The Effect of HRM Practices on Environmental Competence of Employees

In a green business the environmental competence of employees becomes a key factor in the successful implementation of environmental strategies and performance. However, there is no approach to the understanding and development of environmental competence in the context of the organization and its effect on employee’s behavior to achieve the company's environmental goals. Based on a survey of employees of an industrial enterprise and structural equations modeling (SEM) the article empirically proved that environmental competence, as a combination of knowledge, skills and value characteristics of an employee is formed as a result of a set of environmental oriented HRM practices. Also, the results of the study showed that environmental competence has a direct positive impact on the behavior of employees in solving environmental problems in the workplace and contributes to increased participation in additional environmental activities, initiative and commitment to improving environmental performance. The results of the study contribute to the development of green HRM methodology by expanding the empirical base of research on the mechanisms for the development of environmental competence of employees.

The study examines the effect of information quality on competitive advantage and company performance. This is a survey study conducted in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies in Indonesia throughout the year 2020. Out of 189 questionnaires submitted to 63 EPC companies, 96 questionnaires from 49 companies were returned and processed. The unit of analysis is the organization, and the directors of the company are the respondents. The research instrument was built based on the operationalisation of variables developed by previous research. The research results are explained descriptively and verified by using structural equation modelling (SEM). The data were processed with the use of the LISREL 8.8 statistical software. The results showed that information quality had a significant positive effect on the company’s competitive advantage, but did not have a significant effect on the company’s performance. Information quality can have a positive impact on the company’s performance when mediated by the company’s competitive advantage. Other findings show that the company’s competitive advantage has a significant impact on its performance. The findings indicate that EPC companies in Indonesia need information quality to create corporate excellence. A competitive advantage can also improve the company’s performance. EPC companies should invest heavily in IT, because information quality is the biggest determining factor in increasing their competitive advantage and performance, particularly as the application of artificial intelligence technology can be an alternative solution in the increasing competitiveness with the global EPC firms.

ABSTRACTThis study investigates the differential effects of internationalization on two dimensions of family firms’ performance: growth and profitability. Drawing on the contingency theory, we argue that the successful implementation of internationalization strategy requires an appropriate organization structure, which is usually absent in Chinese family firms. To the extent that such a structure is established, these firms can realize greater benefits from internationalization. From a sample of 225 family firms in China, our predictions receive empirical support. We find that internationalization has a positive impact on growth but a negative impact on profitability. The negative internationalization–firm profitability relationship highlights the challenges internationalizing Chinese family firms face. The positive moderating effect of corporate governance, a critical component of organization structure, underscores the need for appropriate corporate governance to support the implementation of strategy. The findings have important practical implications for the internationalization of Chinese family firms.

Collaborative virtual agents help human operators to perform tasks in real-time. For this collaboration to be effective, human operators must appropriately trust the agent(s) they are interacting with. Multiple factors influence trust, such as the context of interaction, prior experiences with automated systems and the quality of the help offered by agents in terms of its transparency and performance. Most of the literature on trust in automation identified the performance of the agent as a key factor influencing trust. However, other work has shown that the behavior of the agent, type of the agent’s errors, and predictability of the agent’s actions can influence the likelihood of the user’s reliance on the agent and efficiency of tasks completion. Our work focuses on how agents’ predictability affects cognitive load, performance and users’ trust in a real-time human-agent collaborative task. We used an interactive aiming task where participants had to collaborate with different agents that varied in terms of their predictability and performance. This setup uses behavioral information (such as task performance and reliance on the agent) as well as standardized survey instruments to estimate participants’ reported trust in the agent, cognitive load and perception of task difficulty. Thirty participants took part in our lab-based study. Our results showed that agents with more predictable behaviors have a more positive impact on task performance, reliance and trust while reducing cognitive workload. In addition, we investigated the human-agent trust relationship by creating models that could predict participants’ trust ratings using interaction data. We found that we could reliably estimate participants’ reported trust in the agents using information related to performance, task difficulty and reliance. This study provides insights on behavioral factors that are the most meaningful to anticipate complacent or distrusting attitudes toward automation. With this work, we seek to pave the way for the development of trust-aware agents capable of responding more appropriately to users by being able to monitor components of the human-agent relationships that are the most salient for trust calibration.

The current study tries examining the effect of socially responsible human resource management (SR-HRM) practices on environmental performance in banking industry of Bangladesh with mediating effect by green innovation. This study has tested the hypotheses upon 365 line-managers and has found positive effect of SR-HRM upon both environmental performance and green innovation. In the current research, green innovation also showed positive impact upon environmental performance. Additionally, Green Innovation significantly mediates the linkage between SR-HRM and environmental performance. This research recommends the future researchers to think of mediating effects by other responses of employees in the linkage between SR-HRM and environmental performance.

