Age and growth of Varicorhinus damascinus (Val.) in Tigris river at Salahuldin province have been investigated. Monthly samples were taken during the period from September 1999 to August 2000, using small-meshed gill nets. The age data showed that there were six age groups and the dominant age groups were (III – IV) for both sexes. The results of the present study revealed that the increment in length of V. damascinus at the sites of study showed a tendency to decrease with the increase in age, after the third year of life in both sexes. The length-weight relationship of males and females were calculated and demonstrated in a straight line logarithmic formula, as follows: Log W = 1.5404 + 2.6885 log L for males r = 0.95 (P > 0.05) Log W = 1.6723 + 2.7877 log L for females r = 0.77 (P > 0.05) The values of the regression coefficient (b) indicated that the growth of both sexes of V. damascinus was allometric..

The length-weight relationship of a newly described catfish Pangasius silasi Dwivedi et. al., 2017 was studied from 88 specimens collected from the native distribution range of the species i.e. Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, Telengana, India. The total length and weight of the sampled fishes ranged from 290 to -590 mm and 240 to 2300 g respectively. Results of regression analysis showed that the regression coefficient (r²) values varied from 0.985 to 0.989. The average condition factor observed was 1.04 and 0.98 for males and females respectively. Positive allometric growth and condition factor of the species indicated the potential of the species for aquaculture. The information generated will also be useful in sustainable management and conservation of the species in natural waters.

Bilih (Mystacoleucus padangensis) is an endemic species of Lake Singkarak and has important economic value. Overfishing of Bilih fish using non-selective fishing gear has led to a decline in its population. High demand, resulting in decreased production and size of Bilih fish. This research aims to determine this endemic fish's length-weight relationship and condition factor as basic data to the effort conservation. The fish was captured with experimental gillnet mesh sized 5/8, ¾, and 1 inch in Sumani, Batu Taba, Paninggahan, and PLTA intake stations. The total length and the weight of Bilih fish ranged from 40 – 95 mm and 10 – 74 mg, respectively. The highest length and weight of Bilih were 80.3 mm, and 45.0 mg were found at the Sumani station. The growth pattern of male and female fish was a negative allometric characteristic. The length-weight relationship of male and female fish was W = 0.00137 L2.368 and W = 0.00179 L2.312, respectively. Condition factors of males and females are 1.02 and 1.004, respectively. The result of condition factor value for males is higher than the female. The water quality values are within the normal range that supports fish life.

Objectives: Deposition of body fat may differ in different age groups and gender-wise differences are also likely. The present study aims to evaluate age- and gender-wise differences in obesity parameters in healthy subjects of both genders of Varanasi. Materials and Methods: Anthropometric measurements were performed in 346 subjects reported in health check-up camp. Parameters were compared between each age group for males and females separately as well as gender-wise comparison for each age group was also performed. Regression analysis was performed to observe the relationship of age with obesity parameters and body mass index (BMI) with other parameters of obesity. Results: Both males and females had central obesity with males having higher waist circumference (WC) than females (P = 0.002) while females had higher body fat (fat %) (P = 0.000). Obesity indices of males of age group of 18–29 years were lesser as compared to other age groups. Obesity indices of female subjects were comparable in 18–39 years of age. Age group of 30–39 and 50–59 years males had higher WC than females (P = 0.002, 0.016, respectively) while fat % of females in each age group were significantly higher than males of corresponding age groups. Positive correlation of age with obesity parameters and BMI with WC and fat % was observed. Conclusion: Gender-wise differences in BMI, WC, WHtR and fat % tend to increase with age, indicative of increase in adiposity and central obesity with progressing age. Males in general have higher WC than females but lesser fat %. Gender differences in obesity may show age group specific variations. Findings of the study may be useful for identifying age specific distribution of obesity indices in males and females.

This short paper first explores the complicated relationship of Old Style vs. New Style and Literary vs. Colloquial strata in the Suzhou dialect. It then discusses four related issues: 1. age groups and sound changes; 2. the usage of retroflex initials in distinguishing Literary vs. Colloquial strata; 3. characters in the first and second divisions of the Xie group 蟹攝 that have double readings; 4. hekou 合口 characters in the third division of the Zhi group 止攝 that have double readings. Finally, it is concluded that there were two colloquial strata in the Suzhou dialect, an earlier one and a later one, with the literary stratum sandwiched in the middle.

