An analysis of fractal dimension and tortuosity based on 2D numerical reconstruction model of reservoir rocks

The microstructure of reservoir rocks plays an important role in oil and gas accumulation and production. We examine a universal method to evaluate these properties of rocks, such as pore tortuosity, matrix porosity, and connectivity, and we respectively construct a 2D numerical reconstruction rock model with different microstructure parameters by the Monte Carlo method and the quartet structure generation set method. We further study the heterogeneity (characterized by fractal dimension and tortuosity) of the constructed image for reservoir rocks by the numerical and theoretical analysis and obtain the formulas for fractal dimension and tortuosity versus porosity. The simulation results show that the logarithmic relation is between the pore fractal dimension and porosity, and the relationship between tortuosity and porosity has the form of power. This process provided an important method to advance 2D reconstruction technology of reservoir rocks and effectively determine the relationship between microstructure and porosity.

In the conditions of high level of instability and market uncertainty, it is necessary to continuously develop and improve mechanisms for increasing the stability, effective management of enterprises, and the formation of new ties. The increase of possible variants of interaction in the modern socio-economic environment requires the expansion of the methodological apparatus and tools for studying the relationship between contractors. The subject of research in the article is the applied aspects of evaluating the relationship management system with contractors of oil and gas enterprises. The purpose of the study is to summarize the theoretical and methodological principles, the development of methodological and practical recommendations for evaluating the system of interaction with contractors of oil and gas enterprises. The task: to describe the methodical approach to the formation of a system for managing relationships with counterparties of the enterprise. General scientific methods of modeling modeling, variation, integral calculus and economic analysis are used to study the system of relationships with counterparties of oil and gas enterprises; system approach and structural-logical analysis - to present the results. The following results were obtained: a universal method for assessing the satisfaction of counterparties and the system of interaction with them was developed, in which, unlike the existing ones, the modified 10-point Staple scale and the model of “discontinuities” were used as analysis tools. the level of their actual satisfaction establish the correspondence of the ratio between the indicators of "satisfaction", "expectation", determine the rating of the importance of indicators for consumers oil, and on its basis to set indicators to focus attention units of oil and gas enterprises in the total enterprise management system to achieve a common goal - to strengthen customer relationships and a corresponding increase in profits as a result of economic agreements with them. Conclusions: as a result of analyzing the gaps between the counterparties' expectations and the level of their actual satisfaction, it was found that the indicators for which satisfaction was rated highly have a high rating of importance for consumers, as well as certain indicators for which significance exceeds satisfaction and, therefore, needs improvement.

The relevance of the article is associated with the importance of the object of the research. Dozens of unique and giant oil and gas fields, such as Urengoyskoye, Medvezhye, Yamburgskoye, Vyngapurovskoye, Messoyakhskoye, Nakhodkinskoye, Russkoye, have been identified within the Cenomanian complex. The main feature of Cenomanian rocks is their slow rock cementation. This leads to significant difficulties in core sampling and the following studies of it; that is the direct and most informative source of data on the composition and properties of rocks that create a geological section.The identification of the factors, which determine the slow rock cementation of reservoir rocks, allows establishing a certain order in sampling and laboratory core studies. Consequently, reliable data on the reservoir and estimation of hydrocarbon reserves both of discovered and exploited fields and newly discovered fields that are being developed on the territory of the Gydan peninsula and the Bolshekhetskaya depression will be obtained. This study is also important for the exploration and development of hydrocarbon resources of the continental shelf in the waters of the Arctic seas of Russia as one of the most promising areas.As a result of the analysis, it was found that the formation of rocks of the PK1-3 Cenomanian age of the Bolshekhetskaya depression happened under conditions of normal compaction of terrigenous sedimentary rocks that are located in the West Siberian basin. Slow rock cementation of reservoir rocks is associated with relatively low thermobaric conditions of their occurrence, as well as the low content of clay and absence of carbonate cements. Their lithological and petrophysical characteristics are close to the analogous Cenomanian deposits of the northern fields of Western Siberia and can be applied to other unconsolidated rocks studied areas.

