Empowering Flight Exercise: Teaching Students the Design, Underlying Processes, and Organizational Outcomes of Empowering Work Systems

Employee empowerment yields positive outcomes for employees, managers, and organizations. Yet, too many employees feel disempowered at work, and managers, while wanting to empower employees, often do not know how. Contributing to this state of affairs is the lack of published, high-fidelity exercises explicitly designed to instruct students on how empowerment “feels,” how empowerment “works,” and how to practically empower others. In this article, we outline a 90-minute face-to-face classroom exercise that integrates the structural and psychological empowerment perspectives enabling students to “feel” empowerment or disempowerment and see the productivity and quality benefits of an empowered workforce, and teaches students how to empower others at work. While participating in the exercise, students simulate working in an airplane manufacturing organization, working either in an empowered work environment or a traditional hierarchical work environment. The exercise provides instructors with an important classroom tool to instruct students about the importance of empowerment, trust, and performance in organizational life.

A workplace never resides in isolation and hence in the workplace employees experience both psychological and social conditions which often called as psychosocial work environment. The psychosocial work environment has become continuous component in studies of occupational health and stress and encompasses concerns on the risks which generate from the psyche perceptions of the individual's concern in accordance with the risks of the societal environment. The psychosocial environment at work has a deteriorating effect on the general health of workers such as musculoskeletal disorders, mental disorders, cardiovascular diseases, stress, burnout, sickness absence, labor turnover along with the organizational outcomes like the effectiveness of work, motivation, and performance. Psychosocial factors in response to the health repair process have become increasingly important in both developed and developing countries. Such factors have not frequently been studied or addressed in developing countries even though 80 percent of the working population lives in developing countries.

Common nursing functions, previously done in face-to-face interactions, are beginning to be done using computer interactions, thus changing the work environment of nurses. This paper reports experiences from a series of projects about the potential impact of electronic care delivery systems on nurses' work systems. Nurses' attitudes towards technology, values central to nursing practice and nursing functional roles are important factors to consider when designing computerized nursing care delivery systems.

<em>This research was conducted based on the existence of problems in the competence and physical work environment of employee performance. This study aims to determine the effect of competencies and physical work environment simultaneously or partially on the performance of employees of PT. Suzuki Indomobil Motor. The sampling technique is the sample random sampling technique. The type of research used is descriptive and verivative research methods, with data collection techniques using primary data and secondary data. The results showed that competency, physical work environment, and performance were categorized quite well. Based on the calculation, it can be seen that simultaneously the competence and physical work environment have a positive and significant influence on the performance of the employees of PT. Every company needs to pay attention and regulate employee behavior in the workplace so that the stability of organizational life is maintained in a conducive manner. Various efforts have been made to achieve this, such as providing incentives. By paying attention to the adaptation of employees in the work environment based on years of service. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of tenure and incentives that shape employee work behavior. The selected population is all employees who work at a private bank branch office in Surabaya. All employees other than the leadership at the bank were sampled as many as 49 people. Regression analysis to answer the purpose of this study with the help of SPSS. The results obtained are the length of service and incentives together and individually proven to have a role to shape employee work behavior. The variable of tenure is more dominant in shaping employee work behavior.

This study examined the relationship between conscientiousness, empowerment and job performance among information technology professionals. An Employee Empowerment Questionnaire (EEQ), a Conscientiousness Scale and a Social Desirability Scale were administered to 101 information technology customer service engineers. Managers completed a Performance Evaluation Questionnaire (PEQ) for each customer service engineer. The results indicated a significant relationship between conscientiousness and empowerment. A curvilinear relationship was found between empowerment and performance. The practical and theoretical implications of the findings are discussed.

AbstractThis research examined the validity of Performance Environment Perception Scales (PEPS), a new instrument designed to assess performance-relevant aspects of the work environment. A sample of 156 employees of an Australian university completed PEPS and their supervisors rated their task and citizenship performance. Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed PEPS to have a valid factor structure, and PEPS were found to be significantly correlated with citizenship performance, but not with task performance. Although this finding is consistent with theoretical predictions, PEPS are apparently the first measures of work environment perceptions that have confirmed this. Thus PEPS show promise as measures for use in future research and organizational development projects that focus on relationships between the work environment and performance. Limitations of the research and implications for the validity of PEPS, as well as for future research and practice, are discussed.

The result known that the work environment and organizational culture through organization commitment take effect performance of library employees At UPT Jember University by significant whre direct or indirect to performance of library employees at UPT Jember University. The development of the business world now requires all forms of business including cooperatives to do various ways to increase productivity and performance. One of the efforts in increasing productivity and performance is by building a high-performance work system. The purpose of this research is to find out the high performance work system in cooperatives. The number of respondents was 132 respondents with factor analysis analysis techniques. From the results of the analysis conducted found three factors as determinants of high performance work systems, namely the method of task delegation, internal planning and motivation.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, medical personnel received much heavier workload than normal. On top of it, stigma and low appreciation of the community for medical personnel leads to increase of both physical and psychological pressure. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of leadership, workload, and work environment on nurse satisfaction and performance. The sample in this study were 246 nurses who worked at Bali Mandara Hospital. Data was collected through questionnaire distributed online using google form platform and the data was processed using SmartPLS 3.2.1. The results of the study found that: (1) leadership, workload, and work environment had a positive and significant effect on nurses' job satisfaction; (2) leadership and nurse satisfaction have a positive and significant effect on nurse performance, workload has a negative and significant effect on nurse performance, and work environment has no effect on nurse performance; and (3) nurse job satisfaction mediates the influence of leadership, work load, and work environment on nurse performance.
