Smart pen technology has evolved over the past decade with new features such as Bluetooth connectivity, bolus dose calculators, and integration with mobile apps and continuous glucose monitors. While similar in appearance to a traditional insulin pen, smart pens have the ability to record and store data of insulin injections. These devices have the potential to transform diabetes management for clinicians, and patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy by improving adherence, glycemic control, and addressing barriers to diabetes management. Smart pens can also highlight the relationship between insulin, food, and physical activity, and provide insight into optimizing insulin regimens. Education of clinicians and patients, and more clinical studies showing the benefits of smart pens and cost-effectiveness, are needed.

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common metabolic disease worldwide and has many complications. The vascular events are the major complication of DM that have an important effect on mortality and disability. The physical activity (PA) enhances the vascular function by several pathways. The aim of this study was to evaluation of the relationship between PA and vascular diseases in patients with DM.Materials and Methods: This research was performed as the case-control study that was extracted from a prospective epidemiological research study in Iran (PERSIAN). The patients with type 2 DM more than six months defined as case group and the non-DM subjects in control group with ratio 1:2, and both groups were matched in the term of age and sex. The MET score was used to evaluate the level of PA and blood glucose, lipid profile, body mass index, overweight, dyslipidemia, glomerular filtration rate, myocardial infarction (MI), unstable angina, and stroke.Results: Overall, 1242 patients with DM were extracted, and 2484 non-diabetic subjects were investigated. In the case group, 355(28.6 %) and 887(71.4%) were men and women, respectively, the and 710 (28.6%) men and 1774(71.4%) women in control group. The mean MET score was 30 and 40.97 in the DM and non-DM groups, respectively (P˂0.001). The frequency of MI, stroke, and cardiac ischemia were 44 (3.5%), 37 (3%), and 267 (21.5%), respectively in DM group, and 54 (2.2%), 43 (1.7%), and 389 (15.7%), respectively in non-DM group.Conclusion: The incidence of vascular events associated with PA level in patients with DM and adherence to regular PA reduce the vascular events and DM complications. Rates of type 2 diabetes mellitus continue to rise around the world, largely due to lifestyle factors such as poor diet, overeating, and lack of physical activity. Diet and eating is often the most challenging aspect of management and, when disordered, has been associated with increased risk for diabetes-related complications. Thus, there is a clear need for accessible and evidence-based interventions that address the complex lifestyle behaviors that influence diabetes management. The current study sought to assess the efficacy and acceptability of a pilot lifestyle intervention for women with type 2 diabetes and disordered eating. The intervention followed a cognitive behavioral therapy guided-self-help (CBTgsh) model and included several pillars of lifestyle medicine, including: diet, exercise, stress, and relationships. Ten women completed the 12-week intervention that provided social support, encouraged physical activity, and addressed eating behaviors and cognitions. Results indicate the lifestyle intervention was a feasible treatment for disordered eating behaviors among women with type 2 diabetes and was also associated with improved diabetes-related quality of life. The intervention was also acceptable to participants who reported satisfaction with the program. The current CBTgsh lifestyle intervention is a promising treatment option to reduce disordered eating and improve diabetes management.

Abstract The aim of this review study was to assess the past significant events on diabetes mellitus, transformations that took place over the years in the medical records of treatment, countries involved, and the researchers who brought about the revolutions. This study used the content analysis to report the existence of diabetes mellitus and the treatments provided by researchers to control it. The focus was mainly on three main types of diabetes (type 1, type 2, and type 3 diabetes). Ethical consideration has also helped to boost diabetic studies globally. The research has a history path from pharmaceuticals of organic-based drugs to metal-based drugs with their nanoparticles in addition to the impacts of nanomedicine, biosensors, and telemedicine. Ongoing and future studies in alternative medicine such as vanadium nanoparticles (metal nanoparticles) are promising.

In this article Martha Stewart discusses how illness affects diabetes management and outlines the ‘sick-day advice’ that should be shared with people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes Intercurrent illness can cause glucose levels to rise in people with diabetes mellitus. These illnesses include the common cold, diarrhoea and vomiting, urinary tract infections and COVID-19. If diabetes is not managed well during illness it can escalate and result in more serious conditions, such as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state (HHS), which would require emergency hospital admission. This article discusses how illness affects diabetes management and outlines the ‘sick-day advice’ that should be shared with people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

This study attempts to analyze to what extent governance and sustainable development (SD) empirically appear compatible in the thirtyfive OECD countries through the fuzzy-set ideal type analysis, and identify which ideal types appear coupled or decoupled, and then reveal which countries belong to the coupled types or to the decoupled types. In short, twenty-two countries (including Sweden (fuzzy score, 0.953), Denmark (0.920), Finland (0.914), Norway (0.911) in Type 1 (G*S, ‘strong G-S coupled countries’); and Turkey (0.906), Greece (0.833), Mexico (0.828) in Type 4 (g*s, ‘lite g-s coupled countries’) are in line with the accepted conventions regarding the compatible relationship between governance and SD. On the other hand, the rest of thirteen countries (including USA (fuzzy score, 0.815), Luxembourg (0.721), Australia (0.660) in Type 2 (G*s, ‘G-s decoupled countries’); and Slovenia (0.728), France (0.644), Czech Rep. (0.625) in Type 3 (g*S, ‘g-S decoupled countries’) may indicate that the relationship of governance and SD is in fact experiencing tensions in the national contexts. These findings are characterized by the substance (of SD) and procedure (of governance) divide. Considering the results, this study focuses on the idea of reflexivity or reflexive capacity.

<abstract><p>The concept of a prominent interior GE-filter (of type 1 and type 2) is introduced, and their properties are investigated. The relationship between a prominent GE-filter and a prominent interior GE-filter and the relationship between an interior GE-filter and a prominent interior GE-filter are discussed. Examples to show that any interior GE-filter is not a prominent interior GE-filter and any prominent GE-filter is not a prominent interior GE-filter are provided. Conditions for an interior GE-filter to be a prominent interior GE-filter are given. Also, conditions under which an internal GE-filter larger than a given internal GE filter can become a prominent internal GE-filter are considered, and an example describing it is given. The relationship between a prominent interior GE-filter and a prominent interior GE-filter of type 1 is discussed.</p></abstract>

Introduction: In the field of health, information and communication technology plays an important role, the world is experiencing the era of communication, the field of health is not asymmetrical. According to the study, Iran is one of the countries that is at high risk of diabetes, and continues to increase in Iran and in most countries. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on the effectiveness of Information and Communication Technology (ICTs) in the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes.Material and Methods: This study was conducted as a review and through a search of valid information databases such as PubMed, Science direct, and Google Scholar. After the final extraction from the 106 papers in the cellular field 37% and 36% in telemedicine and 27% in the Internet topic from 2010 to 2018, were finalized.Results: The findings of the study showed that the recent developments in information technology combined with services for cost optimization have increased and the current use of information technology (IT) offers unique opportunities for patients with diabetes. Internet, mobile phone and telemedicine services can facilitate and improve communication between patients and healthcare professionals and play an important role in managing diabetes. The growing challenge is the proper management of diabetes to play an important role by employing innovative approaches aimed at improving patient outcomes and reducing the incidence of adverse healthcare systems.Conclusion: This study is an overview of information and communication technology research in diabetes management and can help researchers measure the effectiveness of information and communication technology in diabetes self-care and therapeutic systems in different areas and motivate self-management.
