Purpose: Promoting the labour integration of people with functional diversity is a key element to achieve their social inclusion. This meta-analysis aims to examine the effectiveness of experimental programs in developing employable skills for people with disabilities. Methods: Literature searches up to June 2019 were conducted in four databases (Web of Science, Scopus, PsycINFO and ERIC). Studies that met the following criteria were selected: (1) The program should develop employable skills; (2) the participants should be people with functional diversity; (3) the study should have a design with an experimental group and a control group as well as pretest and posttest measurements; (4) the study had to provide enough data to calculate the effect sizes; and (5) the study had to be written in English or Spanish. 67 independent studies met the selection criteria, among 14 articles published between 1998 and 2019. Results: The results revealed mean effect sizes in favour of the experimental group for the set of all studies according to data reported by people with functional diversity, as well as according their relatives and teachers. The two dimensions of the programs with a significant effect size in favour of the experimental group were interview skills and career planning. Furthermore, it was found that the programs showed a higher degree of effectiveness in groups formed only by people with intellectual disabilities, with a lower educational level, whose duration ranged from six to twelve months. This was particularly the case with participants from Spain and Australia. Conclusion: Promoting the labour insertion of people with disability is a key element to achieve their social inclusion. Programs that support and develop employability and that are conducted upon experimental conditions do have a positive impact upon young people with functional diversity. Upon the results, we discuss practical implications for integrating disabled persons into the labour market.

The research aims to determine “the Impact of Scientific Creative Thinking Skills on Scientific Process Skills”. Thus, the research was performed with 24 teacher candidates in the control group and 24 teacher candidates in the experimental group in the second class of the Department of Science Teaching in a university in Istanbul Province. In the experimental group of the research, the laboratory program to be designed by the researchers on the basis of scientific discussion and research; and in the control group, the conventionally designed laboratory program were applied for an academic semester. The research data was gained through “Scientific Creativity Test” to be developed by Hu and Adey [14] and adapted by Kadayıfçı [16]; “Scientific Process Skills Test” to be developed by Okey, Wise and Burns, and adapted by Geban, Aşkar and Özkan into Turkish. The conclusions to be reached by the research are in favour of the experimental group and the last application, and it has positive impact on the opinions of the teacher candidates related with the development of the scientific creativity skills.

Increasing the production of pork meat requires careful work not only in terms of breeding, but also in the organization of complete feeding of animals, the correct selection of feed and feed additives containing the necessary nutrients. The purpose of the work was to analyze the use of premix in feeding young pigs on fattening. Two groups of fattening young pigs (Large White×Landrace) have been selected for the researches using the method of analogous groups, taking into account the breed, age, and live weight per 20 heads in each group with a live weight of 35 kg. Pigs of the control group have received the main economic diet, and animals of the experimental group have received an additional premix Khutorok at the rate of 10 g of premix per 1 kg of feed. The results have shown that the best age to reach 100 kg was in the experimental group of pigs – 215,8 days, which received premix with feed that characterizes their higher precocity by 36,3 days (P < 0,001) than in the control group of animals. The use of this premix had a positive impact on the livability of young animals, in the experimental group it was by 9,3 abs.% more than in the control group of animals. Thus, the best fattening traits have been possessed by young pigl of the experimental group have been received the premix Khutorok in their diet at the rate of 10 g of premix per 1 kg of feed. The obtained data indicate the feasibility of using the premix Khutorok in the feeding pigs for fattening.

