Abstract While Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach Trilogy has been read through the uncanny human traumas and tropes of “contamination” in its first novel, Annihilation, the trilogy’s radical ecological thought emerges more clearly through cosmic and transformative trauma in the final novel, Acceptance. Rather than some contaminated space, Area X is restoring Earth’s ecosystems to a “pristine” state, but in a process of guided succession that traumatizes human life as lived under ecologically destructive neoliberal economies of extraction. Reading the twinned falls of Saul and Control, this article shows how Acceptance reimagines uncanny trauma for a new form that is painful but also familiar, human but also posthuman, and utterly necessary for planetary survival.

The information and communication technologies (ICT) have penetrated into almost all areas of human life. They have a dual impact on education – increase learning efficiency and train students actively to use innovations. We assess this impact by examining teachers’ experience with innovative tools in Bulgarian schools. In an anonymous online survey, we investigate their opinions on the issues related to technology integration in contemporary classrooms. The research shows that educators appreciate the benefits of technology implementation in the teaching-learning process, but they need a single structured system encompassing all technological resources and tools. This work proposes a conception for a smart classroom – an innovative learning environment that can establish and control suitable conditions for education as well as to impact the instructional process directly.

Abstract Background Echinococcosis is a severe zoonotic disease that imposes a substantial burden on human life. Numerous studies on echinococcosis have involved a variety of risk factors, and it is difficult to evaluate the key risk factors. The objectives of this meta-analysis are to summarize available data on the prevalence of human echinococcosis and identify the key risk factors for echinococcosis. Methods Relevant studies were comprehensively searched in the PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chongqing VIP Information (VIP), Wanfang and SinoMed databases from database inception until August 22, 2020. A random-effects model was used to estimate the pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) by integrating the OR values of each risk factor. The I2 and Q statistics were calculated to evaluate the heterogeneity, and potential sources of heterogeneity were identified using sensitivity analysis and subgroup analysis. Publication bias was estimated by funnel plots and Egger’s test. Results A total of 1026 studies were identified through the database search, of which 26 were eligible for this meta-analysis. In total, 23 and 9 of the 26 studies were cystic echinococcosis (CE) and alveolar echinococcosis (AE) studies, respectively (6 papers included both AE and CE). The pooled prevalence of echinococcosis was 5.52% (95% CI: 5.47%-5.58%). Ethnicity (OR = 2.93, 95% CI: 1.81–4.75; I2 = 0), being a herder (OR = 2.66, 95%CI95% CI: 2.25–3.14; I2 = 8%), not washing hands before meals (OR = 2.40, 95% CI: 1.34–4.28; I2 = 82.8%) and being female (OR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.26–1.66; I2 = 33.9%) were risk factors for AE. The top five risk factors for CE were ethnicity (OR = 3.18, 95% CI: 1.55–6.52; I2 = 79.2%), nomadism (OR = 2.71, 95% CI: 1.65–4.47; I2 = 55.8%), drinking nonboiled water (OR = 2.47, 95% CI: 1.36–4.47; I2 = 85.7), feeding viscera to dogs (OR = 2.35, 95% CI: 1.89–2.91; I2 = 21.5%), and being a herder (OR = 2.19, 95% CI: 1.67–2.86; I2 = 85.1%). The study design-specific subgroup analysis showed that the heterogeneity of CE risk factors decreased to varying degrees. Conclusions Specific characteristics (i.e., ethnicity and herder status) and behaviors (i.e., not washing hands before meals and feeding viscera to dogs ) are possible risk factors for echinococcosis. This study provided remarkable insight for future prevention and control of echinococcosis.


The essential requirement for human life to exist is water. After to the air, the other It has in various sources such as canals, ponds, rivers, lake, streams, reservoirs and etc. human settlers on the banks of major river systems at the earliest and has need water for drinking, bathing, cooking, laundering, and many more. But with the advancement of civilization the demand of water supply grately increased and now has such a stage to come that without well organized public water supply scheme, it is not possible to move the present human life and the develop the towns. Earlier has importance on quantity. And now today importance of quality comes to be recognized gradually in the later days. In this present study, numbers of water samples were collected various water supply schemes from 20 villages of bhimavaram region, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. The drinking water samples are analyze its biological quality and it was found that some of the samples in the study area are exceeds or above the standard limit or permissible limit. On over all based on biological quality few drinking water sources located in and around different areas of Bhimavaram was seriously polluted by harmful bacteria and must need few treatment methods. So that need of attention not to use of supplied water and need to give suggestions and remedial measures to concerned local authorities of various disinfection treatment technologies or control measure to make supplied water free from pathogenic Bactria. Quality Assessment of drinking water from various sources (S Malhotra, S.K., Sndhu (2015), especially bacteriological quality should be periodically planned regularly to avoid and control waterborne diseases

Rabies has continued to claim human life despite different efforts to controls its transmission cycles between humans and domestic dogs. New developments in ICT have provided an opportunity for increased possibilities for community involvement in rabies surveillance. The main objective of this study was to investigate on approaches and practices to improve the communication of rabies surveillance information at different levels. Specifically, a study was carried to establish the significance of applying human sensor web system. Human sensor web has a potential of strengthening rabies surveillance system and serves as applied research tools for investigating strategic spatially targeted control activities, identifying areas most at risk and early detection of rabies incursions. Web and mobile based rabies surveillance system was developed and piloted as a support tool for the detection, surveillance and control of rabies. Wide application of the developed system will pave way for effective and efficient country-wide sharing of rabies surveillance information.

