The geoecological processes affecting depletion of water resources of the Republic of Bashkortostan are reflected in this paper. The zoning maps and diagrams of Bashkortostan were compiled by average annual levels of precipitation, amount of watercourses, types of land use, and types of soils. The risks of water depletion in the Republic of Bashkortostan were calculated on the basis of spatial and attribution data. On the basis of the integration of this data, the authors created the zoning map of Bashkortostan reflecting quantitative water depletion.

The issues of ethno-demographic and ethno-linguistic development of the Bashkir population in the regions of the Russian Federation are considered. It is noted that the tendencies of demographic processes among the Bashkirs in the regions and in the republic of the same name are very different. The features of the ethnodemographic development of the Bashkirs in the regions of their historical settlement are shown, in which general trends coincide with the demographic processes in the country as a whole. It cannot be said about the Republic of Bashkortostan, which is characterized by sharp fluctuations in the size of the titular ethnic group. The dynamics of the ethnic and linguistic identity of the Bashkir population in the regions of historical settlement is revealed in a comparative aspect with the subjects to which the Bashkirs moved at a later time and in which their number is a small proportion. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that it was the first to analyze the ethno-demographic and ethno-linguistic aspects of the development of the Bashkirs in the Russian Federation, including in the regions of their historical settlement. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that the issue of the demographic development of the Bashkir population at the present stage, especially in the republic of the same name, has acquired an ethnopolitical discourse. It has been proven that, despite the policy of reviving ethnicity and the native language, the Bashkirs, like other peoples, are gradually losing it in favor of being recognized as a native Russian.

A unique complex of petrochemical and oil refining production is located on the territory of the Republic of Bashkortostan. According to its design production capacity, this complex occupies a leading position on the territory of the Russian Federation. Due to the reduction of proven reserves of oil-raw materials for this complex, there are high risks for its life, which will undoubtedly affect the socio-economic development of the region in the future. The authors’ reasoning focuses the regional economy on the modernization of production capacities of the petrochemical and oil refining complex, which contribute to the production of an expanded range of commercial products using renewable energy sources based on biomass. Thus, the involvement of countries in the production of energy products based on biomass is currently increasing. Key positions are held by Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia, etc. However, in the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, where oil and gas production and processing accounts for a significant share of economic development, there is a significant lag in the production of energy based on renewable energy sources. The article offers a number of scenarios that contribute to the continuation of the life cycle of oil refineries. These scenarios are based on the production of mixed biofuels with 5-, 10- and 20-percent bio-raw materials in the fuel. The most optimal scenarios are based on a gradual increase in bio-raw materials from 5 to 20 percent. Thus, the production of mixed fuel not only promotes the continuation of the life cycle of petrochemical and refining production, but also to preserve and increase jobs, especially in rural areas, and improve the environment, socio-economic development of the region and improve the quality of people's lives.

Activation of points of economic growth in regions with a tendency of reduction in natural resources and labor potential contributes to development of territories. The article presents an analysis of the natural resources, production and labor potential of the Republic of Bashkortostan, provides an assessment and proposes a scenario for activating points of economic growth. Cooperation of productive capacities that contribute to production of a variety of innovative marketable products will activate the points of economic growth. The natural energy potential of the Republic of Bashkortostan is limited in terms of oil, natural gas and coal, while the unique petrochemical and oil refining facilities located on this territory contribute to development of production and scientific potential in the field of hydrocarbons. Therefore, the production of hydrocarbons from renewable energy sources based on sugar and oil crops contributes to the economic growth of certain specializations of the agro-industrial and machine-building profile and partial provision of raw materials to the production specialization of the petrochemical and oil refining profile.

The physical and chemical properties of "loose" manganese ore of Ulu-Telyak Deposit of the Republic of Bashkortostan for the possibility of its use as an effective sorbent for purification of exhaust gases of metallurgical, chemical, oil refining, mining and other industries are studied. Analyses were carried out on the phase composition, chemical composition, determined the specific surface area of the pores and thermogravimetric method of water content. The process of sorption of a gas mixture containing hydrogen sulfide, methyl and ethyl mercaptans was also studied. The results of the experiments concluded that the prospects of using this "loose" manganese ore for the sorption of sulfur-containing gases.

The shifting of the oil extraction industry to the remote areas that are far from the regions with a developed petrochemical and oil refining industry implies high risks for the economic development of the latter. In the future, these enterprises may face risks of raw materials supply. So, some measures are needed to smooth out the spatial polarization of the territory in the future. For the transformation of the region’s economy, it is proposed to present the Republic of Bashkortostan as an experimental test area for the artificial hydrocarbons production for the further production of an expanded range of commercial products, including composite propellant (mixed fuel). The potential participants of the experiment are discussed in the article. For example, Chishminsky Oil Extraction Plant, which recently produces rapeseed oil and exports to the countries of the European Union and China for the production of biodiesel. For the production of ethanol, it is also proposed to use the production facilities of “Bashspirt”, located in the region. At the production site of such enterprises as the Branch of “Bashneft”, it is possible to produce various nomenclature of commercial products based on oil in concentration with artificial hydrocarbons from vegtative raw materials.
