The article is devoted to project-based learning as a method of forming communicative competence in a foreign language in the department of Linguistics. The pedagogical approach to the student-film making process which allows learners to elicit and develop their explanatory, pragmatic and creative potentials is analysed. This method aims at independent and mutual student research, critical evaluation of information sources and further information transfer to new contexts and ideas. The main benefits of implementing the project method in the contemporary teaching process are considered. The study focuses on the main requirements and rubric of student films. The article shows four stages of filmmaking, the role and functions of a teacher at each stage. It is concluded that during the video production process the role of a teacher is a facilitator who contributes to turning students into active, keen graduates who are able to analyse themselves. The results of a survey conducted among students on the video project are analysed.

The present research examines the project method, as it is met at the new curriculum of literature in the first Grade of Greek high schools and the effectiveness of it and of the teacher’s role at the development of social skills, of students with low level. At first it is made an effort to measure that level at the beginning of the literature lessons, by giving to 381 students a questionnaire to answer about themselves and to their 13 teachers a questionnaire to answer about their student’s social skills. The investigation was made with methodological triangulation. We observed at the beginning and at the end of the semester the 42 students who were found to have low level of social skills. Also we interviewed their 13 teachers about the way they organized their lessons. Moreover we interviewed the 42 students about the role of their teachers and if the teachers helped them to increase their social skills. At the end of the semester we gave the same questionnaire both to the 42 students and their teachers (post-tests). The comparison of the pre and post tests and the data processing of the observations and the interviews, show an increase of student’s social skills. Those results are important because of the following reasons: first of all the majority of the investigations examine the results of project method at the “territory” of cognition and not at the “territory” of social skills and secondly the majority of the investigations focuse on the social skills of disabled children.

The article deals with a new trend in foreign language teaching based on the cross-cultural approach. The challenge for teachers today is to develop students common, communicative and language competences which are essential conditions for the realization of such a task of modern language policy as the establishment of mutual understanding between different cultures. The components of communicative competence are established. The development of communicative competence is considered to be an obligatory condition for mutual understanding between nations in modern world.

This paper argues for an integration of the notion of communicative competence in the elaboration of syllabuses and the preparation of teaching materials for beginning and intermediate generalforeign languagecourses. A distinction is made between such courses and the teaching of English as a medium of wider communication on an international basis. In FL instruction, as opposed to the teaching of a MWC, metalinguistic, epilinguistic, or cultural objectives may be more highly valued than the use of language for daily communication. In addition, the general context of FL instruction precludes the authentic use of the target language in the classroom, a prerequisite for the attainment of communicative competence. The integration of the notion of communive competence in FL instruction, including the inclusion of notions and functions, involves the grafting of these last mentioned considerations onto a structural-situational-functional base. That base would be modified by moving in five directions: (1) adopting a functional orientation, i.e., providing learners with linguistic means to express notions and functions rather than the teaching of structures for their own sake; (2) focus on semantic notions; (3) cyclical progression; (4) aiming for discursive authenticity by identifying rhetorical devices) providing stylistic manoeuver by the recognition of the role of variants.

An empirical study was conducted to determine the level of theoretical knowledge of students of the University of Tehran studying Russian, about the main concepts and essence of the project method, its typologies and stages of work on the project, the necessary skills when performing projects in the classroom and outside the classroom. The survey revealed the degree of familiarity of Iranian students with the project method, as well as their readiness for project activities. The expectations of students of different courses before performing creative and game types of projects, their ideas about the role of the teacher in the selection and implementation of projects are shown. Russian Russian as a foreign language in Iran is proposed to use the project method to increase the motivation of students to learn Russian.

Façade is a one-act interactive digital drama about a marital crisis. The player is asked to play the role of a friend of the couple, and to try to cope with the situation by using his or her interaction skills. In this paper, I argue that Façade may be a valuable tool for teaching English as a second/foreign language, especially for the development of communicative competence. In order show how Façade may be used effectively, I (i) highlight the features of the tool that can play a meaningful role in language teaching; (ii) give examples of drama techniques that best exploit Façade; (iii) trace the techniques back to a methodology of reference; (iv) stress the primary importance of the human factor, the learners and teacher, over the technological tool. I then linger on the role of the teacher in activities that involve Façade, as well as other digital media. My proposal is presented under the metaphor of the edurector.

The article features project method in teaching Russian as a foreign language to students of Iranian universities. The research objective was to study the opinions of teaching staff (13 interviewees). The research was based on the project theory and personality-oriented approach. The survey showed that most teachers consider this method an indicator of professional skill and argue that project activities affect the motivation of teachers and students. Most of them implement project method in their work. However, they also point out the following problems: a lack of time and effort to create and apply pedagogical innovations, as well as a lack of material incentives and support from colleagues; problems associated with the transition from the role of a mentor to the role of a consultant; difficulties in applying research and creative methods. The results can be used to teach Russian to Iranian university students.

The present article is dedicated to the necessity and importance of continuing teaching students to work with great amount of information in the form of texts, as well as to acquire methods and strategies of this work. Gradual but unfaltering rejection of the use of texts in teaching a foreign lan- guage can lead to lowering the level of its mastering. To understand the deep reasons for the existing situation in this sphere, it is necessary to look at the experts’ opinions of the new generation of young people. In spite of the quick changes in the world, education preserves its strict standards that establish the landmarks upon which the pedagogical and educa- tional processes are built. In the course of several last years the teachers of the department of foreign languages have participated in the preparation of English-language materials for the Olympiads, organized by the RSUH. The author analyzes strategies and tactics of work with big texts, selection of topics, used in these Olympiads, as well as the tasks, developed for operating such texts. These types of work with big amount of information lead us to the neces- sity of forming and developing in students such aspect of the communicative competence, as its text-forming component. Here we can speak about all the skills, technologies, tactics and strategies, that are used to facilitate the stu- dent’ work in the analysis of existing texts, creation of new texts, stimulation of class and home self-study in the spheres of creative scientific and artisticwork, for example, writing an artistic essay or a scientific article. And the basis for such work will be constituted by the text.