Purpose Many countries around the world have now introduced entrepreneurship into their curricula and educational practices, starting at the elementary school level. However, recent studies show the relative (un)effectiveness of K-12 enterprise education on diverse learning outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to report on a research aimed at assessing the impacts of enterprise education on students’ entrepreneurial attitudes. Design/methodology/approach The authors conducted a quasi-experiment between May and June 2017 to assess the entrepreneurial potential of students at Elementary Cycle 3 (10–12 years) in Quebec, Canada. Relying on attitude theory, the authors used Athayde’s Attitudes toward Enterprise for Young People test, which assesses students’ entrepreneurial potential through four entrepreneurial attitudes (leadership, creativity, achievement and personal control). The experimental group consisted of 11 classes which had conducted an entrepreneurial project during the 2016–2017 school year (n = 208 students), while the 7 classes of the control group had not (n=151 students). Findings At first glance, data showed no difference between the two groups. Further investigation showed that private and Freinet (public) schools’ students, both from the control group, show significantly higher leadership scores than those of the experimental group. In-depth analyses also show that increasing the number of entrepreneurial projects significantly impacted three of the four attitudes assessed, although negligibly. Research limitations/implications Taken together, those results question the relevance of single entrepreneurial activities in developing students’ entrepreneurial attitudes. They also suggest the positive impact of a progressive, constructivist pedagogy in developing such entrepreneurial attitudes. Moreover, the paper raises several factors likely to impact students’ entrepreneurial attitudes for further research. Originality/value K-12 enterprise education remains an understudied context, largely crossed by unproven statements. This research contributes to understand and give direction to educational initiatives targeting the development of young students’ entrepreneurial attitudes.

The results of studies of the use of rhaponticum carthamoides for feeding dairy cows are presented. The experiment was carried out on Holstein cows of black-and-white breed in Perm Territory. Vitaminherbal fl our from green mass of rhaponticum carthamoides at a dose of 0.4 and 1.0 kg per head per day in the period of 10-16 days before calving and in the fi rst 30 days of lactation was introduced into the feeding rations of two experimental groups of cows. High sugar content in rhaponticum carthamoides (from 4.15 to 11.2% in dry matter and metabolic energy from 10.87 to 12.12 MJ/ kg) was noted. In the studied material from this plant, the content of the 20-hydroxyecdysone was 0.49% of active ingredients in the dry matter of the product at a rate of 0.25%. The introduction of rhaponticum carthamoides in the diet of feeding animals contributed to the increase in the intensity of metabolic processes in the body. A gradual increase in cholesterol levels in all experimental groups was noted. The most signifi cant growth was observed in cows of the second experimental group by 0.82 mmol / l or 29.50% (p <0.01). Compared with the fi rst experimental group, the increase was 0.13 mmol / l or 5.2%, and the control group – 0.36 mmol / l or 14.17%. Stimulation of metabolic processes in the body of cows of the experimental groups had a positive impact on reproduction, which was manifested in the reduction of the service period duration, compared with the control group.

The study reports the effect of group investigation (GI) cooperative learning method and the Glogster online poster on improving the intercultural communication skills of international students (n=54) of eight different countries. The study is premised on the proposition that the integration of GI and Glogster in classrooms consisting of Lebanese and non-Lebanese students could be effective in improving the intercultural communication skills of international students and enhancing their perceptions of intercultural communication. The study employed the mixed methods pretest-posttest control group experimental design whereby six Interactions Among Civilizations intact classes were randomly assigned to control and experimental conditions. Employing the intercultural sensitivity scale yielded findings indicating the significance of the GI and Glogster in developing the cultural adaptability and intercultural sensitivity of the experimental group participants (n=25) whereas the control group participants (n=28) did not show similar improvement.

Objective. To carry out the meta-analysis on the clinical safety of glycyrrhizic acid and the influencing factors between 18α-glycyrrhizinate (18α-GL) and 18β-glycyrrhizinate (18β-GL). Methods. Magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate injection was used as the representative preparation of 18α-GL, and compound glycyrrhizin injection was used as the representative preparation of 18β-GL. The clinical control trial of magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate injection and compound glycyrrhizin injection was searched in a computer, which was published from January 2006 to December 2019 on the databases such as PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (CSTJ), and Wanfang Medical Network (Wanfang Data). The data associated with adverse drug reactions (ADRs) were extracted. RevMan5.3 was used for statistical analysis. Results. Finally, 24 studies were included, and 2757 patients were involved, of which the experimental group was mainly treated with magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate, while the control group was mainly treated with compound glycyrrhizin. The results showed that the occurrence of ADRs was significantly lower in the experimental group than that in the control group, and the difference between two groups was statistically significant (RR = 0.26, 95% CI = (0.18, 0.38), P < 0.00001 ). There was no heterogeneity among the studies (I2 = 0%, P = 1.00 ). Conclusion. Compared with 18β-GL, 18α-GL had a lower incidence of adverse reactions and better clinical safety.