PurposeThis paper aims to explore the relationship between green human resource management (GHRM) practices and the environmental performance (EP) of firms belonging to industries that may lean toward environmental pollution (e.g. oil and gas). The authors propose a holistic (serial mediation) model based on the ability-motivation-opportunity (AMO) theory and the social exchange theory (SET) and integrate organizational, i.e. perceived organizational support (POS), and individual, i.e. innovative environmental behavior (IEB), factors as explanatory mechanisms. The authors then test the model in a developing country context.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from white collar workers in the oil and gas industry in Pakistan. A structural equation modeling (SEM) technique and the PROCESS model 6 were used to analyze the hypothesized serial mediation model.FindingsThe authors found support for the fully meditating serial mediation model. Although the direct effects of GHRM and EP were insignificant, the total effects and indirect effects through POS and IEB were significant. Similarly, the research also found support for organizational and individual factors as explanatory mechanisms in the relationship between GHRM and EP.Originality/valueThis research adds to the existing literature on GHRM and the corporate EP link through proposing and testing a model of the mediating effects of POS and IEB. Furthermore, it provides empirical evidence of this model in the oil and gas sector using an Asian developing country as the context of study.

Background: This article contributes to existing literature by examining the relationship between inbound open innovation and firms’ financial performance in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. Aim: This article seeks to identify the factors of inbound open innovation and whether these factors influence the financial performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. Setting: This article examines 150 indigenous oil and gas SMEs in the upstream subsector of the Nigerian petroleum sector through a survey, using a questionnaire, conducted in 2015. Methods: The study applied the structural equation modelling (SEM) method. This method is used to test the relationships between the factors and to calculate the measurement errors in the hypotheses formulated. Results: The results show that technology scouting, vertical technology collaboration (VTC) and horizontal technology collaboration (HTC) positively and significantly contribute to inbound open innovation, which are thus significant in influencing the financial performance of SMEs. The size of technical staff and research and development (R&D) fund allocations also have a positive and significant correlation with the SMEs’ financial performance. Meanwhile, the age of SMEs is negative and not significant in influencing financial performance. Conclusion: The results suggest that inbound open innovation through scouting, HTC and VTC should therefore be encouraged among SMEs to boost their internal capabilities, which have hitherto enhanced their financial performance. The management members of each SME should continually consider collaboration with the external actors because they cannot singularly possess all the innovative skills required in the industry. Also, each firm should commit itself to allocate more funds to R&D and at the same time should hire those who have relevant production skills and train the existing ones in their firms.

Casing wear is one of the key issues in the development of oil and gas fields and in the process of drilling operations. In this study, the relationship between hardness and wear resistance of drill collar and casing was studied; thereby the wear conditions between the two materials were improved. Chemical analysis, optical microscopy, hardness test and friction wear test were conducted to study the effects of heat treatment on hardness of the drill collar 4145H and the casing 30Mn5V, and discuss the relationship between hardness and wear resistance of them. The results showed that the materials of drill collar and casing after different heat treatment had varying degrees of wear, both of the respective wear amounts were gradually increasing with the increase of hardness of them, the wear extent of casing material was greater than that of drill collar material. The hardness of casing material was the lowest and its wear resistance was the best when quenching at 880°C and tempering at 630°C. And when quenching at 900°C and tempering at 690°C, the hardness of drill collar material was the lowest and its wear resistance was the best. Therefore, the hardness of drill collar and casing can be improved by changing the heat treatment process to improve the wear resistance, thereby reducing the wear conditions between them.

The authors created a geodynamical polygon on the Komsomolsk oil and gas condensate field to ensure the industrial safety of oil and gas production facilities. The aim of its creation is mul-tiple repeated observations of recent deformation processes. Analysis and interpretation of the results of geodynamical monitoring which includes class II leveling, satellite observations, radar interferometry, exploitation parameters of field development provided an opportunity to identify that the conditions for the formation of recent deformations of the earth’s surface is an anthropogenic factor. The authors identified the relationship between the formation of subsidence trough of the earth’s surface in the eastern part of the field with the dynamics of accumulated gas sampling and the fall of reservoir pressures along the main reservoir PK1 (Cenomanian stage).
