Evaluation of Wound Healing Activity of Sea Cucumber Holothuria parva Hydroalcoholic Extract in Rat

A significant challenge in biomedicine is the development of Biomaterials with the potential to accelerate wound healing. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the gel prepared from sea cucumber on wound healing in rats. Full-thickness wounds were created in male rats divided into five experimental groups, negative control (NC), positive control (PC), and treatments. The NC and PC groups received respectively gel base and phenytoin cream 1%. Treatment groups were treated topically by gels of 1%, 3%, and 5% Holothuria parva extract (HPE) in the gel base. The rats were sacrificed on days 7, 14, and 21. Pathological reports revealed the proliferation of keratinocytes in the borders of the wound in treatment groups and controls. Formation of granulation tissue was seen on day 7 in treatment groups, collagen fibers in granulation tissue were randomly organized, and the rate of fibroblast decreased. Results showed that there were statistically significant differences in wound contraction between all groups in comparison to the NC group ( P < .05) on day 8. It was concluded that the 1% HPE gel has a good potential for promoting wound healing. [Formula: see text]

<p><em><em>Bananas have many types and benefits. One of them is the Yellow Kepok Banana. Banana stem, leaf midrib, and corm contain phytochemicals compound as medicinal properties. The study aimed to determine the effect of the yellow kepok banana corm extract formula as an anti-inflammatory. Banana corm was cut into 0.3 x 1 x 3 cm pieces, dried in the oven with temperature 60 °C for 6 hours, then made 40 mesh powder. The powder extracted using 70 % ethanol by maceration technique for 24 hours, repeated three times. Anti-inflammatory testing was carried out on male </em>Sprague Dawley<em> white rats. A total of 24 white rats were divided into six treatment groups, consists of </em><em>different concentrations of the extract (10, 15, and 20 %), positive control (commercial ointment), negative control, and a normal control (giving a wound without being given any formula). The experiment was designed as a randomized complete, with four replications, data were analyzed using ANOVA and the </em>Post Hoc Games Howell Test<em>. The results showed that the yellow kepok banana extract formula had the potential for wound healing. The 20 % extract formula can accelerate wound healing in a day than the 10 and 15 % formulas. The  speed  is  shown  by  wound  healing  without  scars  from  the   20 %</em> <em>extract formula, which  occurs  earlier  than other formulas. The anti-inflammatory activity of the 20 % formula was comparable to the positive control of commercial ointment. The anti-inflammatory activity of the yellow kepok banana ointment formula is related to the compound of saponins, flavonoids, and tannins. The results indicate that the yellow kepok banana corm extract has the potential to be developed as an anti-inflammatory drug.</em><br /></em></p>

Objective:  This study aims to determine the efficacy of mengkudu leaves extract to accelerate wound healing post tooth extraction in white rats.Material and Methods: Laboratory experimental study was carried out using post-test only and control group design. This study was measured by observing the duration of wound healing post tooth extraction, starting from the formation of sockets after tooth extraction until the socket closed, with sample of 27 white rats in three study groups in accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria that have been determined.Results: The average healing time in the negative control group is 19 days, the positive control group is 9 days, and the treatment group with mengkudu leaves extract is 7 days. Therefore, the fastest time of wound healing occurs in the treatment group, followed by the positive control group and lastly, in the negative control group.Conclusion: Mengkudu leaves accelerate wound healing post tooth extraction in white male rats.

Haruan is a kind of freshwater fishes commonly found in South Kalimantan. Haruan extract contains nutritional substancessuch as albumin, Zn, Fe, Cu, and unsaturated fatty acid which can help accelerate wound healing. The aim of this studywas to histopathologically assess the effect of 100%, 50%, and 25%haruan extract compared to aquadest and ibuprofenon macrophages count in inflammation phase of wistar rats’ buccal mucosa wound healing. This research was a trueexperimental with post test-only with control design. Samples used were 30 wistar rats divided into 5 groups, 100%, 50%,25% haruan extract treatment groups, ibuprofen treatment group as positive control, and aquadest treatment group asnegative control. Mean macrophages counted on day 3 of 100%, 50%, 25% haruan extract treatment groups aquadest,and ibuprofenl were 2.05, 4.4, 3.9, 3.3, 2.4 respectively. In conclusion, haruan extract had a significant effect in decreasingmacrophages count in inflammation phase of wound healing.

Rimpang Temulawak atau Curcuma xanthorriza Roxb. adalah tanaman yang dikenal luas oleh masyarakat sebagai obat tradisional. Rimpang temulawak mengandung kurkumin dan xanthorrizzol, yang diketahui mampu mempercepat penutupan luka di kulit dan juga memiliki efek antibakteri dan antiinflamasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk mengetahui efektifitas perasan rimpang temulawak terhadap percepatan penutupan luka sayat pada tikus putih. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen, dengan subyek 10 ekor tikus putih yang dibagi dalam 2 kelompok perlakuan yaitu kelompok yang diberi perasan temulawak dan kelompok kontrol negatif yang tidak diberi perlakuan. Data dikumpulkan dengan mengukur panjang luka tikus menggunakan alat ukur penggaris dan dihitung persentasi penutupan luka. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis regresi linear dan nilai slope (b) dinyatakan sebagai kecepatan penutupan luka. Hasil penelitian ini, menunjukan bahwa rimpang temulawak mampu mempercepat penutupan luka sayat sebesar 15,262%/hari dibandingkan kelompok yang tidak diberi perlakuan sebesar 13,54%/hari. Kata Kunci: Perasan Rimpang Temulawak, Luka Sayat, Percepatan Penutupan Luka, Sediaan Sederhana, Obat Tradisional Indonesia Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb. is a plant that is widely known by the community as traditional medicine. The rhizome of C. xanthorrhiza contains curcumin and xanthorrhizol, which are known to be able to accelerate wound healing on the skin and also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of C. xanthorriza rhizome on the acceleration of incision wound healing on white rats. This study was an experimental study, with 10 white rat subjects divided into two treatment groups, namely the treatment group which was given by C. xanthorriza rhizome and the negative control group that was not treated. Data were collected by measuring rat wound length using a ruler and calculating the percentage of wound healing. By using linear regression analysis and the value of the slope (b) is expressed as the acceleration of wound healing. The results of the study showed that C. xanthorrhiza rhizome was able to accelerate incision wound healing by 15.262% / day compared to the untreated group of 13.54% / day.

