This study was conducted to determine the abundance and the length-weight relationship of fishes of Sungai Sepang Besar (SSB), Selangor. A total of 832 individuals from 32 families comprising 50 species were collected from April 2014 to February 2015 by utilizing gill nets of various mesh size (1.25, 2.25, 2.50, 2.75, 3 and 4.5 inch) and long lines. The family Toxotidae was most abundant with a total of 474 individuals sampled comprising 2 species namely, Toxotes jaculatrix (n=288) and Toxotes chatareus (n=186). The Shannon-Weiner Index (2.37) and the Pielou Evennes (0.21) was low but the Margalef’s richness (7.29) was relatively high. Arius sagor, Photopectoralis bindus, Toxotes jaculatrix, Thryssa dussumieri, and Stolephorus indicus demonstrated positive allometric growth (b>3) while Plotosus lineatus and Toxotes chatareus showed negative allometric growth (b<3). Understanding abundance and the length-weight relationship of fish is important not only for species conservation and management, but also their habitat use.

Age and growth of Varicorhinus damascinus (Val.) in Tigris river at Salahuldin province have been investigated. Monthly samples were taken during the period from September 1999 to August 2000, using small-meshed gill nets. The age data showed that there were six age groups and the dominant age groups were (III – IV) for both sexes. The results of the present study revealed that the increment in length of V. damascinus at the sites of study showed a tendency to decrease with the increase in age, after the third year of life in both sexes. The length-weight relationship of males and females were calculated and demonstrated in a straight line logarithmic formula, as follows: Log W = 1.5404 + 2.6885 log L for males r = 0.95 (P > 0.05) Log W = 1.6723 + 2.7877 log L for females r = 0.77 (P > 0.05) The values of the regression coefficient (b) indicated that the growth of both sexes of V. damascinus was allometric..

Schizothorax curvifrons, an indigenous cyprinid fish of Kashmir, forms an important coldwater fishery resource of the valley. This study was aimed to describe the morphometrics and length-weight relationship of S. curvifrons in River Jhelum Kashmir. The various morphometric characters showed high co-efficient of correlation (r) values, indicating that the characters were highly correlated to each other. The length-weight relationship was established logarithmically as Log W = -3.9323 + 2.5863 Log L (r2=0.746) for males, Log W = -4.1708 + 2.6852 (r2=0.745) Log L for females and Log W = -3.9975 + 2.6138 Log L (r2=0.746) for pooled data. The b value (2.6138) was found to be significantly different from 3 indicating negative allometric growth.

The length-weight relationship of a newly described catfish Pangasius silasi Dwivedi et. al., 2017 was studied from 88 specimens collected from the native distribution range of the species i.e. Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, Telengana, India. The total length and weight of the sampled fishes ranged from 290 to -590 mm and 240 to 2300 g respectively. Results of regression analysis showed that the regression coefficient (r²) values varied from 0.985 to 0.989. The average condition factor observed was 1.04 and 0.98 for males and females respectively. Positive allometric growth and condition factor of the species indicated the potential of the species for aquaculture. The information generated will also be useful in sustainable management and conservation of the species in natural waters.

The current study describes the length-weight relationships and condition factor of Bombay duck, Harpadon nehereus from landings of Fishery Ghat, Chittagong. A total of 300 individuals caught by various mesh size of gill nets by commercial fishers were investigated from April 2016 to June 2016. On the basis of hypothetical cube law W=aLb, the variance of ‘b’ for both total length and standard length were estimated statistically (0.0090 and 0.0088 respectively). Using the value of t=1.96 at the 95% confidence limits for ‘b’ were estimated as 2.218 to 2.590 for total length-weight relationship and for standard length-weight relationship, 1.985 to 2.353 which indicated allometric growth pattern for both cases. The monthly relative condition factor during three months of observation (0.978, 1.033, and 1.097) showed no notable difference due to spawning strain, spent condition and lower feeding rate right after peak spawning season.Res.
