Aim To examine past Florence Nightingale Medal recipients’ parallels with the evolving nature of the nursing field as a whole. Design Descriptive research. Method The professional and demographic characteristics of 1,449 Florence Nightingale Medal recipients between 1920 and 2015 were analyzed to develop a high-level overview of the award recipient characteristics. Result Medal recipients were primarily female (98.07%), with 36% being Specialist nurses. Awards were mainly conferred for aid work (30.4%) in the context of war or armed conflict followed by Nursing education (17.2%) and disaster aid (14.9%). The majority of recipients were affiliated with the Red Cross and the majority of recipients were those conducting Red Cross duties. Conclusion Our results offer statistical validation for the dedication of these exceptional individuals, while also highlighting overall parallels with the ongoing development of the nursing field as it expands to better deliver culturally-sensitive care and to overcome outdated stereotypes that would otherwise constrain innovation.

Background. Increasing lay responder cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator use during sudden cardiac arrest depends on an individual’s choice. Investigators designed and piloted an instrument to measure the affective domain of helping behaviors by applying the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to better understand lay responders’ intent to use lifesaving skills. Method. Questionnaire items were compiled into 10 behavioral domains informed by the TPB constructs followed by refinement via piloting and expert review. Two samples from an American Red Cross–trained lay-responder population ( N = 4,979) provided data for an exploratory (EFA, n = 235) and confirmatory (CFA, n = 198) factor analyses. EFA derived interitem relationships into factors and affective subscales. CFA yielded statistical validation of factors and subscales. Results. The EFA identified four factors, aligned with the TPB constructs of attitudes, norms, confidence, and intention to act to explain 57% of interitem variance. The internal consistency of factor-derived subscales ranged between 0.71 and 0.91. Reduction of instrument items went from 47 to 32 (32%). The CFA yielded good model fit with the switching of the legal ramification item from the social norm to intention construct. Conclusion. The Intent to Aid (I2A) survey derived from this investigation aligned with the constructs of the TPB yielding four subscales. The I2A allows health education researchers to differentiate modalities and content impact on learner intention to act in a first aid (FA) emergency. I2A compliments cognitive and psychomotor measurements of learning outcomes. The experimental instrument aims to allow curricula developers and program evaluators a means of assessing the affective domain of human learning regarding intention-to-act in an FA emergency. In combination of with assessment of functional knowledge and essential skills, this instrument may provide curricula developers and health educators an avenue to better describe intention to act in an FA emergency.

The Study made an attempt to identify the work stress and job satisfaction among headmasters of bilingual school in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. Work stress and Job Satisfaction are vital organizational issues affecting performance and growth of an organization in emerging competitive environment. Descriptive research design was adopted and simple random sampling with a sample of 40 headmasters of bilingual schools in Muscat was chosen for the study. The data was collected through two structured questionnaires on job satisfaction and work stress. The data was analyzed and reported through descriptive statistics. Result indicated that the headmasters of bilingual schools were more likely to experience stress at work and had a high level of Job satisfaction in their challenging work.

The oldest records of developmental beginnings of patients? healthcare relate to the first hospital founded by St. Sava at the monastery Studenica in 1199. The profile of the Kosovian girl became the hallmark of nursing profession in Serbia. The first school for midwives was founded in 1899 at the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the General State Hospital in Belgrade. However, there were no other schools for nurses in Serbia until the foundation of the School for Midwives of the Red Cross Society in 1021. Until then the healthcare of patients and the injured was carried out by self-taught volunteer nurses with completed short courses of patients? healthcare. The first course for male and female nurses was organized by the Serbian Red Cross at the beginning of the First Serbian-Turkish War in 1876. During wars with Serbian participation in 19th and 20th centuries with Serbian participation, nurses gave a remarkable contribution being exposed to extreme efforts and often sacrificing their own lives. In war times great merit belongs to the members of the humanitarian society the Circle of Serbian Sisters founded in Belgrade in 1903, which was the resource of a great number of nurses who became the pride of nursing profession. Generations of nurses were educated on their example. In 2004 the annual award ?Dusica Spasic? was established which is awarded to the best medical nurse in Serbia. Dusica Spasic was a medical nurse that died at her workplace, when aged 23 years, nursing the sick from variola.

