The case presented details an uncommon case of subglottic tracheal stenosis exacerbated by pregnancy. We outine the multidisciplinary management involved and the outcomes for the pregnancy. The case serves as a reminder that shortness of breath in pregnancy has a broad differential diagnosis, and stridor is always abnormal.

Peripartum cardiomyopathy is a serious, potentially life-threatening heart disease of uncertain aetiology in previously healthy women. We report a morbidly obese woman who presented with peripartum shortness of breath. We discuss the differential diagnosis of dyspnoea in pregnancy and highlight the complexity of care of the morbidly obese woman.

Spontaneous pneumothorax during pregnancy is a rare but a serious condition. The typical symptoms of spontaneous pneumothorax include pleuritic chest pain and shortness of breath. Diagnosis is usually made on chest X-ray with abdominal shielding. Management differs according to severity and no specific guidelines are described for management of spontaneous pneumothorax in pregnancy. We report a case of a 27-year-old multigravida, with insignificant past medical history for any respiratory illness, presenting with recurrent, left sided spontaneous pneumothorax during a single pregnancy. It was managed by chest tube thoracostomy each time and patient was discharged with tube till the delivery of the fetus.

Statement of Significance Lower respiratory pathologies exhibit a broad spectrum of clinical courses ranging from self-limited to chronic and from benign to fatal. During the present COVID-19 pandemic, the prompt and proper diagnosis of respiratory disease carries even greater importance. Apart from this patient’s presentation with respiratory symptoms during a respiratory pandemic, he demonstrated several concerning features for severe disease including 20 lbs of weight loss and hemoptysis. This teaching case examine the differential diagnosis, workup, clinical considerations, and management of patients presenting with severe respiratory pathology of unknown etiology.

Since December 2019, the outbreak of the novel corona virus has impacted nearly >60 million peoples in more than 150 countries. In this case report, we aim to define the chest computed tomography findings of 2019-novel corona virus associated with pneumonia. A 47-year-old female patient, who is known case of hypertension and diabetes, presented with chief complaints of fever and shortness of breath since, two days. Chest computed tomography was performed and showed bilateral multifocal ground glass opacities with consolidation which suggested viral pneumonia as a differential diagnosis, and subsequent 2019-novel corona virus pneumonia nucleic acid test was positive.

We report a rare case of gastric cancer in pregnancy. A 26-year-old woman presented at the 20th week of pregnancy complaining of nausea and vomiting. Although the patient considered the condition to be related with pregnancy and underestimated its importance, her complaints persisted over the following weeks and she was hospitalized for investigation. The diagnostic workup revealed a metastatic gastric cancer. Gastric cancer is very rare in pregnancy, and therefore it may be left out of differential diagnosis by physicians. Diagnosis may be further delayed because of overlapping symptoms occurring during normal pregnancy (nausea, vomiting, and fatigue). All these factors may contribute to a very high mortality of this malignancy during pregnancy.

Background The differential diagnosis of acute shortness of breath in a pregnant woman with COVID-19 is broad. Pregnancy is a ketosis-prone state, which can result in metabolic acidosis and tachypnoea. Methods We describe four pregnant women with COVID-19 and breathlessness where ketoacidosis was found to contribute to symptomatic tachypnoea. Results One patient did not have associated COVID-19 pneumonitis, but presented with severe tachypnoea and metabolic acidosis; three women had pneumonitis and metabolic acidosis. Corrective treatment for the metabolic abnormalities resulted in resolution of the ketoacidosis in all cases. No women had coexistent diabetes. Conclusion This is the first series of COVID-19 in pregnancy complicated by ketoacidosis and symptomatic tachypnoea. Ketoacidosis associated with COVID-19 is an important cause of tachypnoea requiring specific treatment, which should not be overlooked. Potential mechanisms for this are discussed with a framework for interpretation of blood gas results during pregnancy.

The calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) is a benign odontogenic cyst that occurs in the gnathic bones. This cyst is part of a spectrum of lesions characterized by odontogenic epithelium containing “ghost cells,” which may undergo calcification. Areas of an eosinophilic matrix material compatible dentinoid also may present adjacent to the epithelial component. However, these areas of dentinoid commonly do not appear so abundant in COCs. In this study, we report a case of intraosseous COC with extensive areas of dentinoid and perform an update regarding the clinical, radiographical, histopathological, and differential diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of this cystic lesion.

Retroperitoneal schwannomas are though more common among females, are very much rare tumors arising from sheath of nerves. Also, extremely rare during pregnancy. Very few articles till date are there regarding retroperitoneal schwannomas that’s too in pregnant female. Usually these are symptomatic unless causing some compression to other intra-abdominal structures like vessels or bowel and usually malignant. As its retroperitoneal very difficult to diagnose it. So, with proper investigations and radiological imaging, first have to find out the differential diagnosis prior to planning for surgery.

Arrhythmias are one of the most common forms of cardiac disease presenting in pregnancy. Women with underlying arrhythmias may only present to health care professionals when they are pregnant. The most common type of sustained arrhythmia presenting in pregnancy is a supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). This can be difficult to diagnose, as symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness and shortness of breath are also common symptoms of pregnancy. We present the management of a woman who developed intrapartum SVT. Her case highlights the importance of considering the diagnosis in the antenatal period, the use of antiarrhythmic drugs, as well as the fact that achieving vaginal delivery is possible in correctly selected cases while the mother and baby remain stable.