This study was conducted to determine the abundance and the length-weight relationship of fishes of Sungai Sepang Besar (SSB), Selangor. A total of 832 individuals from 32 families comprising 50 species were collected from April 2014 to February 2015 by utilizing gill nets of various mesh size (1.25, 2.25, 2.50, 2.75, 3 and 4.5 inch) and long lines. The family Toxotidae was most abundant with a total of 474 individuals sampled comprising 2 species namely, Toxotes jaculatrix (n=288) and Toxotes chatareus (n=186). The Shannon-Weiner Index (2.37) and the Pielou Evennes (0.21) was low but the Margalef’s richness (7.29) was relatively high. Arius sagor, Photopectoralis bindus, Toxotes jaculatrix, Thryssa dussumieri, and Stolephorus indicus demonstrated positive allometric growth (b>3) while Plotosus lineatus and Toxotes chatareus showed negative allometric growth (b<3). Understanding abundance and the length-weight relationship of fish is important not only for species conservation and management, but also their habitat use.

This study aims at investigating the WhatsApp statuses as used by Jordanian people from a sociolinguistic point of view. It attempts to examine the use of the WhatsApp statuses in relation to the impact of gender and age on the topic being used. To achieve this goal, 400 statuses were collected from Jordanian males and females who are divided into two main age groups: the first one consists of participants whose age is above 30 years old, and the second group whose participants are under 30 years old. Then, the data were analyzed quantitatively and categorized based on the main following topics; religious, social, political, economic and fixed statuses. The results show that gender and age have essential impacts on the statuses being used. For example, the religious statuses are the most frequently used topic by Jordanian females whereas the social statuses are the most frequently used topic by Jordanian males. However, the political and economic statuses are the least frequent statuses used among Jordanian. Moreover, the results show that the most frequently used topic among males who are above 30 years old is the fixed statuses suggested by the mobile itself whereas the most frequently used topic among males who are under 30 years old is the social topic. On the other hand, the impact of age among females is clearly manifested in the use of the fixed statuses suggested by the mobile itself. For instance, the females who are above 30 years old use the fixed statuses more dramatic than the females who are under 30 years old. Also, the fixed statuses are the second frequently used topic by the females who are above 30 years old whereas they are the third frequently used topic by females who are under 30 years old.

The Coad barb, Capoeta coadi Alwan, Zareian and Esmaeili, 2016, is a newly described endemic fish in Beheshtabad River, Tigris basin of Iran and little is known about its life-history. Life history characteristics were examined in 426 specimens collected monthly from Beheshtabad River (central Iran) during May 2013 to May 2014. The sex ratio was 1M:0.7F. Based on scale and opercular readings, the maximum ages of the population were 8+ years for females and 7+ for males. The most frequent age groups were 3+ and 4+ in males and females, respectively. Size varied from 8.94 to 42.95 cm in fork length and weight between 10.3 and 1255.5 g. Length–weight relationship implied that the growth was negatively allometric for both sexes. The von Bertalanffy growth model was estimated as Lt =35.97[1‑e‑0.205( t+0.586)] and Lt = 49.31[1‑e ‑0.162( t‑0.208)] for males and females, respectively. The growth performance index was estimated as 5.58 and 5.97 for males and females, respectively, indicating a faster growth rate for females.

The large scale barb, Capoeta aculeata is a little known species native to Iran. Its age and growth were studied in 377 specimens collected monthly from the Gizehrud River in Lorestan Province (Tigris basin) during May 2014–May 2015. Sex ratio was 1M:2.1F. The maximum age of both female and male specimens was 6+ years. The most common age group of both male and female fish was 4+. The fork length ranged from 12.2 to 20.8 cm (17.4 ± 1.2SD) and weight from 32 to 188 g (93.6 ± 21.8SD). The estimated length-weight relationship of male specimens was W = 0.0161FL3.012, (r2 = 0.82) and that of female specimens W = 0.0248FL2.87, (r2 = 0.79). This relationship showed that growth of both Capoeta aculeata sexes was isometric. The estimated von Bertalanffy growth model for males was Lt= 20.9[1-e-0.57(t+0.2)] and for females Lt = 20.3[1-e-0.56(t-0.8)]. The growth performance index was estimated at 5.4 and 5.5 for males and females, respectively, indicating a similar growth rate for both sexes.

The length-weight relationship and variation of condition factor in relation to the total length (TL) of Trachurus trachurus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Trachurus mediterraneus (Steindachner, 1868) were studied. Samples were collected in the eastern Adriatic Sea using bottom-trawl during 2008 and 2009. The b values for males, females and total sample showed that the growth of T. trachurus was isometric, i.e. equal in length and weight. The growth of the males and females of T. mediterraneus was positively allometric while the total sample (males, female and immature) showed isometric growth. The condition factor was calculated indicating the smallest values in immature specimens. The highest values of condition factor for males and females of both species were observed in the range of TL from 16 to 19 cm and 31 to 33 cm, respectively.