Abstract Reference/Citation: Broglio SP, Puetz TW. The effect of sport concussion on neurocognitive function, self-report symptoms, and postural control: a meta-analysis. Sports Med. 2008;38(1):53–67. Clinical Question: How effective are various concussion assessment techniques in detecting the effects of concussion on cognition, balance, and symptoms in athletes? Data Sources: Studies published between January 1970 and June 2006 were identified from the PubMed and PsycINFO databases. Search terms included concussion, mild traumatic brain injury, sport, athlete, football, soccer, hockey, boxing, cognition, cognitive impairment, symptoms, balance, and postural control. The authors also handsearched the reference list of retrieved articles and sought the opinions of experts in the field for additional studies. Study Selection: Studies were included if they were published in English; described a sample of athletes concussed during athletic participation; reported outcome measures of neurocognitive function, postural stability, or self-report symptoms; compared the postconcussion assessments with preseason (healthy) baseline scores or a control group; completed at least 1 postinjury assessment within the first 14 days after the concussion (to reflect neurometabolic recovery); and provided enough information for the authors to calculate effect sizes (means and SDs at baseline and postinjury time points). Selected studies were grouped according to their outcome measure (neurocognitive function, symptoms, or postural control) at initial and follow-up (if applicable) time points. Excluded articles included review articles, abstracts, case studies, editorials, articles without baseline data, and articles with data extending beyond the 14-day postinjury time frame. Data Extraction: From each study, the following information was extracted by one author and checked by the second author: participant demographics (sport, injury severity, incidence of loss of consciousness, and postconcussion assessment times), sample sizes, and baseline and postconcussion means and SDs for all groups. All effect sizes (the Hedge g) were computed so that decreases in neurocognitive function and postural control or increases in symptom reports resulted in negative effect sizes, demonstrating deficits in these domains after concussion. The authors also extracted the following moderators: study design (with or without control group), type of neurocognitive technique (Standardized Assessment of Concussion, computerized test, or pencil-and-paper test), postconcussion assessment time, and number of postconcussion assessments. Main Results: The search identified 3364 possible abstracts, which were then screened by the authors, with 89 articles being further reviewed for relevancy. Fifty articles were excluded because of insufficient data to calculate effect sizes, lack of a baseline assessment or control group, or because the data had been published in more than one study. The remaining 39 studies met all of the inclusion criteria and were used in the meta-analysis; 34 reported neurocognitive outcome measures, 14 provided self-report symptom outcomes, and 6 presented postural control as the dependent variable. The analyzed studies included 4145 total participants (concussed and control) with a mean age of 19.0 ± 0.4 years. The quality of each included study was also evaluated by each of the 2 authors independently using a previously published 15-item scale; the results demonstrated excellent agreement between the raters (intraclass correlation coefficient  =  0.91, 95% confidence interval [CI]  =  0.83, 0.95). The quality appraisal addressed randomization, sample selection, outcome measures, and statistical analysis, among other methodologic considerations. Quality scores of the included studies ranged from 5.25 to 9.00 (scored from 0–15). The initial assessment demonstrated a deficit in neurocognitive function (Z  =  7.73, P &lt; .001, g  =  −0.81 [95% CI  =  −1.01, −0.60]), increase in self-report symptoms (Z  =  2.13, P  =  .03, g  =  −3.31 [95% CI  =  −6.35, −0.27]), and a nonsignificant decrease in postural control (Z  =  1.29, P  =  .19, g  =  −2.56 [95% CI  =  −6.44, 1.32]). For the follow-up assessment analyses, a decrease in cognitive function (Z  =  2.59, P  =  .001, g  =  −26 [95% CI  =  −0.46, −0.06]), an increase in self-report symptoms (Z  =  2.17, P  =  .03, g  =  −1.09 [95% CI  =  −2.07, −0.11]), and a nonsignificant decrease in postural control (Z  =  1.59, P  =  0.11, g  =  −1.16 [95% CI  =  −2.59, 0.27]) were found. Neurocognitive and symptom outcomes variables were reported in 10 studies, and the authors were able to compare changes from baseline in these measures during the initial assessment time point. A difference in effect sizes was noted (QB(1)  =  5.28, P  =  .02), with the increases in self-report symptoms being greater than the associated deficits in neurocognitive function. Conclusions: Sport-related concussion had a large negative effect on cognitive function during the initial assessment and a small negative effect during the first 14 days postinjury. The largest neurocognitive effects were found with the Standardized Assessment of Concussion during the immediate assessment and with pencil-and-paper neurocognitive tests at the follow-up assessment. Large negative effects were noted at both assessment points for postural control measures. Self-report symptoms demonstrated the greatest changes of all outcomes variables, with large negative effects noted both immediately after concussion and during the follow-up assessment. These findings reiterate the recommendations made to include neurocognitive measures, postural control tests, and symptom reports into a multifaceted concussion battery to best assess these injuries.

