about the culture of the indigenous community. This study aimes at investigating the mastery level of the tour guide’s Russian language related to the struggle of symbolic capital between foreign representatives and local tour guides. By applying a descriptive qualitative research, the data was collected through observation, interview, and document review. The theory used to undertake this study is Bourdieu’s social practice theory which involves capital, habitus, and field. The data that has been classified is analyzed by qualitative descriptive method with an inductive-metodological paradigm which is seting up the discussion from particular principles to the general in order to obtain a conclusion. The result of data analys is presented by formal and informal method. The study reveals that the mastery of Russian language for a professional tour guide has been proven to compete with foreign tour guides in preserving the Balinese culture and empowering local community in tourism participation. Indonesia is one of the tourist destinations to be visited by tourists because it has many attractive tourist attractions. One of the tourist destinations is Jakarta, which has historical heritage buildings in Kota Tua or the Old City. Tourists who visit these objects can learn about the history of Jakarta City. However, not all tourists, especially foreign tourists, understand the historical story of the Old City, so to explain to tourists, tour guide services are needed. In the Old City there is a Tour guide community, namely Jakarta GoodGuide which was established specifically to introduce the Kota Tua of Jakarta. This research aims to analyze the communication strategy used by JakartaGoodGuide to increase public awareness of the tourist attraction of Kota Tua, Jakarta. The research used qualitative method through interview and observation techniques. The results showed that the communication strategy was carried out by JakartaGoodGuide used persuasive communication, casual words, structured communication, and pictures during the walking tour.  Abstrak Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara yang memiliki banyak daerah tujuan wisata untuk dikunjungi wisatawan, karena memiliki banyak daya tarik wisata yang menarik. Salah satu daerah tujuan wisata tersebut adalah Jakarta yang memiliki daya tarik bangunan peninggalan sejarah di Kota Tua. Wisatawan yang mengunjungi objek tersebut dapat mempelajari sejarah Kota Jakarta. Namun tidak semua wisatawan, khususnya wisatawan mancanegara mengerti jalan cerita sejarah Kota Tua, maka untuk menjelaskan kepada wisatawan tersebut diperlukan jasa tourguide. Di Kota Tua terdapat komunitas tourguide, yaitu JakartaGoodGuide yang didirikan khusus untuk memperkenalkan Kota Tua Jakarta. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis tentang strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh JakartaGoodGuide untuk meningkatkan awareness publik terhadap daya tarik wisata Kota Tua, Jakarta. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitaif melalui teknik wawancara dan pengamatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, strategi komunikasi yang dilakukan JakartaGoodGuide menggunakan komunikasi persuasif, menggunakan kata-kata ringan, komunikasi terstruktur, dan juga menggunakan alat bantu foto atau gambar pada saat walking tour berlangsung.

The purpose of this research is to understand and explain the discourse and practice of commodifying the usada Bali and negotiating the balian atmosphere in relation to economic interests. The method used is critical ethnography with qualitative analysis. This study found that the practice of commodifying usada Bali by balian was done by manipulating cultural capital, symbolic capital, and economic capital in the domains and dynamics of the habitus of usada Bali treatment to achieve economic goals. In medical practice, the balian people conduct negotiations in the gymnasium as a professional code of ethics in the midst of increasingly tighter competition in medical services. The findings of this study reflect the occurrence of mutual transformation in the practice of Balinese usada medicine due to the hegemony of modernity.

Tour guide has an importan role in tourism activities. It can be seen from the function of a tour guide as such are conduits for privileged 'inside' information on the tourist destination. The purpose of this study is to find out how the tourist perception to the quality service of tour guide in Bali.Data collection techniques used in this research is a questionnaire and literature study for determine this sample was using purposive sampling by gave questionnaires to 400 respondents. The data was analysis used descriptive quantitative. There are two types of respondents, domestic tourists numbered 263 respondents and foreign tourists numbered 137 respondents, each divided according to the proportional 0.05. This study used five variables and consists of twenty indicators.Data collection techniques used in this research is questionnaires and literature study. In determining the sample was using purposive sampling by distributed questionnaires to 400 respondents. Data analysis techniques used in descriptive quantitative. There are two types of respondents domestic tourists amounted to 263 respondents and foreign tourists numbered 137 respondents, each divided according to the proportional 0.05. This study uses five variables and consists of twenty indicators.The results of this research is the tourist perception overall consisting of domestic and foreign tourists can be concluded, tourists perception of the tour guides service quality in Bali is already very good.

Tourists who visit Trench Town are drawn in by the neighborhood’s rich musical heritage. They want to see the birthplace of reggae and witness the circumstances depicted in many famous Jamaican songs. Knowingly venturing into marginalized territory, into the “ghetto,” travelers expect to encounter spectacular forms of violence. Yet what the walking tour of Trench Town reveals is an experience of another kind, an excursion that exposes poverty as structural violence, and that points to the historical and political struggles that are constitutive of the area’s social fabric. In this article, drawing on an ethnographic vignette of a walking tour that starts in Bob Marley’s rehearsal grounds and ends by an empty plot locally known as “No Man’s Land,” I focus on the entanglements of violence and tourism and present the discrepancy that exists between touristic desires and the reality of the tourism commodity. This analysis reveals how residents of Trench Town simultaneously choose to address and disregard different (un)spectacular forms of violence during the tourism encounter and I argue that in so doing, local tour guides productively leverage violence to denounce and grapple with structural and historical brutalities.

Abstract Translation review, as book review on translated works, aims to introduce, recommend and review translated works. In China, while great achievements were made in translation criticism since the 1990s, translation review was quantitatively understudied in translation studies, though it is, as a social practice, more practical and enjoys wider readership. Based on Bourdieu’s sociological theory of practice, namely, field, capital and habitus, this paper examines translation reviews in China Reading Weekly from 2010 to 2014 and argues that China fails to establish a translation field of its own, and translation review in China is subject to the multiple influences of the economic and cultural capital of the country, the symbolic capital of translators and reviewers, and the cultural capital and habitus of reviewers. The paper also puts forward some suggestions for the development of translation review in the future.