5G is a new universal wireless standard, a new form of mobile network engineered to bring everyone and everything virtually together. 5G is not only for mobile phones, but it is also the foundation for virtual reality (VR), the internet of things (IoT), and autonomous driving, connecting many electronic devices to the internet. Having good healthcare is very important as it affects all parts of human life and social well-being. Moreover, it is crucial to have a great healthcare system if we want economic growth, workforce productivity, and society to advance. Despite all the hard work done by scientists and medical professionals, today's healthcare is mainly inefficient, and a significant overhaul is required. This chapter discusses the primary advantages, including the 5G's main features in healthcare and their limitations and probable solutions and applications to the latest scenario.

This chapter brings together the descriptions and discussion in Chapters 1, 2, and 3 to summarize the main argument of the book. Drawing on Douglas-Fairhurst’s metaphor of the concertina, the chapter introduces the idea of the ‘stenographic mind’ as the consequence of the intensive mental operations involved in writing and reading Gurney shorthand. These operations include word games and language play (section 4.1), phonotactics (understanding what words are possible in a language) and redintegration (combining parts of words to produce a whole one) (section 4.2), visualization (section 4.3), and vocalization (section 4.4). The chapter argues that the cumulative effect of these operations was to produce a form of stenographic thinking which enabled Dickens to solve the mental puzzle of the Gurney shorthand script and control the relationship between stenographic writability and readability. This is argued to be a new form of literacy which strongly influenced Dickens’s writing practices.

Location-based advertising (LBA) opens up new frontiers for marketers to place their advertisements in front of consumers. LBA is a new form of marketing communication that uses location-tracking technology in mobile networks to target consumers with location-specific advertising on their cell phones. It provides more targeted communication and interaction between the marketer and its potential customers. This paper reviews different aspects of LBA advertising and investigates the drivers of consumer acceptance toward it. Achieving this, a research framework is developed to explore the factors influencing consumer intention for using LBA in Iran. Individuals’ responses to questions about intention to accept/use of LBA advertising were collected and analyzed with various factors modified from UTAUT with main constructs of utility expectancy, trust, effort expectancy, and control. While the model confirms the classical role of utility expectancy and effort expectancy as the key factors in technology acceptance, the results also show that users’ behavioral intentions are influenced by trust and their control on ads flow.

The Western worldview, otherwise known as the modern worldview, has its origins in ancient Greek culture and its best known analyst and critic is Max Weber. Weber described the rationalization processes by which it came about as involving the disenchantment of the world, the disengagement of the autonomous self from the world in order to become its central agent, the objectification of the cosmos and the bureaucratization of all aspects of human life with the intention of mastery and control. This has led to what Weber called the Iron Cage in which modern human beings find themselves, unable to escape the alienation that such disengagement has brought about but equally unable to find an alternative. The exploitative nature of the western project is the basic cause of the contemporary destruction of the environment. Gregory Bateson probes more deeply into the alienating influences of the modern worldview which he says is based on its inability to understand the world holistically, which will inevitably lead to the world’s destruction. At the heart of this condition is his theory of the double bind. His advocacy for a more holistic understanding of the world resonates with postmodern critics in the fields of philosophy, anthropology, and theology, all of whom are advocating engagement, vulnerability, and participation as opposed to separation, prediction, and control.

This project is describes the development of underwater vehicle which is remotely operated crawler (ROC). The ROC is developed for the implementation of underwater surface floor and used as for rescuing application. This project is aim to reduce the risk the human life and to solve the disability of human to dive to the underwater for rescue and archeologist work in a longer period. Due to the underwater vehicle that can be operated in a larger depth and reducing the liability of the human life. Moreover, the main problem with this ROC application is to travelling under the uneven of the underwater floor and make sure it always have negative buoyant and a good stability to perform at uneven surface of underwater. Furthermore, the ROC need the overcome the obstacle of the underwater surface without any problem. Therefore, the design of ROC is based on four wheel mechanism to maneuver it at the uneven surface. Besides that, the ROC is tethered and control manually by using a joystick controller and the Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) are used to control this ROC. This method is to fulfill the target of the project that are to develop and fabricate the ROC and to study the performance of the ROC in terms of controllability, stability and maneuverability. As a result, the movement of ROC is analyzing in order to gain the requirement of stability and the buoyancy in the water. Moreover, the development of the ROC can be tested in several experiments which includes overcome obstacle, controllability, and it performances to be operated on the surface floor of underwater. Hence, this project will gives the good impact and benefit related to the underwater industries and can be applied in the rescuing application in the future.