Samples were divided into 4 treatmentgroups, haruan extract 25%, 50%, 100% treatment groups and aquadest treatment group as negative control, eachtreatment wasperformed for 7 days. Neocapillariescount reached its peak on day 5. Mean neocapillaries scoring of eachgroup was 12, 16.5, 18.5, 6 respectively. Two way Anova and post hoc LSD tests presented a significant differencebetween negative control and haruan extract groups. In conclusion, haruan extract treatment significantly increasedneocapillaries count in wound healing process.

ABSTRACTJatropha leaves (Jatropha curcas L.) contains alkaloid, saponin, tannin, terpenoid, steroid, glycoside, phenol compound and flavonoid through ethanol extract. Until today the community still used the plant as a wound healing medicine. The aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of jatropha curcas L. leaf extract ointment for healing in male white rats wistar strain.  Jatropha leaves extract ointment was tested on 5 which consists of 3 rats in each treatment groups, that is base ointment (negative control), ointment betadine (positive control), ointment extract of Jatropha leaves 10%, 20% and 40%. Observations has made until the 14th day. And data were tested using ANOVA (Analysis of Variants) and continued with LSD (Least Significant Different) test.  Statistical test results showed a difference in the duration of wound healing in male white rats wistar strain between the ointment extract of jatropha leaf with ointment betadine and vaseline ointment. Keywords: Ointment, Jatropha extract (Jatropha curcas L.), Galur wistar, Wound.ABSTRAK Daun jarak pagar (Jatropha curcas L.) mengandung zat-zat alkaloid, saponin, tannin, terpenoid, steroid, glikosida, senyawa fenol dan flavonoid melalui ekstrak etanol. Hingga saat ini masyarakat masih menggunakan tanaman tersebut sebagai obat penyembuh luka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji efektivitas salep ekstrak etanol daun jarak pagar terhadap penyembuhan luka sayat pada tikus putih jantan galur wistar. Salep ekstrak daun jarak pagar  diujikan pada hewan uji tikus sebanyak 5 yang terdiri dari 3 ekor tikus disetiap kelompok perlakuan, yaitu  basis salep (kontrol negatif), salep betadine (kontrol positif), salep ekstrak etanol daun jarak pagar 10%, 20% dan 40%. Pengamatan dilakukan sampai hari ke 14. Data diuji dengan menggunakan ANOVA (Analisis Of Variant) dan dilanjutkan dengan uji LSD (Least Significant Different). Hasil uji statistik menunjukan adanya perbedaan terhadap lamanya penyembuhan luka pada tikus putih jantan galur wistar antara sediaan salep ekstrak daun jarak pagar dengan salep salep betadine dan basis salep. Kata Kunci: Salep, Daun jarak pagar (Jatropha curcas L.), Galur wistar, Luka sayat.

Background: Acetaminophen (APAP) hepatotoxicity is a highly prevalent drug used for the treatment of pain. Allium hooshidaryae is widely used as herbal medicine in western Iran. Objectives: In this study, we investigated the protective effects of A. hooshidaryae methanolic extract (AhME) on liver damage induced by APAP. Methods: Rats were divided into six groups. Groups 1 (negative control) and 2 (positive control) received normal saline; groups 3 received 200 mg/kg of AhME, and groups 4 - 6 received AhME at the doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg once daily, by gavage, respectively. After the 14 days, except for groups 1 and 3, the other groups received 2 g/kg of APAP. After 48 hours, hepatic tissue and blood sample were taken for histopathology and biochemical experiments. Results: APAP induced a notable increase in serum levels of aspartate transaminase (AST, P < 0.001), alanine transaminase (ALT, P < 0.001), alkaline phosphatase (ALP, P < 0.001), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH, P < 0.01), nitric oxide (NO, P < 0.001), and lipid peroxidation (LPO, P < 0.001) levels in hepatic tissue. It also significantly reduced the level of total antioxidant capacity (TAC), total thiol groups (TTGs) as well as glutathione contents (GSH) in hepatic tissue (For all P < 0.001). Following the use of AhME, a noteworthy improvement was observed in hepatic serum enzymes and oxidant/antioxidant parameters in liver tissue. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that AhME prevents APAP-induced hepatotoxicity through improvement in the hepatic antioxidant status.

Samples were consisted of 4 treatment groups, 25%, 50%, 100% haruan extract treatment groups and negative control treated with<em> aquadest</em> for 7 days. Mean fibroblast cells count reached its peak on day 7. Mean fibroblast cells count in each group was 26.995; 40.500; 49.165; 24.495 respectively. Two way ANOVA and Post Hoc Least Significant Difference tests indicated there was a significant difference (p&lt;0.05) between haruan extract treatment group and negative control. In conclusion, haruan extract treatment significantly increase fibroblast cells count in wound healing process.