This study aimed to investigate the perceived problems of strike action and deviant behavior in selected higher institutions in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The descriptive research design of ex-post-facto type was used in the study. Three hundred respondents were selected randomly from two Universities. The respondents were measured with a self-developed scale, and the data obtained were analyzed using descriptive (mean) statistical analysis. Four research questions were raised and answered. The result showed that causes of strike action in selected higher institutions include non-payment of teacher’s salaries, low responds to problems confronting schools among others, problems of strike action in selected higher institutions include production of half-baked graduates, youth involvement in secret cult, widespread of examination malpractice, causes of deviant behavior in selected higher institutions include parental neglect, drug addiction, high level of poverty among others and problems of deviant behavior in selected higher institutions include incessant strike action, widespread of examination malpractice, prevalence of teenage pregnancy among others. Given these findings, the study recommended that school counselors should identify deviant behaviors and counsel adolescents on how it can be prevented and that Government should deem it fit to respond to the yearnings and aspirations of the workers in terms of quick payment of their salaries and other emoluments.

Abstrak Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan profil berpikir kritis mahasiswa PGMI UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta dalam memecahkan masalah matematika dasar. Pemecahan masalah merupakan proses mental tingkat tinggi dan memerlukan proses berpikir yang lebih kompleks termasuk berpikir kritis. Pemecahan masalah juga mempunyai hubungan timbal balik dengan berpikir kritis. Berpikir kritis pada penelitian ini mengacu pada berpikir kritis dengan kriteria FRISCO. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Pada penelitian ini diambil 9 subjek penelitian, yaitu 3 subjek pada kemampuan matematika dasar tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan pemberian soal pemecahan masalah dan wawancara. Ada 5 tipe masalah yang digunakan dalam soal pemecahan masalah yaitu: simple translation problem, complex translation problem, process problem, applied problem, dan puzzle problem. Profil berpikir kritis mahasiswa dalam memecahkan masalah matematika dasar menurut kriteria FRISCO pada setiap langkah pemecahan Polya sebagai berikut: a) Mahasiswa dengan KPM tinggi mengetahui fokus, alasan, situasi dan kejelasan dalam setiap tahap pemecahan masalah juga menjelaskan inferensinya pada setiap tahap pemecahan masalah Polya pada simple translation problem, complex translation problem, dan applied problem, tetapi belum dapat untuk 2 masalah lainnya; b) Mahasiswa dengan KPM sedang, mengetahui fokus, alasan, situasi dan kejelasan dalam setiap tahap pemecahan masalah juga menjelaskan inferensinya pada setiap tahap pemecahan masalah Polya pada simple translation problem dan applied problem tetapi belum dapat untuk 3 masalah lainnya; dan c) Mahasiswa dengan KPM rendah, mengetahui fokus, alasan, inferensi, situasi, klarifikasi dan memeriksa kembali pada setiap langkah pemecahan masalah Polya pada masalah simple translation problem, dan belum dapat pada puzzle problem, sedangkan untuk 3 masalah lainnya mengetahui fokus dan alasan hanya sampai pada langkah melaksanakan strategi, tetapi belum dapat mengetahui inferensinya. Kata kunci: berpikir kritis, pemecahan masalah, kemampuan matematika dasar Abstract The purpose of this research is to describe the critical thinking profile of PGMI UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta students in solving basic mathematics problems. Problem solving is a high level mental process and requires a more complex thinking process including critical thinking. Problem solving also has a reciprocal relationship with critical thinking. Critical thinking in this study refers to critical thinking with the FRISCO criteria. The type of this research is descriptive research with qualitative approach. In this study, 9 subjects taken, that is 3 subject to the ability of high-basic mathematic, medium, and low. Data was collected by way of tests and interviews. There are 5 types of problems used in problem solving tests: simple translation problem, complex translation problem, problem process, applied problem, and puzzle problem. The profile of critical thinking of students in solving basic mathematics problems according to FRISCO criteria at each polya solving step as follows: a) Students with high problem solving abilitys know the focus, reason, situation and clarity in every problem solving step also explain the inferences at each stage of solving Polya problem on simple translation problem, complex translation problem, and applied problem, but not yet for 2 other problems; b) Students with medium problem solving abilitys know the focus, reason, situation and clarity in each stage of problem solving also explain the inferences at each stage of polya problem solving on simple translation problem and applied problem but not yet for the other 3 problems; and c) Students with low problem solving abilitys know the focus, reason, inference, situation, clarification and re-examine each step Polya problem solving on the problem of simple translation problem, and not yet in the puzzle problem, while for 3 other problems know the focus and reason only to the step of implementing the strategy, but not yet know the inferences. Nursery has existed throughout history and it dates back to the very beginning of humankind. It was mentioned in church books and other written texts but not as a skill or science, but as an occupation reserved for the members of monastic orders, and also for women, that is, mothers, and nuns. First, nursing was an occupation, then a skill, but at the end of the 20th century, it became a scientific discipline. Florence Nightingale is certainly one of the most significant women in the history of nursing, medicine, and society in general because she is the pioneer of the nursing profession that has continuity up to nowadays. She was born on May 12, 1820, in Florence, Italy and died on August 13, 1910, in London. Florence Nightingale worked as a nurse, organizer, researcher, statistician, reformer, writer and a teacher. She reformed nursery and public health. In 1860, she established the school for nurses within St. Thomas' Hospital and she took care of every protégé. In spite of all obstacles, which she was faced with, and the unenviable position of women in the 19th century, she made a huge move that changed the context of this profession forever. She had a huge influence on the Swiss philanthropist Henry Dunant (1828-1910), who was the founder of the Red Cross. In 1867, the International Council of Nurses proclaimed that her birthday would be the International Nurses Day. She was the first woman who was awarded the Medal of virtues. In 1908, she was conferred the Order of Merit by King Edward. She wrote more than 200 books and the Pledge.

