The convenience and pervasiveness of smartphones have created an environment where teacher–parent communication can be easily fostered through mobile apps. The current study aims to explore the role of instant messaging apps in teacher–parent communication. Social capital and the uses and gratifications theory were used to develop a theoretical model. The survey collected 429 valid questionnaires. The findings show that both bonding and bridging capital have a positive influence on constructs including sociability, entertainment, communicatory utility, and emotion. Entertainment, communicatory utility, and emotion have a positive influence on the willingness to use Line as a teacher–parent communication tool. The implications for the extension of communication theory and practice are discussed in the current study.

Abstract In view of a series of challenges since Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) was introduced into China, we interviewed 14 front-line teachers in primary and secondary schools about their viewpoints and classroom strategies of TBLT. The results show teachers’ willingness to use TBLT. They adopt flexible teaching procedures, apply TBLT creatively, and explore task-based language assessment. The authors argue for inclusive non-doctrinaire approaches to TBLT, and propose to construct localized TBLT theory and practice with Chinese characteristics.

While a number of articles have looked at the importance of multicultural training in the workplace over the past 30 years, there is little concrete agreement that documents the common fundamental elements of a “successful” diversity initiative. A review of the training literature suggests the importance of human communication theory and practice without including important research, methodologies, and practice from the communication discipline. This article examines formal diversity approaches, provides examples from the literature of several successful diversity initiatives in larger organizations, identifies the limited use of communication-based approaches in diversity training, and discusses the importance of integrating communication theory and practice in future training efforts.

Sexual harassment of women often occurs in Indonesia and is disturbing to society. Based on Komnas Perempuan's 2016 Annual Records, there were 16,217 documented cases of sexual harassment. Along with the times, sexual harassment has penetrated into the digital realm, namely one case of sexual harassment in cyberspace that occurred in 2020 by X baristas. The employee uses Closed Circuit Television to peek at the breasts of female customers and spreads through social media. Based on this case, Komnas Perempuan conducted organizational communication by stating that the actions of former X employees included sexual harassment by means of violence by verbally displaying women's bodies without consent. The formulation of the research problem is how Komnas Perempuan's organizational communication is in addressing the resolution of cases of sexual harassment by X baristas. Based on the theoretical study, this research has used organizational communication theory, public relations, and Komnas Perempuan. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods through case studies by collecting data in the form of interviews, documentation, and literature study. The results of this study, Komnas Perempuan conducted internal communication by suggesting X to restore a safe space and external communication by responding to journalists through groups on instant messaging applications by maintaining a code of ethics to protect victims. Learning media is a communication tool both print and audiovisual that is used to convey the material that will be delivered by educators to students in the learning process. The use of media as learning should receive special attention from educators in each learning process. If the media as a learning tool used is very interesting, it does not rule out the possibility that students will better understand the concepts that will be delivered in the learning process to the fullest. Media that can be used in learning physics one of which is Crocodile Physics. This research was conducted to determine the positive effect of using Crocodile Physics media in learning on understanding physics concepts. The study was conducted at Indraprasta PGRI University in 2018. The population is the first semester students of the 2018/2019 academic year. The researcher used quantitative research methods. The experimental design used is classical experimental design. The data analysis technique used is the Independent sample t-test using the SPSS 16 program. The research hypothesis to be tested is that there is a positive influence on the use of Crocodile Physics media in learning to understand physics concepts. The results of the calculation of the study have a sig value of 0.00 < 0.05 which states that there is a positive influence on the use of Crocodile Physics media in learning towards understanding physics concepts. Therefore the results of the study state that there is a positive influence on the use of Crocodile Physics media in learning towards understanding physics concepts.

Although individuals increasingly use mobile applications (apps) in their daily lives, uncertainty exists regarding how the apps will use the information they request, and it is necessary to protect users from privacy-invasive apps. Recent literature has begun to pay much attention to the privacy issue in the context of mobile apps. However, little attention has been given to designing the permission request interface to reduce individuals’ perceived uncertainty and to support their informed decisions. Drawing on the principal–agent perspective, our study aims to understand the effects of permission justification, certification, and permission relevance on users’ perceived uncertainty, which in turn influences their permission authorization. Two studies were conducted with vignettes. Our results show that certification and permission relevance indeed reduce users’ perceived uncertainty. Moreover, permission relevance moderates the relationship between permission justification and perceived uncertainty. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.
