The exact mechanisms through which ghrelin promotes lipogenesis are unknown. Uncoupling protein (UCP)-2 is a mitochondrial protein important in regulating reactive oxygen species; however, recent research shows that it may play an important role fat metabolism. Given that ghrelin increases UCP2 mRNA in white adipose tissue, we examined whether the lipogenic actions of ghrelin are modulated by UCP2 using ucp2+/+ and ucp2−/− mice. Chronic ghrelin treatment either via osmotic minipumps or daily ip injections induced body weight gain in both ucp2+/+ and ucp2−/− mice; however, body weight gain was potentiated in ucp2−/− mice. Increased body weight gain was completely due to increased body fat as a result of decreased fat oxidation in ucp2−/− mice. Ghrelin treatment of ucp2−/− mice resulted in a gene expression profile favoring lipogenesis. In a calorie-restriction model of negative energy balance, ghrelin to ucp2+/+ mice did not increase body weight; however, ghrelin to ucp2−/− mice still induced body weight. These results show that UCP2 plays an important role in fat metabolism by promoting fat oxidation and restricts ghrelin-induced lipogenesis.

ABSTRACT This study sought to clarify the antiobesity effects of fish oil (FO) in terms of prevention and amelioration. An isocaloric diet composed of lard or FO was given to lean C57BL/6J mice for the study of prevention and high-fat diet-induced obese (DIO) mice for the study of amelioration for 4 weeks. Body weight gain and food efficiency were potently suppressed by FO in lean mice compared to lard diet-fed mice. Uncoupling protein-1 (UCP-1) expression in inguinal white adipose tissue (WAT) was also significantly induced by FO in lean mice. FO also suppressed body weight gain and food efficiency in DIO mice but did not reduce body weight. FO ameliorated liver steatosis in DIO mice by mildly inducing UCP-1 in inguinal WAT. FO suppressed obesity more potently in lean mice than in DIO mice but ameliorated steatosis in the DIO mice.

Cariprazine (Car) is a recently approved second generation antipsychotic (SGA) with unique pharmacodynamic profile, being a partial agonist at both dopamine D2/3 receptor subtypes, with almost 10 times greater affinity towards D3. SGAs are known to increase body weight, alter serum lipids, and stimulate adipogenesis but so far, limited information about the adverse effects is available with this drug. In order to study this new SGA with such a unique mechanism of action, we compared Car to substances that are considered references and are well characterized: olanzapine (Ola) and aripiprazole (Ari). We studied the effects on body weight and also assessed the adipogenesis in rats. The drugs were self-administered in two different doses to female, adult, Wistar rats for six weeks. Weekly body weight change, vacuole size of adipocytes, Sterol Regulatory Element Binding Protein-1 (SREBP-1) and Uncoupling Protein-1 (UCP-1) expression were measured from the visceral adipose tissue (AT). The adipocyte’s vacuole size, and UCP-1 expression were increased while body weight gain was diminished by Car. by increasing UCP-1 might stimulate the thermogenesis, that could potentially explain the weight gain lowering effect through enhanced lipolysis.

ABSTRACT  This study aims to determine the benefits of soybean  husk  and onggok fermented  rhizopus sp in feed merino sheep concentrate of body weight gain and feed intake. Materials used in the study is as much as 12 merino sheep and the methods used by the randomized trial (RAK) using the PO as controls (100% concentrate); P1 (AOT concentrate 90% + 10%); P2 (AOT concentrate 80% + 20%); P3 (AOT Concentrate 70% + 30%). The results of the study with 30% of AOT gift giving weight increase of 25.3 g / tail significantly different (F count> F table) and feed consumption P0 :. 215, 27g / tail, P1 : 203, 13g / eco, P2: 219,24g / tail, P3: 190.72 not significantly different (F arithmetic <F table 0.05), it can be concluded that the AOT replace concentrate when substituted have the same content to concentrate on P0 , P1, P2, and P3. From the results of this study cuncluded that the addition soybean  husk  and  onggok  fermented  rhizopus sp in feed merino sheep  concentrate can increase body weight gain and  low consumption level but have a good nutrition with the level of gift  30%.

The aim of the study was to determine the development of ramie plants (Boehmeria nivea L. Gaud) and the effect of using ramie leaves on feed on the body weight gain of Wonosobo Sheep (Dombos). Research on the development of ramie plants using survey methods in the area of ramie plant development in Wonosobo Regency. While the research on the use of ramie leaves for fattening was carried out in Butuh Village, Kalikajar District, Wonosobo Regency in 2018. 21 male Dombos were divided into 3 feed treatments with forage proportions of 70%, 50% and 30 ramie leaves respectively. %. The results showed that currently ramie plants were being developed in Wonosobo Regency by CV. Ramindo Berkah Persada Sejahtera in Gandok Village, Kalikajar District, Wonosobo Regency, Central Java. Until now the area of the crop has reached 13 ha. Of this area will produce ramie leaves 195,000 kg / year. If one sheep needs 4 kg of ramie / tail / day leaves, then the potential capacity of sheep is 135 heads / year, if the given one is 50% then the Jurnal Litbang Provinsi Jawa Tengah, Volume 16 202 Nomor 2 – Desember 2018potential capacity is 270 heads / year and if it is reduced again to 25% of ramie leaves then the potential capacity 440 heads / year. The use of ramie leaves as a feed for Wonosobo Sheep fattening can be given as much as 30% in fresh form.