This study is based on how does work from home impacts employee’s productivity in IT sector. The main aim of this particular study was to conduct an in depth research in order to understand the experiences of employees which they had while working from home and to understand whether there was any effect of working from home on employees productivity. Exploratory and Descriptive Research was conducted which was carried through questionnaire. This approach was taken in order to collect employee’s opinions and experiences and to observe if there were any trends emerged in relation to employee’s productivity while working from home. The study reveals that there is a significant impact of work from home on employee’s productivity level. Despite there were mixed opinions whether employees performance was low or high while working from home, however employees also shared their opinions on how their productivity levels be affected negatively if working from home was removed. Overall it was clear to observe the high level of positivity surrounding due to work from home and how it impacted positively not only on employee’s productivity but also on employee’s work life balance, job satisfaction, occupational stress and motivation of employees.

This study examined the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and online teaching self-efficacy among 115 academic nurse educators who teach online (totally, blended, or both). The sample was randomly drawn from the list of nursing schools accredited by Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) with baccalaureate, master’s and/or doctoral programs. The hypothesis tested states “Academic nurse educators who teach online and who report higher levels of EI would also report greater online teaching self-efficacy.” Results showed a significant moderate relationship (r=0.446, p< .01) between EI and online teaching self-efficacy. The coefficient of determination R2 was 0.199, which indicates that about 20% of the variation in online teaching self-efficacy can be explained by EI contribution. The hypothesis was supported. Results also indicated that online teaching self-efficacy was positively related to duration of being an academic nurse educator (r = 0.212, p<0.05) and duration of teaching online (r = 0.203, p< 0.05). Further, there was no significant difference between the different age groups regarding EI and online teaching self-efficacy. Similarly, there was no significant difference among university degrees attained of participants regarding EI and online teaching self-efficacy. The Implications for enhancing EI and online teaching self-efficacy are discussed.

On 17 March 2005, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Jakob Kellenberger, presented a study (hereinafter “the Study”) of customary international humanitarian law (IHL). A decade earlier, the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent had mandated the ICRC to “prepare […] a report on customary rules of IHL applicable in international [IAC] and non-international armed conflicts [NIAC], and to circulate the report to States and competent international bodies.” The Study's objective was to capture a “photograph” of the existing, hitherto unwritten rules that make up customary IHL. Comprehensive, high-level research into customary IHL followed; the end result of which is undeniably a remarkable feat and a significant contribution to scholarship and debate in this area of international law.

AbstractThis paper focuses on the individual perspective, as opposed to the institutional or operational one, towards the Fundamental Principles and their underpinning humanitarian values. It demonstrates the added value of this perspective, which goes beyond addressing challenges regarding the Fundamental Principles' understanding and application. By making the Principles and values come alive in peoples' behaviour, the individual perspective also enables Red Cross and Red Crescent staff and volunteers to inspire a change of mindset and behaviour towards a culture of non-violence and peace. Two tools created to this purpose, as well as their impact, are presented: (i) the Seven Skills for Seven Principles (747) framework, which unpacks the high-level Principles into more concrete and tangible components, values and intra- and interpersonal skills; and (ii) the Youth as Agents of Behavioural Change (YABC) initiative, which, using a non-cognitive learning approach, fosters a personal connection towards the Principles and increases participants' ability to role-model them.
