Informed by the qualitative method and the descriptive-interpretive design, this study, which was underscored by radical humanist goals of structural social work, reflects the voices of 16 youth who had transitioned out of care. The results show that emerging adults, transitioning out of care, are vulnerable and in need of support. This article discusses three main themes derived via an inductive approach: the influence of sociocultural networks, connecting with family, and the multiple risk factors associated with getting into and out of care that compromise youth’s quest for security. The neoliberal discourse on independent living needs to shift to interdependence and Ubuntu. It is interdependence, not independence, that gives a human face to care leavers as service providers respond to their past trauma, present vulnerability, and future risks, while promoting family preservation and resourceful, caring communities.

Pituitary apoplexy secondary to sellar tumors is a rare entity that carries a high mortality rate. It could be secondary to infarction or hemorrhage of the pituitary gland. The incidence remains unclear, most are reported in men between the ages of 50 to 60. In the majority of times, apoplexy is idiopathic in nature, without a clear discernible cause. However, there are multiple risk factors associated with this entity, such as systemic hypertension, among others. There are few cases of pituitary apoplexy caused by infarction of a pituitary macroadenoma. We present this case of pituitary apoplexy secondary to infarction of a nonfunctional pituitary adenoma in a young woman, with a fortunate resolution.

A well-documented outcome for emerging adults in determining their “success” is whether they are Not in Employment, Education, or Training (NEET) or engaged in Education, Employment, and Training (EET). Being NEET can create psychological, emotional, financial, and health challenges and is a significant risk factor in youth making successful transitions into adulthood. This article describes and compares the NEET and EET status of care leavers from Girls and Boys Town after 1 and 2 years and in relation to other outcomes. The results suggest that while care leavers’ NEET rates are high, they are not significantly higher than those of the South African general population as seen elsewhere in the world. Furthermore, being NEET is associated with more negative care leaving outcomes than being EET; however, this article also highlights the vulnerability of those who are EET. Relationships with family and support networks play a critical role in helping and supporting these youth.

The aim of this project is to identify and assess every existent didactic point of interest in Águilas. Regarding the methodology, using an observational design, a qualitative method through an observation sheet has been employed; in order to assess different factors associated to these points of interest. The sample is made of 59 heritage assets and, for the data analysis, a descriptive statistics of frequency and percentages were created. According to the results, it can be concluded that Águilas has at least 59 points of interest, these are now in an unfavorable condition, and although the majority of them can be visited without any inconvenient, a significant percentage is not accessible to people with reduced mobility and moreover, the majority of them does not have on-site information. From this data we can start and assess several proposals in order to bring this heritage closer to the citizens

Purpose This paper aims to focus on how companies shape the architecture of a phygital customer journey through the exploitation of smart technologies. Design/methodology/approach The research adopts a qualitative method using a grounded theory approach involving leading players in digital customer solutions and service providers from different industries. Findings The shaping of the architecture of the phygital customer journey comes from the interplay between systems of insights and systems of engagement activated by multiple customer-provider interactions in an entanglement of physical and digital contexts. Practical implications Companies need to design a blended approach to bridge disconnected contexts, capture new opportunities and provide customer engagement along the entire journey. Originality/value This study depicts the “phygital customer journey” under systems of insights and systems of engagement: These systems operate as dynamic architectures to capture insights and engage customers.

This chapter provides a synthesis of the literature on the transition to adulthood among emerging adults with a disability in the United States. The life course paradigm was used to frame the discussion in the context of demographic trends and contemporary circumstances regarding major life transitions in the areas of education, employment, independent living, and sex, marriage, and parenthood. A critical assessment of the current state of the literature from a social versus medical model of disability in these central life domains provides a foundation from which sociologists can explore processes of cumulative inequality embedded in the relatively uncharted lives of transition-age youth with a disability.

This chapter reports on exploratory research in Victoria, Australia, involving focus groups and interviews with service providers and Indigenous care leavers to examine the impact of existing support services. Indigenous children and young people are highly overrepresented in the Australian out-of-home care system. To date, neither specific research focusing on this group’s experiences as they transition from care nor an assessment of the Indigenous-specific and non-Indigenous supports and services available to them have been undertaken. Findings suggest that Aboriginal Community Controlled Organizations (ACCOs) play a positive role in working with non-Indigenous agencies to assist Indigenous care leavers. Participants identified a few key strategies to improve outcomes, such as facilitating stronger relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous services and improving ACCO resourcing.

A study designed to investigate the incidence of worker burnout examined worker, client, job, and agency characteristics in twelve family service agencies. Emphasis was placed on identifying factors associated with burnout so that steps can be devised to work toward its prevention or elimination.