Introduction. At present, stands with running drums are widely used for various types of tests. Power stands play a special role. Such stands take the mechanical power from the driving wheels of the car. This simulates the process of movement of the vehicle under operating conditions. Such equipment has various designs, principles of operation and performance. It is also used in tests that are different by purpose, development stages and types: research, control, certification, etc. Therefore, it is necessary in order to determine the traction-speed, fuel-efficient and environmental performance characteristics.Materials and methods. The paper provides the overview of the power stands with running drums, which are widespread on the domestic market. The authors carried out the analysis of the main structural solutions: schemes of force transfer between the wheel and the drum; types of loading devices; transmission layout schemes and features of the control and measuring complex. The authors also considered corresponding advantages and disadvantages, recommended spheres of application, demonstrated parameters and characteristics of the units’ workflow, presented components and equipment.Discussion and conclusions. The authors critically evaluate existing models of stands with running drums. Such information is useful for choosing serial models of stands and for developing technical tasks for designing or upgrading the equipment.

This research article highlights the context within which IT organizations has grown in India and the extent of human resource management (HRM) practices and systems practiced in this sector. Using a mixed method approach involving both in-depth discussion with senior HR executives and self-completing questionnaires, the data have been collected from selected ITorganizations in Chennai. The results emphasize the way the specific HRM practices such as selection and recruitment, work environment, performance appraisal, training and development and compensations are implemented. The survey suggests the existence of formal, structured, and rationalized HRM systems in IT organizations. A number of insights related to HRM practices are shared by the HR senior executives interviewed peeling more light on the functioning of the IT companies and their challenges. The analysis provides original and useful information to both academicians and HR practitioners and gives ideas for further research in the area of HRM practices in IT organizations in India.Selection and recruitment, Training and development and compensations are having significant and positive impact on Job satisfaction.

Public sector banks have been merged by the government in the last few years. This is the rationale behind conducting this study. The purpose of this article is to determine the factors affecting the performance of public sector banks in India and the interrelationship between bank-specific determinants and performance of public sector banks. In this article, we shall analyse the financial data of all the public sector commercial banks for a period spread across 11 years (2009–2019); Capital adequacy, Assets quality, Management efficiency, Earning, and Liquidity (CAMEL) has been used as a performance determinant; system generalised method of moments (GMM) analysis has been used to find the effect of determinants on the performance measurement of public sector banks; and CCA (canonical correlation analysis) has been used to find the interrelationship between the bank-specific determinants and the performance of public sector banks. The finding has important implications in terms of performance in the banking sector. Certain limitations of this study are: It is based on secondary data. The study only covers the financial aspects and not the non-financial aspects. It is found that the asset quality is negatively related with performance of public sector banks. Liquidity and inflation are inversely related to performance of public sector banks in India. Capital adequacy is positively related with banks’ performance, but inversely related with banks’ interest margin. GDP growth has a significant positive impact on banks’ performance, but inversely related with banks’ interest income. Inflation rate is inversely related with banks’ performance. Banking sector reforms are insignificantly related with banks’ performance.

In this study, the two key factors affecting the thermal performance of the insert rubber and stress distribution on the tire sidewall were analyzed extensively through various performance tests and simulations to promote the development of run-flat tires. Four compounds and two structures of insert rubber were designed to investigate the effects of heat accumulation and stress distribution on durability testing at zero pressure. It was concluded that the rigidity and tensile strength of the compound were negatively correlated with temperature. The deformation was a key factor that affects energy loss, which could not be judged solely by the loss factor. The stress distribution, however, should be considered in order to avoid early damage of the tire caused by stress concentration. On the whole, the careful balance of mechanical strength, energy loss, and structural rigidity was the key to the optimal development of run-flat tires. More importantly, the successful implementation of the simulations in the study provided important and useful guidance for run-flat tire development.

This paper aims to investigate the impacts of customer orientation, competitor orientation, learning orientation, technology orientation, and entrepreneurial orientation on hotel innovation and performance. Data from 69 hotels in four Angolan provinces were analyzed using the partial least squares (PLS) approach and multi group analysis. The results show that learning and entrepreneurial orientations have a positive impact on hotel innovation. As anticipated, innovation has a positive impact on performance. According to the multigroup analysis, only the hotel category has a moderating effect on performance. Results suggest that hotels in developing countries could add value to both customers and shareholders by promoting new services and exploring new business opportunities. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the few studies that has researched the impact of strategic orientation on hotel innovation and financial performance in developing countries.