Abstract Empathy of the caregiver can influence both the caregiver’s performance and the receiver’s enhanced life. The aim of this study is to examine whether Simulation-based Empathy Enhancement program for the Carer of the Elderly (SEE-C) is effective in increasing care receivers’ session satisfaction and positive emotional change. We developed SEE-C by modifying the Dementia Live(TM) program and adding with a brief mindfulness. The effect on counselling was assessed using the Session Evaluation Questionnaire (SEQ), which is self-report tool asking the client about their experience with the session just ended. A total of 100 older adults living alone were interviewed by caregivers who experienced SEE-C (n=12) and by non-experienced (n=12). Participants in this study were randomly assigned to each of the two caregiver groups, and were interviewed about demographics, health and emotional status, and lifestyle using the same protocols. Analysis of covariance was conducted, controlling variables of age of subjects and caregivers’ months of career, which were found to differ significantly between the two groups. Among the four subcategories of SEQ, the experimental group reported significantly higher scores than the control group in three subcategories of session-depth (F(1, 96)=9.647, P=.002), session-smoothness (F(1, 96)=13.699, p&lt;.001), emotion-positive (F(1, 96)=18.056, p&lt;.001), with the exception of emotion-alertness (F(1, 96)=0.366, p=.546). These results suggest that SEE-C could have a positive impact on interviewing the elderly in terms of improving the capacity of the interviewer and raising the satisfaction of the interviewee.

Abstract Purpose The purpose of the systematic review and meta-analysis is to analyze the application value of the stoma support rods in loop enterostomy. Methods The studies on the application of stoma rods in loop enterostomy published from January 2000 to January 2020 were searched in the databases of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library, and Clinical trials. All randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies that observed the value of stoma rods were included according to inclusion criteria. The RevMan5.3 software was used for statistical analysis. Results A total of 1131 patients with loop enterostomy in six studies were included in this study; there were 569 cases in the experimental group and 562 cases in the control group. All six studies analyzed the effect of support rods on the incidence of stoma retraction; the meta-analysis showed that in a total of 32 patients, stoma retraction occurred, with a total incidence of about 2.8% in 1131 patients. The incidence of stoma retraction in the rod group was not significantly lower than that in the non-rod group, and the difference was not statistically significant (OR = 0.65, 95% CI 0.32~1.32, I2 = 0%, P = 0.23), and the studies were homogeneous. The incidences of stoma necrosis (OR = 6.41, 95% CI 2.22~18.55, I2 = 0%, P = 0.0006), peristomal dermatitis (OR = 2.93, 95% CI 2.01~4.27, I2 = 0%, P < 0.00001), and mucocutaneous separation (OR = 2.14, 95% CI 1.03~4.47, I2 = 0%, P = 0.04) were significantly increased in the rod group. Conclusions It is not recommended to routinely use stoma support rods in the clinical practice.

Objective. To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy of Xueshuantong injection (Panax notoginseng saponins) in preventing deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of lower extremity after orthopedic surgery. Methods. The randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of Xueshuantong injection in prevention of lower extremity DVT after orthopedic surgery were retrieved from CNKI, Wanfang database, VIP, PubMed, and Cochrane Library by August 2020. Revman5.2 was used to analyze the results. Results. A total of 20 articles including 2336 patients were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that the incidence of DVT in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group; after operation, the D-dimer (Ddimer), thrombin time (APTT), and prothrombin time (PT) in the experimental group were significantly improved compared with those in the control group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant. Conclusion. Xueshuantong injection can effectively prevent the formation of lower extremity DVT after orthopedic surgery and antagonize the postoperative hypercoagulable state of blood, which has high clinical value.
